Rooneygate Revisited - Would SAF Still Sell Him?

While I agree Beckham was a bit of a headache and fergie was happy to let him go and he was happy to go I don't think any thought of Ronaldo needing game time was a factor in the deal, The Beckham deal was sanctioned before we signed Ronnie and my understanding is that we would probably preferred to sign him at a later date but a lot of other clubs was sniffing round, Ronaldo actually played a lot more than fergie would have wanted in the 2003/4 season due to the fact Solskjaer picked up a serious injury as he is the one who would have directly replaced Beckham as our winger that season.

But the 2 situations are very different
.

That's actually what I'm trying to say. One way or another Beckham was very much expendable. And Ruud's attitude levels had slumped. Rooney is one of the least expendable players in our squad (everyone is) and his attitude has improved ten folds since the saga.

I don't think there is a chance Rooney will be leaving. Ronaldo left because he pushed to leave for a good 3 years, Beckham left because he was causing too much attention off the pitch and his relationship with Fergie reached rock bottom, but Rooney appears to want to stay, and Fergie appears very happy with him, and they appear to get on fine these days

Yeh I know what you was saying and I totally agree we have no replacement for him, I think Solskjaer was a decent replacement for Becks at the time Ronaldo they possibly had in mind for a long term option I really can't think of a player out there that can do what Rooney does for us when he is at the top of his game.

Now that transfer season is upon us I'm going to go ahead and bump this.

I still think there is an outside chance that SAF may not have forgiven Rooney for his actions 6 months ago, and may have just been using the new contract as a method of increasing his value on the transfer market.

Considering how we are constantly linked with the likes of sneijder who play essentially the same role as Rooney now does. is it really that unfathomable - give. sAFs track record of dealing with players who have spoken against him - that Rooney could go the same way as beckham, ruud and others?

I don't think there is any chance of Fergie off-loading Rooney out of pettiness - the player has knuckled down and focussed on his role in the team admirably. Comparing it to Beckham is totally off the mark. He repeatedly defied Ferguson's directive to stop traipsing around after the silly bint in pursuit of a career and it showed in his play over more than two seasons. Rooney merely had an ill-advised brainfart and came to his senses.

Rooney is irreplaceable, there's not a striker in the world who compares to him AND is available.

The idea of replacing Rooney with Sneijder is one of the daftest things I've ever heard to be honest. And Rooney hasn't spoken against SAF, for heaven's sake, where does this idea come from?

to sell rooney would be ridiculous - there is no chance of it happening

why on earth would we sell our best player?

at the same time - had rooney played the entire season like he started it and we hadn't done so well I think the thought would have crossed fergie's mind

We are not a selling club....period.

I would have said this was a possibility before the season ended. However, now that we know we are going to lose a significant part of our English contigent in Scholes, Hargreaves, Gary Neville, and maybe Brown, I don't think Fergie would allow him to go.

This is a good point.

Rooney held the club to ransom to get certain answers from the Glazers and although it was a risk.. It was for the better of the club at the end of the day..

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Rooney held the club to Ransom for a better contract. Simple as.

I can not see Rooney being sold in the short term, maybe in 3 or 4 years, as at the moment, he is the right player for us, offers us what no one else can in his position, and seems to have sorted his attitude out.

Lets just hope for a new season without any stupid mistakes.....

What he said.

All the 'if a big bid came in we'd sell him' stuff is tripe, the only reason Madrid's astronomical bid for Ronaldo was accepted was because he wanted to leave. Rooney doesn't and is a key player therefore he will not leave as long as SAF wants him around.

I don't think we will sell Rooney.. Like I said back then this was planned.. Rooney held the club to ransom to get certain answers from the Glazers and although it was a risk.. It was for the better of the club at the end of the day..

Utter Bollocks , him and his agent , mainly agent wanted a bigger contact.
He is going nowhere.

Yep! With all the revenue he was losing from being dropped by sponsors, United had to make up for it. We did and he came good. Proving that he is worth (at least in the current climate of football salaries) the pay package.

That is your respective opinions & like you, I too am entitled to an opinion.. And just because I am not a Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime that believes everything that is spouted in the Media it doesn't mean I am wrong.. There is no way to prove it either ways..

He is Fergie's most important player so there's no risk of seeing him go. Not until Fergie retires I reckon.

The reason he actually did it was because he'd already booked the holiday to Dubai and they wouldn't let him book a few weeks off work to go.

What do you mean that's ridiculous? Well I'm entitled to my opinion. You can't prove that I'm wrong.

You are certainly entitled to an opinion, and it is as valid as mine, no matter how naive it is......Wayne cares about Wayne In my opinion, nothing else.

Rooney stated on twitter the other day, in reply to people saying he was leaving, (something to the effect of)

"Stop wasting your time. I will be staying at MUFC as long as I am wanted there"

Veiled way of saying Fergie wants rid! ZOMG!!!

whats the point of this daft thread, if Fergie wanted to sell him, he won't have try so hard to keep him when he threaten to leave in the first place?

He is our most important and best player at the club, like it or not, selling him would be a disaster.
