Former Manchester United striker linked to Chelsea move
Villarreal striker offered to Stamford Bridge club
Chelsea have been linked to Villarreal forward Giuseppe Rossi as the player's agent bids to win his client a lucrative pay day.
The American born forward has been in prolific form this season scoring nine times in the league already this season for the Yellow Submarines as they sit in third place in the La Liga table. While negotiations with the Spanish club are underway regarding a new contract, Rossi's agent has confirmed that his client would be interested in trying his luck at one of Europe's big clubs and has included Chelsea amongst a list of teams that he would consider joining.
“We are currently discussing renewing the player’s contract.” Federico Pastorello told Sport.co.uk.
“He is happy to stay there, but he is willing to wait for a big offer from a top club. He will only leave for a bigger club than Villarreal, and he would like a call from a Barcelona, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, or Chelsea. If not, he is happy and he will extend his contract.”
Rossi spent his formative years of his professional career at Manchester United and the Red Devils retain first option on the player after Sir Alex Ferguson insisted on the clause when he moved to Spain in 2007. However, with Dimitar Berbatov and Wayne Rooney as their senior strikers and Javier Hernandez, Federico Macheda together with on-loan forwards Danny Welbeck and Mame Biram Diouf all showing signs of a promising future, it is likely that they will not take up the option.
