I guess it depends if you see the playing for a weaker team as a hindrance or as a help. I'm more leery of strikers coming from weaker teams, of whether they can adjust to the higher standard and less space they have to work with. Lukaku also scores less goals per shot than Morata, if that has any bearing on the chances argument.

Anyway, looks like we've made our choice now, so I hope it turns out for the best. Like you said we need more upgrades in attack to make this work though.
I wouldn't say no to either of them. Matter of fact I think Morata would be a better choice given our current team as he can also create, and Auba was my top choice come this summer. However we absolutely must sign a top class winger even with either Morata or Lukaku. Being heavily linked only with Perisic is a bit underwhelming tho.

Hope we can wrap this up and get Fabinho/Weigl done too then we can concentrate on the winger till the end of the window. That would improve our squad and game immensely.

Good signing for us. I have my reservations but I prefer to focus on what he's going to add rather than his perceived limitations which can hopefully be erased once here.

Given this info has clearly come from United, could it be possible we've done this to panic Madrid into allowing Morata to leave for the price we want?

Don't think we would have briefed that we would not be pursuing Morata if that was the case.

If we are usuing this deal to offload Rooney can't we at least find a way to send them Fellaini as well?

I'm wondering why Mourinho is so obsessed with huge physical men? Is it because he's a short arse?

Ruud Gullit is apparently one of those players who made a very deep impact on a young Mourinho, no idea if you've seen him play, but he was something else back in the day when athleticism arguably wasn't as important as it is today. Brilliant combination of strength and pace that really set him apart from most of his peers. I just found out Mourinho even had a dog named after him:

Would be pretty happy with this if it means:

- Rooney to Everton
- Fabinho to United
- Matic stays at Chelsea (or goes elsewhere)
- Griezemann to United in January / Summer

Trying to stay optimistic as staying out of transfer talk hasn't worked!

conflicting stories coming out on this one? Some say deal accepted, some say not. The drama continues. Maybe this is the final smoke screen for Morata? muppet season is official lads

Which is a good thing. He's proved his consistency. Morata hasn't.

Lukaku would be the focal point for us. Anyone who plays the No.9 will be.
Put it this way, our attack isn't going to be built around Lukaku to the extent Everton's was, simply because we have other talented attackers. Can Lukaku link up well with them? Maybe, maybe not. Your point about consistency is fair, and it was one of my concerns about Morata along with PL adjustment. However, there are question marks around Lukaku too.

Chelsea won't be willing to sell us Matic after stealing Lukaku from them so yep, I think we'll move to Fabinho.

Maybe, but not necessarily. When you are haggling for something sometimes you have to walk away before the seller relents and calls you back.

I actually dont think we are for Morata now because its hard to see the two of them in the same team (I definitely cant see us playing 2 up front) but it is pretty clear that clubs do not always brief journalists the truth, they brief them what they want people to think is the truth to strengthen their negotiating position.

Always felt this would happen when Koeman came out with that diatribe against the club - and that Lukaku wouldn't 'improve' if he came here.

If you add in his friendship with Pogba and the old Mourinho links, it was a no-brainer really.

A much-needed signing at a good price, in today's inflated market.

I agree I posted the exact same thing when Koeman made these comments.

Yeah, those are fair points. If Lukaku uses that pace to stretch defenses it will be a big help, but I'm concerned he doesn't really make use of his mobility enough. What I liked about Zlatan most (other than the goals) was his leadership and his ability to bring others into play, both aspects in which Lukaku is vastly inferior. Maybe he has enough other abilities in his locker to make up, we'll see.
Agree with you regarding Zlatan 's leadership, I'm actually a fan of his and would have wanted him to stay one more year but rotated more than last year. But saying that the likes of Herrera, Pogba etc have to stand up in this respect. I also think another signing is required in attack to move us up a level.

I've been in his corner from day 1...

The more I think about it, the more I want big Rom here.

I think he'd stay for years and would link up so well with Pogba.

I also think he'd play well with Rashford coming in off the wing and linking up with him.

