Rooney Rumour

Personally, I think it is a load of rubbish, but thought I would post it up to see if anyone else has heard anything flying around.

A lad I know, who is City, was piping up today about Rooney and he brought up that he "is definitely gone in the summer to the highest bidder".

Obviously I questioned him about it, and he said the usual that it is from "a very reliable source" and "it is a done deal".

Now whilst the lad is a City fan, he does usually get some insider bit and pieces as he actually works for Man City, so putting two and two together, I think he is angling that he will be off to City.

I personally can't see him going anywhere, unless Fergie wants him to, and I guess that last part is the key question. Further to that, whilst we have sold players after having them sign contracts, we seem to steer well clear of selling to our rivals.

I know this thread is going to get me some flack, but I am not a transfer muppet and simply sharing what I have been told. I know there are a few in the know people around the site, so hopefully they can shed some light onto this.

I guess you haven't seen the warning sign in the sticky thread from Sultan.

To be honest, I've heard similar:

A girl I know was a model/extra for the MUTV Hong Kong ad which was shot about 2 weeks ago, and from her, it seemed it was common knowledge because Rooney was due to appear in the ad, along with Berbs, Valencia, Scholes and Evra but wasn't because he was very likely not going to be at the club when the ad campaign for MUTV HK is due to start its run.

Everyone involved with United knows it apparently, even the other extras in the ad knew...

Oh you were serious?! Sorry, I honestly thought you were taking the piss.

As if tv advert extras would ever be privy to the inner dealings at Old Trafford! Just think about it for a minute!

The big news from that would mean Scholes is signing an extension.

He's definately not going to City - if he does leave it'll be to escape the English media limelight and he would therefore head off for Spain/Italy. I still think it is incredibly unlikely he would leave at all tbh.

She wouldn't lie mate, she doesn't even like football.

Like I said, it was pretty much common knowledge for everyone on the set, I don't think its beyond the realms of possibility that it actually is.

Either way, I'm not really fussed. If he goes, we get a quality replacement. If he stays, we'll still have our World Class player on our books...

Hopefully it's not true, I don't fancy the club having the hassle of trying to buy another top class striker this summer.

Here's the thing with that; He signed a new deal in, what, October? Presuming the ad wasn't planned more than 7 or eight months in advance then it's likely he would have been slated to appear in the ad since signing his deal. In the last couple of months he's started to look more like himself so I doubt we'd decide to sell him then. So that really just leaves a couple of months of a window in which we decided to sell him and and the ad was planned. I suspect that isn't the case. If there was any doubt they would never have allowed it to get to the stage where extras on an ad shoot knew what the world's press and the club's fans don't.

As if we'd - if we were going to sell him at all - sell him to fecking City.

We wouldn't even sell Heinze to 'pool we're not going to sell one of our best players to fecking City.

If Wayne really wanted to leave:

(a) He wouldn't sign an extended deal because it would strengthen the club's hand too much. We'd be able to sit in and demand ridiculous money which would likely scupper a potential deal.

(b) He wouldn't have come out and said everything he did about regretting his actions, wanting to remain here and generally committing himself to the cause. He would have kept his mouth shut.

I call bollocks.

Plying devils advocate for a moment......this would be true.......providing Rooney is the one asking for a move. However if he wants to stay or go doesnt matter a flying feck if SAF decides he has had enough of him.

Heard the same rumor your city fan did when I stuck my ear to a seashell at the beach, guess there is something in it.

I like the fact the thread has gotten to the stage where people are seriously discussing how the rumour may or may not be true.

Internet, April 2011.

To be honest mate, I think the idea of extras for a tv advert knowing whether United are planning to sell Wayne Rooney is very much beyond the realms of possibility.

It's easily possible. I've heard similar myself.

My parent's deal in outside catering and often put on the silver service events in some of the suites at Old Trafford. Rooney's favourite dish is toad in the hole and he's the only one that has it. We've been told that as of next year we won't need to renew our order with the Yorkshire pudding suppliers as they will no longer be needed.

Read into that what you will.

Shoot me down if you want, i'm just passing on what i've heard.

I suppose the more logical conclusion is someone in terms of nutrition at United saying to Rooney 'If you must eat that fecking shit at least let one of our nutritionists prepare a more healthy version'.

City fans are the worst for "being in the know"

Bluemoon during the summer is chock full of ITK's, my dad knows this etc etc.

Absolutely nothing in it, just a wild guess

Who cares, if he moves on now the silly little scouser has put us in the driving seat so we can just ask for silly money!

If City want to give us £100m then cool.

But, I very much doubt this is true.

My grandma's a whore and she's moving to Madrid in August. Just sayin'.

On who, though?

Nothing against you personally, but I don't understand the thinking behind people who say they'd happily accept 'stupid money' for our star players. People did it with Evra recently and I didn't get it then. I remember my old man saying for £80m he'd drive Ronaldo to Madrid himself, but I had to ask him why and I never got a decent answer from him.

We've got one of the best strikers in the game on our books, and our objective as a club is to win games and trophies, which piles of money can't do. We need the best players possible, and unless there's a better option out there who we would definitely bring in for the money then why would we want to sell? And if there is a better option for the same or less money, why are the club buying Rooney not going after him?

This modern idea of 'I'd take £100m for him' seems to be borne from some kind of FM mentality (again, I'm not attacking you here, sorry), and as often as I see it in the transfer forum I can never wrap my head around it.

Im certainly not a transfer muppet or anything like that but after what happened my opinion on Rooney has completely changed.

Yes he is a world class footballer but the way he treated the club and the fans (even if it is just to get a better deal) makes him a world class cnut. I wont ever boo him (or anyone) in a Utd shirt but I cannot look at him in the same way.

I would trust Ferguson to invest the money if it came down to it, the players are out there. Who had heard of Hernandez a year ago? Great players come and go.

Nobody is bigger than this great club, which Wayne completely disrespected.

Agree with Nick. I don't understand the need to drive players out if crazy amounts are bid. Every time we have a crazy offer for a star player we'll sell him? Sell Nani next year? Vidic the year after?

If we still had one of Ronaldo/Tevez we'd have probably won number 19 last year and might have wrapped up the league by now. Losing Ronaldo, Tevez and Rooney in 3 years will look weak. And what guarantee is there that the "100m" for Rooney would be reinvested in the squad anyway? I rather keep our players instead of accepting crazy money for them. I wouldn't sell Wayne Rooney for 150m either. And why should we? He'll probably go on to be our highest goal scorer ever imo.

All that is fine but the good of Manchester United is the most important thing and selling Rooney would definitely not be in the best interests of United.

You can't replace a player like Rooney.

People said the same thing about Stam, Cantona and Beckham.

We did.

So you don't mind us losing Rooney, Tevez and Ronaldo in the space of 3 years? And what guarantee is there that we would even use the money we get? Ronaldo...80m...
