Starts tomorrow. Can Nadal be stopped?

Has anyone here been to Roland Garros before?

I'm coming back from Rome via Paris and am tempted to spend a day at the French open. According to the website all tickets are booked but is there a way you can queue up like Wimbledon on the day?

I've not been, but I know a few that have, and you'll get tickets from touts on the day if you knock around outside for a bit.

Nadal lost today at RG, first time ever!

http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/23052009/58/french-open-nadal-loses-world-number-109.html

World number one Rafael Nadal was beaten in a one-set exhibition match at Roland Garros by Argentine Brian Dabul.

Nadal, who has never lost an official match at the French Open, went down 7-5 to the world number 109 on the eve of the tournament in front of stands that were packed despite rain in the French capital.

Nadal can beat Björn Borg’s record of consecutive singles titles if he wins it this year.

Who will come out on top for the women, Ivanovic? Serena? Or doesn't anybody care.

Safina has to be in with a shout. I fancy someone unfancied to spring a surprise with the ladies though.

Nadal's tournament yet again, can't see anyone stopping him.

Been there twice and booked my tickets for the quarter finals this year.

If you land at Orly there is a bus, costing only 9€, who takes you to the centre of the city from which you can take another city bus and you're at Roland within twenty minutes.

If you're at Roissy you can take a taxi straight to Roland Garros but it's far more costly.

PM me if you land at Orly I give you all the details.

As for this year, you can't fail to mention that Nadal won less games, less points, had half break points less, more double faults and more unforced errors than Djokovic in their Madrid thriller.
Djokovic is the only one who can compete against Nadal, especially as it would be in the final which would provide him extra motivation. He can play 5 sets with Nadal as their match lasted 4 hours which is basically the length of a 5-set-thriller.

Now indeed the clay in Paris is very different to the one in Madrid, but that shouldn't stop Djokovic who on his day can beat Nadal.

The real thriller will be the Federer-Djokovic semi-final. To me the only condition to have an entertaining final is a Djokovic win..

Murray started well today, safely though. No real surprises so far I don't think.

Nadal and Federer began their tournament today.

It was laborious for Rafa who needed to get used to his brand new pink outfit and a strong wind, as well as a quality opponent in the person of Marcos Daniel, who played some great points. He managed to win in straight sets albeit his service being broken several times (7-5, 6-4, 6-4 or so)

Federer was average in the first set but had no trouble against a very weak opponent, Alberto Martin (6-4, 6-1, 6-3 or so)

Djokovic plays his first round tomorrow.

Quite a few unforced errors from Nadal today

Djokovic easily through today, Lapentti retired. Unlucky Nani if you went!

Just watched Serena vs Zakopalova, took about 2 and a half hours and 7 or so match points later but she ended up winning 6-3, 6-7, 6-4. Doesn't inspire confidence but might be what she needed.

Zak beat her a few weeks ago too, she's a good prospect.

No, I've bought tickets for the quarter finals on 2nd and 3rd June. :)

Indeed it was a short test for Nole but it's better this way as he'll have a hell of a calendar with Robredo looking good in the last 16 and Del Potro or Tsonga in the quarterfinals.

Thus far, the only contender for the title in the women's draw is Safina who is absolutely brilliant. All the others are average at best.

Coming back now, needs to break again.

Safina looked very good again today, 6-1, 6-1

Yeah he's got the momentum back now and Starace is making a few errors. He was looking completely woeful for a bit though and doing that annoying blaming the court, blaming the racket, blaming anything but himself thing.

Murray is brave but that won't be enough in the second week.

Great performance from Murray on his least favourite surface.
A good match. Murray got a grip and really piled on the pressure after being 1-5 down in the third.

Great after being 1-5 down in the third but before that he was shocking. Will need to pick it up if he has any chance against Nadal!

Federer struggling big time now too. The clay does strange things to tennis players.

In fact this Federer match is almost a carbon copy of Murray's!

Was 1-1 and 5-1 down in the 3rd. Now 2-1 and a break up.

Scary Federer this afternoon, and a quiet Djokovic too, who trailed 4-0 in his second set against Stakhovsky but ended up winning the set, which gives him the lead with 6-3 6-4 in a match stopped by the night.

The French are impressive, notably Tsonga who won a thriller against Juan Monaco earlier today.

Nadal, Murray to play tomorrow

She has nice boobies IIRC.

Murray's two breaks down at 5-2 in the first against Tipsarevic.

You'd think that once Murray hangs in there his class will bring him through. Tipsarevic is having to go for everything, and it's hard to see him being able to keep hitting winners like this all day.

Rafa is a Real Madrid Fan, which seems strange because his uncle was a major player for Barca in the 90's.

Philippe Chatrier:
Samantha Stosur (Australia) Elena Dementieva (Russia)
Tathiana Garbin (Italy) v Virginie Razzano (France)
Christophe Rochus (Belgium) v Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (France)
Paul-Henri Mathieu (France) v Roger Federer (Switzerland)

Suzanne Lenglen:
Svetlana Kuznetsova (Russia) v Melinda Czink (Hungary)
Andy Roddick (U.S.) v Marc Gicquel (France)
Juergen Melzer (Austria) v Gael Monfils (France)
Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez (Spain) v Serena Williams (U.S.)

Court One:
Tommy Haas (Germany) v Jeremy Chardy (France)
Jelena Jankovic (Serbia) v Jarmila Groth (Australia)
Philipp Kohlschreiber (Germany) v Novak Djokovic (Serbia)
Sorana Cirstea (Romania) v Caroline Wozniacki (Denmark)

Svetlana Kuznetsova has already beat Melinda Czink 6-1 6-3. Andy Roddick is a set up.
