Still don't understand this. The guy barely had 30 appearances in his career and was about 27. Yet started for his national team and then was never seen again
He had a few amazing performances in the Dutch league that season. Sill a strange choice by Van Gaal.
Turned out ok though. He had a decent if unremarkable tournament.
I was thinking 2014, that's why!
What's he like as a coach? Being 9th in the league with a team that finished 11th last season doesn't feel like it's that special?

)Resultwise it's acceptable, but their play is very incoherent. He started the season preaching attacking football from out the back and told the media he was so proud of their intentions after losing 9-0 to AZ. He's since become a bit more pragmatic and they've had a few good results, but he's only 3 points above 15th place.
The low point of the season was him subbing in his taller 2nd keeper after 80 minutes to see out a 2-1 lead in a cup game against amateurs and losing 2-3 with said keeper looking bad for both goals.
Before this he did some youth coaching which says nothing really.
I hope he will become a great trainer, because I absolutely loved him as a player, but signs so far point to a new Van Nistelrooy rather than a new Xabi Alonso.
To be honest, that was one of the things I liked about LVG at United. He wasn't scared to throw a player into the side and give them a shot, instead of playing a more experienced player out of position.
Most managers wouldn't have chucked Rashford in to start when Marital got injured, the would have put a more experienced pro in, similar to Ten Hag using Mazraoui as a 10 instead of Amad.
I feel as though too many managers get too scared and act as though a youngster will come in and score a hat trick of own goals or something and would prefer to see an experienced player have an absolute mare in an unfamiliar position. There are risks that a young player might have a bad debut and dent their confidence, but that can happen in their 30th game too - if one bad game destroys their career then they're not mentally fit to be a top level pro.
Blackett, McNair etc, were not good enough but they didn't just make us concede 5 goals a game, most likely you will find serviceable contributors and every now and then you might unearth a gem.
I feel like at this point he has more promise than Van Nistelrooij: more willing to try things and learn. But that's also based on Van Nistelrooij having tried the higher level and not making it, of course. Maybe he did the same while coaching PSV's youth team.
Well, we'll be finding out now I guess.

Van Persie head coach Feyenoord with immediate effect
Robin van Persie is the new head coach of Feyenoord 1. The Rotterdam club has reached agreement with sc Heerenveen, where Van Persie was at the helm of the first team, on an immediate transfer that will allow the 41-year-old born Rotterdam native to start at training complex 1908 from next Monday. At De Kuip the same day, Van Persie will sign a contract until mid-2027.
Feyenoord has also recruited René Hake to join Feyenoord 1 as assistant coach. Hake gained extensive experience over the past 20 years as trainer and assistant coach at FC Emmen, PEC Zwolle, FC Twente, SC Cambuur, FC Utrecht, Go Ahead Eagles and Manchester United. Hake also signed with Feyenoord until mid-2027.
'We are delighted that with Robin van Persie we can appoint a true club icon as the new coach of Feyenoord 1,' said general manager Dennis te Kloese. 'Robin knows the club incredibly well and knows exactly what is needed to achieve results.'
Only started his managerial career last summer wasn't it? Looks like a big step up after only 6 months

The only way this is not going to kill his career and Feyenoord’s upcoming season is if he decides to listen to capable assistants like Reijnen and Hake.
But as I have heard he is really stubborn as a coach I’m not getting my hopes up
Best thing about stepping in midseason is that they can still sack him by the summer if necessary
Having said that: best of luck Robin, hope you will do well and make us proud.
