Ronaldinho Close To United

They're both cuptied and I can't see us spending big money on a winter transfer who can't play in the CL. If its true that Ronaldinhio is leaving PSG then it will probably be to Italy and then we'll buy Cisse....but not until the summer.

Then the player can either tone it down(Becks) or carry on regardless(Yorke). You can see how they have both fared.</strong><hr></blockquote>

I don't criticize him for that (otherwise I wouldn't like Barthez , who likes to hit the town too). It's just a fact that could leave to problems with Ferguson if he exagerates. We know that ultimately Yorke had to leave. In fact, I like Ronaldinho very much, he's a greatly talented player and a nice person. But who would he relace on the pitch ? Another star on the bench ? If I had the choice, I'd rather go for Cisse.

BTw Ronaldinho wasn't at training yesterday (the first day after the truce). He's still in Brazil. His excuse is that he has a dental problem but PSG bosses don't believe him. A clash ?

we could buy a striker in Jan and he would half a season to bed in and preseason next year, that way we would have better chance of winning the premiership this year, as we would have a proper alternative (foil) to Ruud.

and having a settled team next year.

I'm inclined to believe him.

Some of you still dont get it. What is our biggest weakness this season?

Our failure to score goals. Not to create chances.

Ruud makes a MASSIVE impact on our team, not just cos of his goals, but in our overall dangerous-ness as a team. This is cos he is a damn good centre forward, he holds the ball up, receives the ball, gives us something to aim for.

Our biggest weakness is when he isnt in the team, it not only takes away his goalscoring, but it takes away his overall play. He does things no one else in our team can do.

So we buy Ronaldinho to play behind Ruud, this is overkill. Paying £20mill to solve a problem that ISNT our weakness. Sometimes i think some of you are blind.

What happens when Ruud is injured? YOU KNOW we cant rely on him all season. No matter who plays behind him, Scholes, Giggs or Ronny, we cant rely on one man all year, injuries or not, one man cant score all the time.

We need to reduce this reliance on Ruud or we lose. Simple as that. To suceed with just Ruud would need close to awesome performances from Forlan and co.

Ronaldinho has not been coming back to training after X mas break...

I've got a feeling if we do buy a striker when the window opens, it won't be a long term investment. I've got a feeling we'll go for an experienced forward, maybe even on a loan deal. I think Fergie has someone in mind in the summer but can't get who he wants right now.

I'd be prepared for us signing someone that probably won't be all that popular with the fans. ie. another Andy Goram.

Billy Dodds has just signed for Dundee Utd. He´d have fit your bill, 77.

Maybe Andy Goram wasn't the best analogy then...
;)

Far be it from me to post rumours... but... a striker is coming and he's not going to set pulses racing.....

But he's not as physical. That's my one and only worry about Ronaldinho, otherwise I think he would be (besides Henry himself) the best striker we could get. He has incredible skills, can create something out of nothing, and has the potential to be a great, but he might not be able to cope with the physical nature of the english game.

Somebody said something about our problem was scoring goals, rather than creativity in setting them up. But Ronaldinho is creative in a completely different way than our other play-makers like Veron, Beckham, Keano and Scholes. Veron and Becks are ball players who put others through holes with great vision, while Keano and Scholes are more power players who push through would-be tackles and get on the end of passes.

Ronaldinho is more like Giggs was a few years ago, he is a more individually brilliant player and that is often what is needed when teams sit back and defend. They're able to cut out the crosses and long balls from Seba and Becks, they make sure they mark Scholes and Keano out of the game, but there was nothing they could do to stop a moment of brilliance from Giggsy a few years ago, and there is nothing they can do to stop Ronaldinho now.

At the end of the day, I think it depends on what system SAF wants to play with. If he wants to go with 4-4-2, then I'd go for Cisse. But if he wants a 4-4-1-1 then Ronaldinho would be the man.

after reading this pretty good thread and the comments enclosed, in particular from the likes of Elfie, i think i'm changing my mind about ronaldinho. i dont want another yorke character, please no.
we're talking about ronny as if we would be getting the best of him, but how many times a year would he be away brushing his teeth in a brazialian whorehouse? how many games would he miss and how much would fergie want to wring his neck?
has saf met ronaldinho or done any research on his chracter of course he must have, this is ferguson, right? i dont hear a great deal coming from ot about him, saf has mentioned cisse a couple of times.
how much of the best of ronaldinho would we see in cold (but blessed) manchester? how much would we be gasping at his international antics on football focus whilst he comes home a week later and shows up knackered for a big game?
i dont know guys and gals, and i dont know about that price tag either Nistelrooy10 - 10-12 mil in a bidding war with the eyeties? i would think psg would want to keep us bidding upwards, the problems they have.
he's a wonderful player, but is all i'm saying maybe not for us.
:(

I doubt he's like Yorke. He's a much more gifted footballer, though I would be a bit concerned about the party boy mentality.

According to a story in the Sun during World Cup time, he is also more gifted in bed ;)

I watched United v Arse (6-1) on MUTV lately (well, the Israeli version of). The idea of a more gifted footballer than Yorke is Pele or Maradona. When Yorke wanted to, he was the best striker in Europe.

