Robin Koch

Definitely think our name thrown in there is from the agent to drum up interest.

Curiously, the German sources insist he can leave on a free but some of the English reports I have seen online say that there is no such clause in his contract.

I don't know a lot about him but this sort of signing on a free makes a lot of sense for the present. And we can then possibly target a more established CB the following summer and concentrate on signing a GK, CM and striker in the current window.

Kicker in Germany seem to be reporting that we're interested and with him being coached by EL Loco (Bielsa) at Leeds, he could be a sensible pick up.

Has looked pretty dreadful against us from what I can remember, but then Leeds' overall defending was suicidal during that period, so he may be better than he has shown.

Absolutely no-one from the Leeds side should be a target for us, least of all anyone from their defense. Utter garbage.

If you look at the stats he was putting up under Bielsa, https://fbref.com/en/players/ea6bc03a/scout/10728/Robin-Koch-Scouting-Report you can see why we might be interested if he played like that, but since then he's really not show anything of the sort.

I think he has played in front of the defence as well, so maybe it's a versatility and depth signing more than anything.

Their defense was actually part of their attack under Bielsa and the man oriented pressing that Bielsa implemented at Leeds was very taxing on players in defensive transition and fought with extreme risk.

I agree and Bielsa's playstyle needs to be understood, which involved playing with high risk with a team that was made up of individuals who weren't qualitatively excellent.

This was my first thought. Whenever I've seen Leeds play he seemed to be positioned more as a DM rather than a CB. I guess if he can provide cover at CB and also for Casemiro it might make sense... it's still quite a reach in terms of transfer links though.

I also don't remember ever seeing him actually play well in the, admittedly limited, games I've watched him.

Personally I think this rumour is bollocks.

Yeah, I certainly have that in my mind too, whether I'm making it up - no idea!

I agree, but I also thought Mount was just a ploy for a new contract - shows what I know.

He is bang average. Not even midtable PL level. Deadwood of tomorrow.

We are downgrading our 4th CB.

Leeds fans seem to really like Koch (no joke intended!). He was really highly rated before he went there too. I have a feeling we could do far worse than signing him on a free. Obviously it looks shit when comparing the rumour with the Kim Min Jae links but realistically, it'd be hard to tell KMJ he'll be playing week in week out with Varane and Martinez in our defence (and having a third choice CD on 340k a week seems irresponsible).

Sorry, what?

Just because they're free doesn't mean they make sense. Signing a defender from one of the worst defensive units I've seen in the PL. Magnificent stuff.

I don't know about Koch but I'm rather hoping this doesn't have legs.

So we are not going for a v good prospect in Sutalo? ah well on we go. This will be another "how do we get rid of him on those wages" in 2 years time.