Yeah, I want Rom here.

It's crazy money, but you gotta view signings relative to the day and age they're taking place in.

Rom vs John Stones (50m)
Rom vs Sterling (45m - few years ago)
Rom vs di Maria (60m - few years ago)
Rom vs Pogba (90m)

He's still only 23, PL proven over and over again, and rarely goes 2 matches without scoring.

In a dominant United side, he'd score between 20 and 35 goals a season, every season.

Added to that, he's settled in England, and actively thrives in the PL. He's very unlikely to start harping on about his 'dream to play' at Real or Barca etc.

Long story short - in this day and age, on his current form, he's easily worth £70m.

As the Summer goes on, I've realized that Rom is actually my fave CF option.

I just really think he'd excel here and become a fan favourite.

And, I know it divides opinion - but for me, at this point (after ADM, Falcao, Depay etc), the 'PL proven' thing is a really big deal.

Just to sign a CF and basically KNOW that they'll bag you 20-30 goals a season, and if they don't, you don't need to philosophize about whether it's them or the set-up - you'll know it's the set-up!

I'm surprised he's not more of a popular option with fans. But anyway, I for one am coming out...

I want Rom, in a United shirt, linking up with Pogba.

This would be my fave signing post SAF.

Please lets just get this deal tied up!

RED ROM!

£75m is about £25m overpriced but he will replace Ibra's goals. I think his first touch is horrendous but he does have some qualities.
I think 25 mil being stuck on to any striker we go for is the norm this window.

Not a huge lukaku fan but he does score goals and in this league as well for a poor Everton team.
Makes next season interesting

To be honest I'm going for least helpful, but once you'd pointed it out it annoyed me too much to not do anything about it.
If I have my way it'll be Darmain Dano Damien for the third year in a row. He needs that award to reduce his already over inflated ego from his most helpful award, 782 unread conversations, and strange sense of self-worth on a fecking internet forum.

Chelsea won't be willing to sell us Matic after stealing Lukaku from them so yep, I think we'll move to Fabinho.
I don't understand this, I find it hard to believe that they all act like children. United have every right to make a bid and sign anyone, as do Chelsea, I find it hard to believe Chelsea would be all pathetic and refuse to sell a player that they know they'd get a good fee for, just because United signed a player they like.

But you might be right, who knows.

I hope we didn't jump the gun and piss Everton off. Add another £5M for the feck up.

Who knows how moving onto a bigger stage will affect Lukaku. Either he will step up and grow better or shrink under the limelight. Let's see.

I thought people were saying he doesn't score against top-six sides?

Home and away against City and away at Spurs. Good goals too!

Potentially a great signing. Our caterers have been woefully underworked and the buffet cart has been largely unmolested since Anderson left.

If the above is true, then what does "clinical" mean?

@iHicksy

http://www.squawka.com/comparison-m...#goals_scored/total_shots/shot_accuracy#total

Comparing with Lukaku, Zlatan, Aguero, Costa, and Kane

Both Lukaku and Kane have the less total shots but they scored more goals. And their shooting accuracy are the highest. I remember months ago I checked Lukaku and Kane had better conversion rate (based on goals and shots) than Suarez and Lewandowski.

I didn't compare them with Aubameyang though but that was months ago, though after double check that both Kane and Lukaku are still the best ones in PL I am confident that Lukaku and Kane still had better conversion rate than Suarez and Lewandowski up to end of the season.

And also I remember I compared Lukaku's stats last season with previous seasons, I must say previous seasons he wasn't clinical at all (more like Zlatan) but last season was a different story. He has improved.

Imagine if this is a smoke-screen to get Real to negotiate down on Morata, which itself is only a smokescreen to get Everton to drop the price by £10m, which in reality is just a smoke screen to buy Troy Deeney.

For 50 million of course.

Really hope we sign him...but feeling abit down on the chances after the latest news. We jumped the gun, everton get angry and pull out, chelsea swoop in and we end up with Rooney on tour.
