Tevez outshining Rooney? He has ONE more goal than Rooney, and I don't think Rooney has played many minutes more than Tevez this season, considering the fact that Rooney has been away almost ten weeks because of injuries. And if you look at the assist-rate of Rooney as well you will see his statistical contribution to the team. However, much of the work he does doesn't show up in the statistics. Tireless runs, crosses that opens up the play and intelligent runs that gives room for the likes of Tevez and Ronaldo. From time to time he has some Scholes-esque passes as well, so in my opinion he is very close to being a complete player. As soon as he shows more composure in front of goal, he will be right up there with the best.
Andy Cole was always talked of as a prolific scorer, class finisher etc, yet my recollection is of someone who squandered chances wholesale. People remember those that went in, not the misses.

Andy Cole was prolific at Newcastle. And at Man Utd he played well overall. There were some horrendous misses but some truly brilliant goals in there - overhead kicks, chipped goals, clever finishes.
Andy Cole unlike rooney had good movement that put him in and clever finishes that of a striker. Rooney is poor here with little composure or variation with his finishing.

The stats bear this out -Cole has proven himself season after season. Plus Cole has scored more goals in open play than Shearer!

Rooney is the heart of united and the leader on the pitch. Without him playing this season we have inevitably failed to win and we have lost a good few games. Everything that United do on the pitch flows through Rooney.
His finishing isn't that bad. He did have a bad run of it but now he is finding the target and the keepers are just pulling out world class threads. Look at Tevez's miss yesterday. I didn't see you starting a stupid thread about that.

Beautiful chip. Have to say it's been a disappointing season for Wayne in terms of finishing. Hasn't scored inventive goals like that one all that much, if at all. If Ronaldo hadn't been scoring so many, we'd all be concerned about our goals drying up, and we'd all be more concerned about Rooney's finishing. However I suspect that if Ronaldo hadn't been scoring so often, Rooney would picked up a good deal of the slack.
I'm hoping he'll be a bit more prolific next year. He's contributed a great deal to our success thus far this season, but he hasn't exactly been clinical in front of goal.

But even the most red-tinted fan has to admit his finishing is god-awful. With the amount of chances that he gets game after game it boggles the mind how he hasn't scored more this season. As for Rooney I think his finishing needs to be more emphatic again. Placing the ball with weaker shots isnt quite working at the moment. He needs to go back to doing what he does best. Blast it past the keeper before he can save it.
