Think it's more to do with his physique, playing style and limited technical ability. Lukaku knows where the goal is though, that's for sure.

Yeah physique being a strong powerful black body, therefore some can only compare him with other strong black strikers.

I think most are more annoyed at a botched transfer rather than actually missing out on Lukaku.

For me it really depends on who is starting as a striker for us when the season starts. If we end up with Remy then most will be furious.
Maybe Conte could have handled the Costa thing a bit better in hindsight? Not many fans would be estatic with Remy on top..

Strong, quick, good in the air and lethal in front of goal, the typically perfect prem striker. I struggle to think of a player more fitting to a Jose system than RedRom. He'll be a massive success for us.

He has a heavy first touch? So did Rooney but that didn't stop him becoming United's greatest goal scorer of all time.
Besides I think, unlike dribbling, first touch is something you could work on and improve.

You can't get better. Age, goals record, settled in the area, experienced in the league. Hard to argue that isn't the full set. His fee is on par with Cole's back in 1995 if you think of the growth of the club/game financially in the last 20 years.

The £15m "add ons" equate to exactly the £7.5m they owe us each for Schneiderlin and Keane. Funny that.

Why would Everton owe us 7.5m for Keane, isn't it Burnley who owe us?

Heskey record for Ipswich- 197 matches 46 goals.
Lukaku record for Everton- 133 matches 71 goals.

Yet his comparison with Heskey hasn't got anything to do with his colour. No sir. Not at all.
Take it you mean Leicester? I never followed his career that closely, but I don't remember him playing for Ipswich

Usually a thread in United forum is opened once deal is fully completed. Someone else made the thread for Lindelof and locked the transfer thread and we ended up waiting ages for deal to be done and by that point the interviews etc were buried in rather than in opening post.

Matter of preference. I don't like threads being made earlier than needed personally. Others are fine with it but the practice had been that only once the player was on the United website holding the United shirt, that a thread would be in United forum.

Which was wrong - someone jumped the gun. We've never moved them until it's all official

Touche.

Effectively we can forgive them £7.5m on the fee they paid Burnley on the basis Burnley wouldn't have to pass it on to us.

He scores goals like that for fun. How is he awful with his back to goal?

It's bollocks argument IMO. His trademark move is with his back to the goal. Having the defender on his shoulder and moving away from him when the ball is in his direction is actually what he does best and enjoys best.

If you saw the colour then you're racist, not me. Utd desperately searching for lost glories in instant lesser club players. Under an overly defensive manager. Going for a big bully up front. I think the parallels don't need spelling out.

As for goalscoring, it's always harder in a team where the weight of expectation can break you. I await his goal scoring prowess when he is being booed like the other Everton striker you just had - and actually was world class once unlike Hes...Lukaku.
This is almost as bad as the Benteke comparison. Nice attempt.

Seriously oppo fans who are just here to WUM and post absolute drivel should be banned from these threads. They contribute nothing.

This transfer is bringing out the worst in a lot of resident opposition fans.

Confirmed

Really worried Mbappe will cost us 150me at this rate....

Hmmm....united have been at pains to say that rooney is a seperate deal. Everton seem to want it publicised its included.

Theres actually something pretty dodgy here depending on the 'official line'. There's no way ...regardless of the wage that rooney is worth 10m...isnt that what chelsea bid for him like 4 years ago?

Isn't there some tax/FFP (arf) issues with this sort of thing (inflating a price on something used to buy something).

Get in! Really excited with signing Lukaku he'll fill in the void left by Zlatan in terms of scoring goals. Now we need someone to score some goals from the wing ...

I made this point in an earlier post.
We need to buy another attacker who can contribute to our goal tally.

Yeah no way it's a world record. If it was, both Everton & United would want everyone to know.
It's not a world record because the pound has crashed against the euro since the Pogba deal. And because the addons (as easy as they maybe to achieve) haven't been triggered yet. So no the fee could pass the Pogba fee in pounds in a few years but the pound is too weak against the euro for it to be considered a world record.

Lukaku has gone from someone who struggles to hold the ball up to now being a bully?
He hasn't even signed for us yet and Jose has improved him..
Or Dumpstar is a massive racist.
Quick..get the slideshow out Father...
I must admit I never saw him as a bully. He's a big striker who scored 32 goals in 42 games last season including internationals. That will do for me.
People saying he's this that or the other. I don't care as long as he puts the ball in the back of the net. We have other players to be creative.

I can understand Chelsea fans feeling bitter but Liverpool fans ? Why ?

It reminds me of when we signed RVP and some opposition fans everywhere were calling him injury prone.

I think people are being trolled by the wording. It says fee is an initial 75m and then it says that the deal includes 15m add ons.

Clearly this is 75m + 15m like Jim White has said. There's no debate on this right?

I agree with you.

No question in my mind. Spurs did their Nike kit launch with a grime soundtrack, Stormzy was all over the Pogba transfer - Lukaku fits the profile for how football is increasingly marketing itself. He's cooler.
I think this is mainly down to the gigantic commercial/image gap between United and Spurs, not really about the players. Should Kane sign for us, I'd say he would be a part of much more professional and marketable campaign.
To be honest I have no idea who is cooler, but I still think that if it was Kane who was signed for this obscene money he'd but at least as good of a marketing prospect, we would be talking about the most expensive British player in history and arguably the most exciting English talent in quite a few years. Kane was also quite a figure for FIFA17 and England is much larger market than Belgium... Seems very marketable to me and I can imagine his United shirts would be rather easy to sell

Sorry for derailing the thread, I know it's not really a Kane vs Lukaku discussion.

Mods should be mopping up rubbish like that

What would have happened if Ibra hadn't gotten injured? Would Mourinho still be in for him? I very much doubt it. Still think it's a panic buy.

How is it a panic buy? Circumstances change. Our top scorer is injured and out for a long time, you go and buy a replacement (who scored more goals last season in an inferior team).

But he did get injured so we need a new striker....

Let this be a lesson to those that ever doubted the word of Craig Norwood, now sitting at god-tier level twitter source material.
