Rooney's finishing...

Make no mistake about it, I absolutely love Rooney, infact is probably my fav player now. But I think he needs to work a whole load more on his finishing - what surprises me is that he was amazing for Everton and England...and even as soon as he joined us (ala his Champs League debut goals). It's not a matter of developing his finishing as he has proved he already has it, I think he just needs to concentrate on it more to get it back....

His finishing is becoming predictable and inaccurate. We just cant keep on wasting so many chances in front of goal.

He needs to be more agressive in the final third.

There was nothing wrong with his bloody finishing today.
The one on one was the only one where you could complain, and even that was a cracking save.

Rooney's overall finishing is very bad this season, but this time around it was just a phenomenal save by Friedel. I can't think of too many goalkeepers who would have saved that shot. At least he didn't hit the keeper this time around.

Didn't think there was anything wrong with his shooting today. Got Friedel to pull a fantastic save when there was a defender right on top of him, couldn't have asked for more in the circumstances. Worked his socks off and created chances for others as per usual.

I think he needs to actually calm down in the final third....when he joined he was an unknown quantity and a youngster that had burst on the scene so didn't have much pressure on him (as such). Now though he has soo much more responsibility and I think he tries maybe a little too hard...

He's not focused sometimes... Hard working on trainings is the only solution - there's no other way, really.

Goals will come in time.

He needs to improve his finishing in general but i think it was more Friedels brilliance today.

all bullshit aside I love rooney but his finishing hasn't be well this year.

Poor finishing, along with Tevez. It's been the story so far for them though, so it's no suprise anymore. Ronaldo is probably better then them both combined.

His finishing is costing us. He is having a rather poor season. His control seems to have worsen, and his finishing is just really poor in general nowadays. Needs to sort it out. He used to blast the ball to the roof of the net, now he just slides it, and gives the keeper a chance to save it, he really should be lethal at that area by now, I wonder where it went wrong.

He should be that man that we hope the chances fall for. He should be a decider of games, he hasnt done that enough, he had his chances.

And he is fecking mental at times. Mad.

The United and England staff is working on it. Torres used to have the same problem until Ian Rush told him to use his speed and go past the goalie and then put it in the net. That worked wonders and now he's scoring for fun.

Youre right. Stating that I forgot the last time Rooney had tried anything different from trying to score past the keeper with a low shot. Its becoming predictable.

Both Tevez and Rooney have been poor at times with their finishing and really need to work on that!

Rooney really needs to control his temper

Never thought of him as a prolific Goalscorer. So i can't say i'm surprised.

We often see how Rooney runs clear with the goalie, only to have a weak and low shot cleared by the keeper. He needs to smack it into the roof of the net ffs!

I personally can't see him improving his finshing for atleast another 3-4 years.

Its quite easy to see he does not have that natural ability of picking the edge of the net, funnily enough his long rangers and powershots used to be great but he hardly tries them anymore.

my point exactly

yep, just like he used to for England/us just as he joined

like this basically

His problem is basically that he runs straight at the keeper and shoots low shots... he needs to take a step to the side to score. If he doesn't, he'll keep hitting it straight at the keeper.

His ONE proper shot today was the right idea but didnt have the power, it wasnt an awsome save or anything. he couldve mabey taken it a bit closer, but either way he should be giving the keepers no chance with alot of these chances. hes a £30m striker!

In the next few games chances are going to be few and far between!

If he continues to be so wasteful with his opportunities we could end up with nothing!

There's just no crispness to it at the moment. It's like he doesn't really believe its going to hit the back of the net. He used to hit them clinically - like the volley against Newcastle. And he's had a few in recent months that he's taken well. But the vast majority have been weak efforts compared to what we've come to expect from him in the past.

Before his injury, he was tucking them away brilliantly though.

He starts to really piss me off.
So much great work, but he really destroys everything with that feckin finishes.

I lost count of how many 1-on-1 he's missed in the last 3 matches, let alone the whole season. He's great everywhere else but when it comes to finishing, especially 1 on 1, he just can't seem to score. Why?

agreeed, butu the angles are key, he aint realy creating them much, often to striaght, if he approaches from an angle he can chose a variety of things, blast it, rounfd the keeper or place it low. He is thinking to much and needs to focus on the goal rather than the keeper. It wil come im sure of it though, once he has to confidence

tbf, that was a brilliant save from Friedel, not much Rooney could do about that save. Having said that, I think Wazza will score some huge goals in the next few games, starting at Nou Camp
