i'd like to know wat utd fans think of the idea of buying fowler???? it appears he wants to go to utd r did anyway it hurts me to read this fowler was god

from koptalk
November 1998, Liverpool football club gained a player by signing Cameroon captain Rigobert Song from Salernitana but little did most of us know that in the same week we almost lost a player as well.

The player in question was Robert Bernard Fowler, or "God" to the Anfield faithful, who was on the verge of leaving (some would even say at some stage determined to leave) for another club.

This in itself would have shaken the club to its very foundations at the time especially considering the club he wanted to join. Had he succeeded in joining them it could possibly have put an end to Gerard Houllier's reign as Liverpool manager - remember Gerard was at that time nowhere near as bullet-proof as he is now.

The club in question was of course Manchester United. Ferguson thought he had his man, and if it wasn't for the iron will of both Gerard Houllier and
David Moores he would have, as Ferguson was ready to smash the British transfer record at the time for Fowler. Things had even gone so far as Ferguson paying visits to the home of Fowler in an effort to unsettle him, in which he very nearly succeeded. It took the biggest contract in the history of English football (bigger than Keane's much vaunted package at the time) and a vice-captaincy to get the "Toxteth Terror" to stay. Fowler signed his contract on the same day as Song.

But ultimately as time told, this wasn't good enough for Fowler. He couldn't take not being the main man about Anfield; there was a new kid in town.

Even the absolute adoration and worship of the Kop, in which he was (some would say shamefully) more appreciated than the player who would become European Player of the Year, was not enough to stop him leaving the club that had made him into a star.

So after two years of injuries, weight problems and sulking Robbie Fowler asked his friends in the world of journalism to start approaching clubs to see if they might be interested in acquiring the services of a player who had the talent and ability to become the greatest player of his generation but who ultimately wasted it at Liverpool. And so it came to be that one sad morning last November the player who was born to wear the number 9 for Liverpool left to wear the number 27 at Leeds.

Fowler can feck off.

The coked up scouse no mark is not United quality.

Maybe five yrs ago- wouuldn't piss on him if he was on fire now.

Dictionary on "fowler":

"Person who hunts, traps or shoots wildfowl, such as the duck, goose, turkey, or pheasant, that is used as food."

When did Steve Coppell play for Looneypool.

Enlighten me.

He didn't but then I believe "scouse" is a generic term for people from the Liverpool area as opposed to just those that played for looneypool. If you're going to argue that we shouldn't have players from a team that is considered the "enemy" then you should include Leeds in that bag: So no Mr Cantona or Ferdinand???
Maybe you should see through your hatred for a team & recognise talent, although as I said I believe Mr Fowlers is now in decline, sadly.

for 5m, i'd say he'd make a good bench player for us. don't think he'll settle for that, but that's all i would have offered him if i were SAF.

Buss off he is OGS bad copy. I prefare the Norwegian mind you

At his best, surely Robbie Fowler is as good a finisher as it ever gets. He has the eye for goal and can finish from any position. Who can forget of all things the goals he scored against us??? Robbie Fowler is a great talent and would add quality to our side. I would love to see him come to Utd.

Robbie R.I.P. He was a top finisher, although he seems to have lost his touch now...

But something is just not right about him joining Manchester United...don't know what...but I personally respect him for being the scouse that he was. Going to the sheep won't change that, but going to Manchester...God forbid.....something's just VERY wrong about it...

But once upon a time he was an amazing striker !

I can understand that funny talking from an American.

Robbie Fowler is too similar ( actually inferior) to someone called Ole Gunnar Solskjear.

He has the same finishing of the Norwegian but

He moans more.
He has less technique
And he is a feckING SCOUSER

Fowler is like Anelka without pace

So I dont want HIM

Upps sorry about the Anelka thing, what i wanted to write is that he has the same character of Anelka without that lightning pace

Ok i got caught I PERSONALLY HATE R Fowler and dont rate him at all

And btw you can have M Owen my friend. CHANGE THE SHIRT AND START SUPPORTING LIVERPOOL.

fowler's character's very different to that of anelka.

anelka's a sulky brat. . .fowler's just an idle wastrel.

I wont spend 20m for a fecking ( talented ok) dwarfie Scouser who passes 1/3 of the season licking his wounds.

I would rather go to Ronaldinho. the best partner for RVN

Im sure that if we wish to make adverts for clearasil or plasteraid then we can think of another way to do it.

Livvie in your new guise can you close this thread?

It is making me very nauseous.

Alan Green's just been saying how he's heard major rumours about this.

Please God no!

If we closed all the threads that make people sick, we'd have to close the forum.

Did you feel the same about Eric coming from Leeds ORM?

fowler

i feel like throwing up.

no scousers please.

plus he's past it... if he wasn't, i suppose liverpool would have kept hold of him..

I think most United fans would secretly be pleased if we signed Fowler, if only for the smugness factor. But how long would that last, about 3 weeks, just long enough for Fowler to breakdown.
Fergie is still a big fan and stranger things have happened in football, but I just can't see it working out.
The PLC wouldn't sanction £8-10 million for such an injury-prone player.
O'Nearly and Publicity Pete took their chance and got badly burned. Why should the United board fall into the same trap; just because it would piss-off a rival team and fans?
On one level it's tempting, and I'm sure the United management have considered it and perhaps raised a few eyebrows at the prospect before moving onto more viable options.

My prediction is that Fowler will end up back at Anfield in the summer after Houllier suddenly announcining his retirement on "health" grounds.

Fowler is a lifelong 'blue nose' and I wondered whether he might end up at Everton but I can't see him getting along with Moyes' work ethic.

I think there's may still be some mileage in him, but I'd hate to see this Club part with good money for a scouser with a decent past, and no real future.

if fowler dosent play v. malaga on thursday then the rumers could be true!!!
and it would piss the scousers off no end if he signed for United at the right price ,,£6 million

All morning on Talksport so far, they have been having a phone in discussing the likelyhood of Mr Fowler moving to United.

Can't be happening can it?

The presenters on the radio seem to think they have heard strong rumours that it will happen!

Cup tied for Europe though.

One of the greatest finishers of his generation, a true striker.

And he pissed it all away with a bad attitude. Even with all his money, I still think of him as a loser.

He might of scored the other day but he still looks unfit and had a shit game (goal aside), I don't think he'll ever get back to full fitness again.

He can feck right off.

I'd a taken him a few seasons ago but he'd only be a cut price option at the moment. Would he be happy being 3rd/4th choice. There is a little part of me though that cant help thinking if he did come to us and scored the winner against the dippers, how would we all feel then??

Lets buy Fowler and sicken the scouse bastards

On the radio they were saying how it's a done deal and a £2.5 million transfer fee has already been agreed.

But Owen has media appeal and you are guaranteed millions from shirt sales alone. 20m would be a good deal from a commercial point of view.
