Based on some of the shocking posts I've read in here since the news broke out this morning, I'm simply grateful this was not a long drawn out saga like Morata's. Imagine having to read about Lukaku being a donkey with no first touch for 2 months
The season hasn't started yet. People are going to be posting this until he starts scoring goals for UTD. So we have got at least another month of this.

I basically disagree with every point you make.:D

But three things. Zombie football, RVP and Rooney have been good in tight space for the better part of their careers(I'm not talking about dribbling but movement(quickness) and for RVP first touch), 50-55% is normal for a dominant team, it's not a special plan from SAF, +55% is not normal and generally voluntary.

Care to Explain why? Arguments in support ?

You bet it is. He was the master of winning the EPL and this is what works the best against smaller teams where you need consistancy to get 3 points and this is where the league is won or lost maximum times. Against the Philosophies Pep and Klopp Play Yes You need to play with Posession based principles like united did last season all season except last 2-3 months and the first month when mourinho dint find the right balance.

Ibra's finishing was awful at times last season, packed defences had nothing to do with it either

I didn't see that albeit from the highlights so I missed some things you will have seen. But also maybe your transitions were too slow.

He makes up for that with his presence in the box and by being a flat track bully and heading ability where his aggressiveness puts the defenders on the defensive. Nither rooney nor RVP were good in tight spaces yet one is highest ever goal scorer in the club.

Also Why do you think Fergie never faced this problem? Because he adapted to it. The more you hold the ball in this league and the more slower you are in transition and in the attacking build up the more smaller teams go on the defensive in deep line because most of the teams here play a Reactive Counter Direct attacking football. The more wingers cut inside and full backs provide the width the more narrower the defense gets.

Fergie adapted to it and created More space in attacking third via a faster transition in a more direct way while going forward and with wingers providing the width so while in attacking third the strikers always had more space inside the box. He never cared about holding too much of the ball and passing it sideways and keeping it. His teams did not hold more than 50-55 % of the balls in any games.

This is what We will achive again under mourinho. And that;s why we are targetting a wide player like perisic who can provide that width. And that's why we should also target fabinho who helps in faster attacking transition and more dynamic energetic in the middle than a deep sitting mid.

One of the biggest strenghts of mourinho is to adapt to his strenghts and weakness of his players. If a player is not good in tight spaces he will play to his strenghts unlike pep guardiola who always wants one stubborn way.

Yes Morata is more technically sound but he is being quoted unrealistic price. For Ucl Lukaku is untested surely and only time can tell how he adapts and how mourinho adapts to him.
Excellent post about the nature of the PL and how Fergie adapted to it. I am not so sure José is of the same ilk though. He shares a lot of those similarities as you point out in terms of how he and Fergie both utilized a more direct approach but in the case of Fergie, what contributed to his approach to work was a highly unusual gambling instinct. Most managers are less likely to gamble as Fergie did, and Mourinho is no different if not even more unlikely. The other point I wanted to make is that whereas I agree that in the PL, going direct and taking advantage of the space in transitions has proven to be the most efficient tactic thus far at least. However, it has also contributed to our teams being left behind when it comes to ball rotation and game control through possession compared to the best European sides. Even our best teams could not achieve a level high enough that they can control games against the best European teams and that is down to in no small parts, to having to play a very different game against domestic opponents. This usually presents a paradox for most managers in our league, especially the unfamiliar ones. Mourinho and Fergie in the Queiroz era made up for it through adopting a deep defensive line when faced with high quality opponent so it might just work for our current manager.

Lukaku has gotten better year over year, and was second top scorer last year playing for Everton. Higuain, 5 years older, went for 5 million pounds more.

Lukaku can play alongside someone like Griezmann and our current attackers given that he's an out-and-out striker, while the others are not.

Struggling to see any downside, to be honest.

And the Fellaini comparison... :wenger:

He is a donkey ?
Second highest scorer in the EPL for the Last 5 years . Yes we will have a large slice of that please. Now box of a few other key areas and we are good to go.

"We should pull the Matic rug from under them over this!"

Oh, boo hoo

Imagine a striker who can score 20+ goals in the Premier League every season yet we have fans still calling him a donkey?

This place sometimes....:lol::lol:

I'm pretty sure he'll score a lot of goals for United.

He seems pretty accomplished at one-on-ones, which was a big problem for us last season.

I am sure we can bring in another player before going on tour on Sunday. Come on Ed, give us more, show us your muscles.

Please do, we'll be fecking heartbroken.

Imagine if we sign Fabinho as well, and Monaco refuses to sell them Bakayoko, the implosion of chavv fans would be worth an additional 10m.

I expect another signing next week that will travel to USA before the fist pre-season game.

Great signing, anyone saying otherwise is in fact an actual donkey. Having said that, I would not say no to Morata.

Lukaku's a significant downgrade on Zlatan, so I find it difficult to be too happy about this.

No he really isn't. Zlatan missed sitters last season - Lukaku will win us 6-9 points on his own this season.
