Robert Bernard Fowler

Fowler's far from over the hill: same age as Becks in fact.

Not only is he a much better player than Solksjaer and Forlan, but it would really break the hearts of the Merseysiders to he him lining up in a United shirt.

You can't argue with the man's goalscoring record at Liverpool.

Admittedly, Fowler has been a great player, but no way would I want him here.

1) He's just come back from an injury that the Sheep medical team says was career threatening.

2) Our kid is at college in Liverpool, and he saw Fowler pissed up to the eyeballs, on crutches, getting turned away from the Mosquito club about a month ago.

3) He's injury prone as it is.

4) He's cup tied in Europe

Thanks, but no thanks.

Fowler has been in decline for the past 3 or 4 years, a transfer to you might give him a push for a while but ultimately I doubt that he has the desire to put the rest of his life on hold to get back to what he once was.

The stories of him on the lash are all greatly exagerrated but there is some truth in there, he has basically p1ssed it all away, and his attitude is sh1te. The incident when he was 'last' belted in Liverpool by a doorman resulted from his outstanding ridicule of a couple of girls who dared ask for his autograph.

All the old classice were trotted out, 'Do you know who I am?', 'I earn more in a day than you earn' etc.

Oh yeah, congratulations on the last few weeks, really turned it round. Couldn't face it until now! :(

Interesting to see the Fowler speculation get a mention on The Premiership tonight.

I wonder... There are a lot of plusses:

We do need a proven striker, and Fowler is that. Fergie has always rated him very highly and it may be a smart bit of business. He's young, hasn't lost any class and may just need the right manager and environment to start producing again. Fowler's a class act, he needs a big stage and Leeds can't give him what he needs. Perhaps we can.

Besides, he'd be cheap therefore low-risk, he's proven Premiership class and would make an excellent back-up to RVN. And he'd have something to prove - massively.

This business about him being a scouser... forget it, I can't imagine Fergie, the unsentimental bastard that he is, would give that a second's thought.

Got a funny feeling about this one... it's the sort of crazy move that Fergie's pulled off before.

im not too sure about this..

on one hand his goalscoring record since he went to leeds isnt that bad & a fee of 2.5m has been mentioned.

on the other hand, he's looked unfit, overweight etc

the question is, could Fergie turn him around?

I have no doubt he would still score goals, given the chances but i would just question the effect he might have on other players.

Going to a club like United would give him a major chance at outgunning his old colleague Owen again. He might relish the chance to prove that he was (and possibly still can be) the number 1 english striker.

Didnt he clash with keane in the 96 cup final?

He could be a disruptive influence, but if SAF could curb that negative side of his game he could be ok.

What am I saying, no scousers.

No Scousers? I couldnt care where people are from provided they give 100% for the club. Look at Steve Coppell, he was always committed and he was a scouser.

Fowler isn't any old scouser, he was the kop's darling. He's everything I hate about Liverpool, and one of the biggest nobheads they've had. I don't want him anywhere near OT unless its as an opposing player on the losing side. I couldn't cheer him, I just couldn't do it.

I agree. Let the overweight coke tooting has-been be someone else's problem. Would hate to see him here.

Wouldnt it be great to get one over on the Kop by having "god" in a united shirt.
Thats the only good reason i can see for buying him, cos he's a wank footballer.

He scores when he plays.

The thought of seeing him score v the vermin at Unfilled is the main reason I want him.

So what.

Don't you remember what it was like watching Ince slowly decay at Unfilled. OK he scored against us a couple of times - but on the whole it was fun watching him realise he just wasn't top class anymore. And Fergie's "Big time Charlie" quote more than made up for any angst.

I think the scouse would love to see a washed up Fowler polute our dressing room - even if he did pop up and score a goal against them. Keep this little shit East of the Pennines (unless there's a birth for him at Maine Rd)

Completely know what you mean, but for nearly the whole of England, Becks was the supreme symbol of all they hated about United, especially after World Cup 98. And Becks has shown how you can get incredibly hostile crowds back on your side. The trouble is, Becks has guts, character and is a born winner, I am not sure Fowler has that type of class.

Difference was Ince was in his 30s, as I recall, when he went to Anfield, and that's old for a box-to-box midfielder (and is why Keano is talking about changing his game). Also he believed he was an attacking not a defensive midfielder and he wasn't up to it. His role at OT was pretty restricted, his reluctance to accept his limitations was why he left.

The situation with Fowler is different. In theory he's at his peak age. The question is whether he can find his way back to the top. Houllier thought not and Fergie has tended to rate Houllier's opinion of players (it was Houllier who gave the nod about Cantona to Fergie, years back).

Having said that, lots of players do find their way back. Merson did, he was superb at Villa.

5 years ago, sure, wouldn't hesitate. Now? Forget it, even Forlan is a better bet to score goals.

I thought it was funnier seeing Diego get his brace an Anfield, after some of the stick Diego had been gettin from the Scousers

Just read he's just turned the massives down after they agreed a fee of £8 million. He wants to fight for his place at leeds. Keegan is now turning his attention to Miroslav Klose.