CISSE is my 1st choice he more powerful and faster than Henry and a few years younger.

Auxerre have other strikers good enough for the french league and EUFA cup, so they could sell.

Ronaldhino is class but he would do a lot of travelling for internationals, we already have Veron doing that.

Does he really have such a serious party-boy mentality? In many ways he seems like a down to earth, simplistic character. But then again, so did Disco....

Further to recent Ronaldinho rumours:

From Teletext:

BRAZIL STAR RONALDINHO STILL AWOL

World Cup winner Ronaldinho has not returned to Paris St Germain after holidays in Brazil, fuelling rumours that he is about to leave the club.

Ronaldinho was expected to resume training with team-mates on December 28 but did not show up and is now set to miss the French club's first round cup game against Besancon at the weekend.

The forward has been linked with Manchester United in recent weeks.

*crosses fingers and hopes*

How much is a euro compared to a pound?

15 euoros = 10 pounds (roughley)

so we offered about 10 million.

well Nardiello coud be the perfect player to fill RVN's boots if we need, as he is strong and can take players on.

Ronaldhino on the other hand would add extra attacking power, but would mean no Cisse .
:(

I'm with the Cisse/Shevchenko/John bloody Hartson/Anyone who can score headers, crowd. The sooner we get back to 4-4-2 to better.

if u guys (some...) don't like RVN, why don't give chance to Ronaldinho!!!

Ronaldinho, Cisse, or any forwards with that kind of world class talent would be good enough for me. I just hope we get them this Jan cos we aren't scoring goals like we used to the last few seasons. After the Blackburn game, I still miss the speed and the skill of Cole and Yorke. Just imagine if we still have either of them here, we should be stronger than we are. I just hope Ruud will not get injured or we will really be in trouble.

United made a 10 million pound bid for RONALDINHO and
it has been rejected by PSG. . . they are asking for 20 mil.
Go for it Ferfy, we need him! :)

We desperately need another striker, although I'm not sure that Ronaldinho foots that particular bill. He's more of a winger who surely wouldn't oust either Giggsy or Becks when everyone is fit. Personally I'd prefer Simon Davies from Spurs over Ronaldinho, but back to the striker we need, why not Fernando Morientes from Real Madrid. A conisitent & classy performer, who although he wants to stay is clearly uwanted at the Bernabeau and I reckom would be tempted to come to OT

Yes but you must bear in mind that as long as Fergie is at the helm, we will be frequented with 4-4-1-1 type formation. If we get another striker it will be for a small amount, and mainly for cover as oppose to a major role.

It is my strong opinion that United need a player who can fill Giggsy shoes. He is, in my opinion, on a downward spiral and I honestly question whether he will ever again show the consistent form that he showed in the late 90s. Fair is fair, the lad is getting older and has had his fair whack of injuries. All good things must come to an end some time; this is why I feel a bid for Ronaldinho is on the cards, and would be quite apt for our current situation.

i second that
maybe we could get Ronny now for the left wing spot and Cisse later, maybe then we could play 433 when we need to.

Ronaldinho race is on Friday 27 December, 2002

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ronaldinho is increasingly likely to leave Paris Saint-Germain in January so Inter and Juventus have sparked a bidding war with Manchester United.

The Brazilian World Cup winner has never had a good rapport with Coach Luis Fernandez, but this week the club has confirmed he will sit on the bench until the end of the season.

The French side is also struggling with financial problems, so the sale of a £20m-rated star would boost their ailing coffers.

Inter have the upper hand as Ronaldinho has long been a target for President Massimo Moratti, who made a bid two years ago.

The Nerazzurri may well need another boost in attack following a spate of injuries to Christian Vieri, Hernan Crespo, Mohamed Kallon and Nicola Ventola.

The stuttering form of Alvaro Recoba may see the Uruguayan included in a potential swap deal with PSG.

Juventus are also on the look out for a creative force as David Trezeguet is still dealing with knee ligament worries and Marco Di Vaio has disappointed since his move from Parma.

The Bianconeri would offer Marcelo Salas as part of the deal – although the Chilean does not want a mid-season switch – or Uruguayan forward Marcelo Zalayeta.

Milan are an outside bet to win this race with an offer of Danish international Jon Dahl Tomasson, though it is unlikely Ronaldinho will be added to their Brazilian contingent.

The main rivals to Inter and Juventus are Manchester United. It is reported that Sir Alex Ferguson could release Diego Forlan as a sweetener for the deal in addition to ready cash.</strong><hr></blockquote>

tonk regarding forlan as a make weight in any transfer

Apparently he will stay with PSG until the end of the season, although if he doesn't change his attitude he won't play much. The fact is that PSG has better results without him. Incredible ! He has even missed two penalties in a row. He was very popular among PSG supporters but now it begins to change. His behaviour is not professional enough. He goes out too often (he is often seen at the Parisian strip-tease club Stringfellows...), even just before games. He was more serious last year when his mother and and sister were in Paris, but they have come back to Brazil now. Worse, when he has come back to training, after the winter truce, he was five days late. Allegedly, he had a dental problem...
So yes, this guy is a great talent, but he will have to change his attitude if he wants to progress. However, the French press says that United is still intersested and that he will leave PSG at 95 % in June.
