Rodrigo Dourado Cunca

20 years old Brazilian who plays for Internacional. Linked with a United move. Thought he deserves his own thread in case he is coming to United.

Is he as good as our previous Rodrigo though?

His Wiki says that he has only made one appearance four years ago in the Brazilian top league and has featured predominately in the local league. Can anyone clarify?

One of the best players I have seen at his age. Makes Pogba look 'good' at most.
Only person I've seen more talented at that age was Ronaldo, Messi and Neymar
Ok I lie, I've never seen him play really

There's a chance to see him play this weekend as Internacional's match with Corinthians is live on BT Sport on Saturday at 20:30.

According to this he played against and beat a club called "The Strongest" in April

Never heard of the guy, but the idea of signing an unknown Brazilian who the club thinks is good enough is a nice one
They are Bolivian I think. Remember them from Pro Evo, and some running joke in a libertadores thread from here a few years back.

I always laugh when people see that team name for the first time  They're a Bolivian Top Flight team.

It's a cracking name, although you're setting yourself up for a fall really with a name like that. Anyway, a quick google shows that we've been linked with this guy since at least April. I hadn't noticed any of that at the time though.

He's only just broken through into the first team at Internacional, it's an odd transfer unless we've seen something special in him. But he was benched following his first appearance on the 31st May, bit of an odd transfer rumour.

Maybe he was part of the Anderson deal.

I like the sounds of this one. It has a proper United transfer feel to it. Some unknown young player

Transfermarkt says he played the full 90 on the 28th and 31st of May so that would probably explain why he was left out the next match. He was back in for the game after that.

Never seen him play, but assuming we stick with the same formation and Di Maria and Mata aren't going to play centrally under Van Gaal, it does make some sense to sign a young player we like at DM and then a starter who is ready immediately at CM, let's say Gundogan since it looks on today:

Gundogan---Herrera (Fellaini, Pereira)
-------Carrick-------- (Blind, Dourado)

With the idea being that Dourado take Carrick's spot in the squad next year or the year after (or Blind start for a year or two while he matures) but not be relied upon immediately. That's decent depth and variety in the midfield.

His only international appearances seem to have come at the U-17 South American Championship in 2011. Brazil won, but no caps for him at higher youth levels in the last 4 years. Maybe because so many young players play early there they don't really call up guys who haven't broken through at club level yet?

If he is the Busquets-y tall, skinny DM whose game is more about safe but creative passing deeper in midfield than anything else that the videos and report seems to indicate then I don't think it's weird that he wasn't that young a first-team player. Those kinds of players tend to start late and peak late, relatively speaking.

He does to seem have been in the Best XI for the State League this year (his team, another big team, then 3-4 teams with 20-30K stadiums and then small sides).

Im impressed. His ball control, composure and technique reminds me of Busquets. He also seems to have some crisp tackling skills. I hope we're in for him. The muppet in me approves.

Better sign him on a nice L O N G contract,as by the time he's ready to break into the side, you know who will sniffing around.

His playing style seems like Javi Martinez. If he is cheap, maybe it's worth a punt to see if he can play at a higher level. Sign him and then loan him out for a year or so.

Are any of the reports actually credible? Too many of these "X is close to signing Y" on Twitter these days.

Is he able to finish a game? Would he break in pieces after 2 games in a row?

If he was that special I'm sure the likes of Barca and Madrid would have been linked a few years back(actually I cant prove they were not) but at 21 this month with no full caps to his name he can't be that great. Surely we must be after better.

Have to admit aside from out Gaalactico signings I'd love for us to sign a few younger talents here and there, possibly in midfield or attack. They both didn't end up as we would have ideally liked for I really liked the Da a Silva signings. Both were very talented and it's nice to see the club try and develop such players, even if it doesn't always come off.

Herrera's almost 26 with no full caps to his name. He's turned out alright.

Hmm.

Unproven Brazilian of 20 years old

No thx got my stomach full of these so called talents most of them don't make it, some even without playing a single minute for the club and the ones that do have potential to be great first team players tend to depart the club because of poorly handled contract situations.

Pogba to Juve for 300k and De Gea to Real for the same fee we bought him for 4 years ago all because poor management !

Powell, Henriquez, Obertan, Bébé not a single one made it to the first team because they aren't weren't good enough or they even didn't get a chance to begin with.

Januzaj our so called golden boy that had a breakthrough season last year is nowhere to be seen in the team anymore. Wasted season for him and god knows what the plan for his future is ?

Wilson promoted to the first team way too fast and similar situation to adnan.

Cleverley, wasted 4 years with him just be happy to see him finally leave on a free to everton.

Rafael and Fabio another 2 great examples of talents that never materialized into anything for the club.

Many more examples of absolute poor talent management by our club

I won't even start about Anderson.

No thx sign a proven player that can be off value for us right now and stay away from these kind of players that we just clearly can't handle as a club. It is a waste of time, resources and it hinders our evolution as a club to become a football powerhouse again (apart from generating revenue and being the world fanciest billboard !)

Bit fecking stupid to lump academy graduates in with players signed from other clubs as examples of why we should only sign established talent and never take a punt on signing talented youngsters.

FWIW, it's important that we continue to do all three. Develop kids at the academy, sign up and coming talents from other clubs and sign established top class players.

Herrera's almost 26 with no full caps to his name. He's turned out alright.

Yes and Spain have had the best midfield for years..although now not the case so I'm sure if Herrera continues his good form into next season he will get caps soon. Brazil best player besides Neymar is usually Oscar whenever I watch them so it doesn't say a lot about their midfield. Plus this Rodrigo will be 21 in a week if the guy was 18 I would say yeah go for it but I'll stand by my post in we need to be after better as at that age he wouldn't want to be playing in our reserves.
