don't particularly associate Hughes with it either tbh.

Me neither, he just popped into my head while I was trying to think of one. Which itself - and the fact I criminally forgot RVN - kinda proves how unexceptional the idea of a Man United No.10 is.

Rooney's probably given it a bit more gravitas tbf, but even he isn't someone I've ever associated with being a 10. It's just the number he had.

10 == Pelé == Rooney

"Just watch yourself next time, don't think I won't throw ye in the pool just because you're a woman."

I think we are waiting for Mourinho to reach there, have some photos with him the handshake ones, the handing the shirt one. Maybe Mourinho is in the announcement video also. All the shit, we can and will milk it all we can. He will be the biggest transfer of the season. I couldnt imagine how we would have milked Griezmann and his hotline celebration.

I don't want him to wear #10. I'd rather Pogba gets that
Pogba is a midfielder, not a 10 in any sense of the number... 6 or 8 suits him perfectly.

Lukaku is a classic number 9. It all depends on what our plans for Zlatan are.

I don't care about any of that position=number thing. That hasn't rang true in football for years and I don't know why people are still stuck on that.

I associate #10 with "iconic", "creative" and possibly "leader" all things Pogba is/can be.

He also asked for the #10 at Juve at one point, so I'm hoping he does it here.

Doubt it will be announced while the west coast is asleep. Midnight tonight it is.

So, the people who claim that are false? Are they false people? Is this De Brun's version of fake news?

Help me out here @SteveJ
Why can't we start giving players the right shirts for their positions - I.e. Lukaku is a no.9 so he should have no.9. Lindelof shouldn't be no.2 - that's for a right back.

Not reading through 241 pages to see if anyone has made this point but its interesting that ESPN and Phil Brown for BTP have been given all this access so far- i know we are touring stateside and trying to raise our profile even further but nowadays like with Pogba a lot of this kind of thing seems to be done playing to audiences outside the UK in terms of the times things are released etc - may be part of the reason our press pack over here are showing their arses over everything we do as they ain't getting these exclusive scoops no more.

Fair i suppose, I don't associate him with 10 either, was just pointing out he'd worn it, don't particularly associate Hughes with it either tbh.

Well our greatest ever goalscorer just wore it. Will that do.

Since this thread is getting dead. This guy says, we'll announce him at 10:00AM GMT. Using the hashtag #RedRom. Let's see.

I reckon we held off on the announcement yesterday to a) not take the shine off Rooneys announcement yesterday as per whatever agreement we had with him and b) for everyone else to arrive in the USA with all the promotional backdrops and jerseys etc. required for official unveilings.

We are also no longer beholden to the US stock market as regards transfers/announcements anymore are we?

I don't think we ever were, really.

I should be relaxed about this. I mean it's been 100% done for ages, including interviews, but I do like official announcements

We never were. That was a myth.

I'm gonna ban him. Oh wait....
