Rooney Charged: Faces Two Match Ban for cursing | Appeal lost

It's saddening that this thread has reached 48 pages (not the Caf's fault). I remember when I first saw it - Doevle just wanting to know what was said, some bants, then I thought it would end.

:(

That copper is either worryingly incompetent, or a mega attention-whore, or quite possibly a combination of the two.

Arrested for swearing on a night out? :wenger:, They might as well arrest half of 18-30 year olds on Friday nights.

The poor kids. Can't imagine what effect Rooney's abuse must have had on them.

Between the withering put-down of the busy-body plod, the summary termination of Mason's credibility and and the double-meanign swipe at the FA, I think that is popssibly the greated interview / conference I've ever read.

Genius.

Do the FA now have a list of words that you mustn't use?
How about........
Vagina
Cock
Pussy
Twat etc etc

I do believe now that this list has to be sent to every player..............or risk arrest by officer Dibble.

Am very glad to hear we've at least commented about this in a very strong manner and not just taken it on the chin.

However, words will be meaningless unless we now follow up every Mason game where a player is seen swearing and ask why the player wasn't sent off or at least why the FA didn't look into it.

I'm sure Fergie's "team behind the scenes" will be keeping a very close eye on Mason's future games....and the games of all the other ref's too.

Aren't the Fa currently undergoing a government review?

Fergie intentionally using it to put pressure on them?
Hmm...interesting point that.

I've just watched Ian Watmore giving evidence at the football governance select committee, and he mentioned that David Gill had argued, and that he broadly agreed, that disciplinary decisions (deciding on punishments, etc) should be taken away from the FA, altogether, and that the responsibility should instead lie with a specific body that is unquestionable in terms of its independence and authority.

Surprisingly, he also appeared to suggest that the management of the laws of the game is not currently under the jurisdiction of the FA, which I took to mean that a seperate regulatory body actually creates and manages the laws in the first place. In both David Gill and Ian Watmore's opinion the current arrangement is exactly the wrong way around, i.e. the FA should manage the laws, but a seperate, wholly independent body should be in charge of the actual disciplinary process.

Watmore then went on to say that he felt that he couldn't make the necessary change because of the current structure of the FA board, which contains three representatives from the Premier League and two from the Football League. In other words, if the management of the laws of the game was currently brought back inside the FA it would create a conflict of interest, because certain board members would be inclined to argue for laws which may be in the interests of the clubs, but not in the interests of either the FA or the game as a whole.

If anyone gets a chance to see Watmore giving evidence I would highly recommend it. He actually confirmed many of the things, as a former, though short lived chief executive of the FA, that have long been suspected about how its current structure is prohibitive in terms of change and progress, and he also argued that it will never be restructured unless it is forced to by external pressure.

So, tomorrow, we need to watch all players to ensure that they aren't swearing. Especially City. Then we can email the FA about it being offensive to our sensibilities and they'll ban them all, right?

Song for tomorrow and Wembley. Imagine OT swearing for a good portion of 90 minutes. No real chants. Just a long string of swear words.

Apologies if this has been posted, but this really wound me up.

My 11-year-old absolutely loves football and loves playing the computer game FIFA 11 – the one with Wayne Rooney on the front of the box.

I asked him yesterday what he thought of Wayne’s swearing outburst into a Sky camera lens during the live game against West Ham and, completely unprompted, he said: “He’s got a bad mouth and he shouldn’t be the face of Fifa any more. He’s not a good role model for kids.”

It’s a relief that he’s got that attitude and doesn’t copy what he sees. My youngest is eight and neither of them use language like that.

They idolise Frank Lampard and John Terry and if either of them acted like that, they wouldn’t respect them.

Fiona Phillips writing for the Mirror. Says her son doesn't respect Rooney for swearing. but respects role models like John Terry who has done nothing wrong except cheat on his team mate's girlfriend.

So it's day 6 now since the event and Sky Sports news continue to show the clip of Rooney (albeit the 'feck' bits cut) shouting into the camera. Sky have shown the clip every day since it happened.

Why?

Who the feck is Fiona Philips? I dont normally bite for these things but JT as a role model for her kids? FFS.

But please do not pretend Rooney is a better role model. He fecks grannys and cheated on his pregnant GF with hookers.

As people they are both cnuts of the higest order.

Becuase it is still in the news. Because we appealed the decision. Because it may have a bearing tomorrow and next weekend.

To be honest, while this could lose us the match in the FA cup, it might be just what we need to create a proper siege mentality and storm everything else. I mean, look how Rooney has played since this happened. Best game in years IMO.

Can't believe the media shitstorm this has created. Smacks a bit of Andy Gray and Keyes though. What happened was actually pretty minor, but it happened, and since everyone dislikes Rooney/Man United, a media witch hunt begins. You'd think a football fan has never sworn before. Really silly situation.

I don't think there's anyone who watches SSN that hasn't seen it by now. It's all a game, Sky just trying to milk the story as much as they can. Who else can they wheel out to make a comment on it now? This has got to be the most overblown story of the season.

Not that I'm denying that Rooney's a twat, but what?

She was 48. If she had been 60, but merely a mother, would that have made it better?

Nothing to do with the fact that she's a Chelsea supporter and that article was written after the 1-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge, she's a well respected journalist after all.

Pens and paper at the ready.

Each and every player who visibly is caught swearing this weekend, on MOTD or Sky should be reported to the FA

I think every player caught swearing will give the FA another question to answer and the club should make sure that it is asked. They've mad a rod for their own back on this one the FA, they really have. Every week now they'll have to deal with why they didn't ban a player for swearing. They can't point to exceptional circumstance in Rooney's case as the rule he apparently broken doesn't accommodate any exceptional circumstance. There isn't a 'PS. this only applies when done directly into camera' clause on it. So it's going to be a big headache for the FA now. There's little doubt about that.

Completely disagree.

The reality is they can do whatever they like, nobody knows who they are and they're not accountable to anyone.
