I do think he isn't going to go off to China anyway.
His family are so settled in the nw i can't see him rvrn moving to the usa, let alone china. Pipe dream that i think.

that was a disgraceIf he's not in shape and off the pace then absolutely yes.
Yes Rooneys going to agree to that.Woody's biggest challange this summer will be to solve the Rooney issue. It isn't going to be easy.
One solution could be to extend his contract another ten years and let him be the clubs ambassador. The benefit by doing this is that the club can pay him his £30m over ten years instead of everything up front. (Or in two years) If Wayne wants to play a couple of seasons semwhere else the club can reduce the total outlay with 1/10 of the sum each year his is not connected to United.
The down side if this is Rooney's fast decline, both on and off thee pitch. Playing another season can easily ruins his legend status at this club. Media and supporters have a tendency to forget history and only remember what's in front of them.
The best solution for the club would be if he decided to continue to play somewhere else and accepted a one time pay off in the region of 50% of his total salary demands. But I think his agent are to greedy and only thinks short term, probably egotistical because this will be there last pay check involving Wazza.
Well said. If we were keeping players on the playing books out of sentimentality and what they did in the past, Charlton would still be No 9.I am loyal to MUFC, first.
The players will come and go, but the club will remain.
I am a huge fan of RvN. For me, he is the best striker who has played for us, in my lifetime. But would I want him back at our club? No way!
In the same way, I don't want Rooney taking up any more space on our bench.
The testimonial when he was struggling against retired defenders in their 40s, put Rooney's current ability in perspective.
It's not about supporting a legend, it's about supporting our club and wanting what's best for it.
What is a disgrace is not being able to stay off the pies and booze for a couple of seasons so there is at least a small chance he can hold up his end of the contract and be a fit, professional rather than blowing out of his arse after playing ten minutes against retired players, what is a disgrace is expecting the club to honour their end of the deal and fork out 30 million quid wholst not being able to provide the services that that money is for.that was a disgrace
just pay the man, buy the contract out and behave with a bit of class and dignity
imagine treating our top scorer and a club legend like that
I'm no defender of Rooney trust me.... it was a disgrace and an embarrassment the way Bastian was treated last yearWhat is a disgrace is not being able to stay off the pies and booze for a couple of seasons so there is at least a small chance he can hold up his end of the contract and be a fit, professional rather than blowing out of his arse after playing ten minutes against retired players, what is a disgrace is expecting the club to honour their end of the deal and fork out 30 million quid wholst not being able to provide the services that that money is for.
And as we have a contract with him we can do what we like with him, so we should absolutely give him the Bastian treatment.I'm no defender of Rooney trust me.... it was a disgrace and an embarrassment the way Bastian was treated last year
regardless of how many pies Rooney eats we, as a club, made a contract with him. We should act with a bit of class

Honestly, I think clubs might start putting that caveat in contracts in the future after seeing a decline like Rooney's. And to be honest i'm sure our lawyers could figure a way to void the contract on the basis that his fitness standards are not up to scratch. Also find it hard to believe player contracts dont have some kind of fitness covenants built into them. Surely any club and any player contract would routinely have clauses that said if a player let himself go physically, and wasnt able to deliver to the standard expected of a PL player for reasons other than injury or recovery from injury, that would be a breach of contract? I dont know anything about this and you would have thought it would have been spoken about if such clauses existed, but it seems madness that so much money could be put at risk, in such a long term contract, without such basic protections.
A contract is two parties agreeing to terms. At the beginning of the season I knew, like everyone did, that Rooney needed to lose weight if he wanted to compete, honestly the same goes for Shaw. But Rooney didn't want to, he didn't prioritize it. If he was lighter he could have been dangerous behind Zlatan or Rashford, but he knew he wasn't fit and you could tell by the amount of times he gave the ball away. It's not that he forgot how to pass, it's more so he physically isn't in shape and that effects his mentality as well. It's selfish to be paid that much money and not prioritize your fitness for the club. While he can still walk he should go to China and cash in, because he won't be able to play for much longer and once that window is closed it will never open again.
I would definitely have them looking into it.Honestly, I think clubs might start putting that caveat in contracts in the future after seeing a decline like Rooney's. a result of both Moyes and Woodward being desperateI still cant bring myself to believe we gave Rooney an option on the final year of his contract that he could take unilaterally, without the club having to agree to trigger the option. Even taking into account our desperation when we gave him that contract, I cant believe we offered that. Pretty sure both parties would have to agree.

Its just a bit unclear because there are conflicting reports, but I believe the original release put out by the club at the time the contract was announced said 2019 pure and simple. More recent press reports have discussed an option but it may be they have the wrong information. Either way I think the option, if it exists, and whoever owned it, would relate to 2018-19 season. There is no suggestion the option would extend the contract beyond 2019.I haven't read this thread, avoided it for many reasons but what is this exactly? Where did this come from, when he signed contract club announced the deal is till 2019, so where is this 1 year extension thing coming from?
I disagree with the idea of treating Rooney like that - like it or not, Rooney was an integral part of our club during one of its most successful periods, like it or not he is our club captain, a club legend and our top scorer of all time.....

all this is besides the point for me as we should as a club conduct ourselves with a bit of dignity
Moyes and Woodward made the mistake of getting into bed with Rooney with that long contract - they agreed to pay him the huge salary
Rooney isn't stupid, he knows he isn't part of Jose's plans and him still being at the club has more to do with other clubs not being interested - is putting him in the reserves supposed to make him more attractive to other clubs?
Rooney this year sat on the bench and took his demotion well - he'd do the same in the reserves I think and all we'd achieve would be making the club look petty and classless like we did with Bastian
I think we will get some interest late in the window but if we don't then the club should simply cut a deal with him rather than let Rooney hover in the background
the way we treated Valdes convinced Pedro not to sign and the way we treated Bastian was embarrassing and so Mourinho.... I heard the same nonsense on here from defenders of Jose in his treatment of Shaw, Mhiki and Martial - when did publicly attacking any team member ever motivate anyone? people suggesting we bully a club legend (like it or not) like Rooney so he might go to China is laughable
each to their own but maybe I just have higher expectations of how a club like Manchester United should conduct themselves - I prefer class and dignity myself
It really isn't. There's 0 supporting evidence for Rooney being one of the best midfielders in the prem and plenty of arguments to show the opposite. It's nailed on that this move will reinvigorate Rooney , He will have a blinder of a season for Everton & surprise surprise , he will look one of the best midfielders in the prem.

Footballers are supposed to be professionals and that means staying in shape and fit at all times throughout their contracts. Most footballers know that if they don't then their careers are over, and they would understand why.Yeah, like that's going to make us look like a great team to come and play for. Would you want to work at a place where they treat legends of the game like that ? It doesn't bode well for mere mortals does it ?

Will most likely slip from a starter to squad player to back up in a few months at the club. A pity, everton were looking like they'd really step on this season. Unless they manage to convince Rooney to greatly reduce his wage demands, this could be unfortunate for them.
