1- Yes please I don't care if he cheats or not as long as we win

2- No thanks I don't want to see him cheating at our club

Bit simplistic I know but that the crux of the matter as far as I am concerned.

Let's be having your votes.

Any mod who cares to make this a proper poll please do.

Resounding no from me anyway as you may have guessed.

Great player, however, I've never liked him, he's always been a con artist imo so the Turkey fiasco really iced the cake for me. I don't mind a bit of deception here and there but he's made it a prevalent part of his game.

I'd support him if he came but I'd still dislike the cnut.

I think the crux of the matter is not the cheating but, despite the unquestionable skill, what kind of impact it will have on the team as a whole, team spirit and whether the club looks at building for the future or just shopping around for quick-fix expensive 2-year solutions.

Options:
1-Rivaldo's skill, despite the cheating and self-centered attitude.

2-Sod his skill, the cheating and attitude will take its' toll on team spirit and image, not worth it.

For me it's simply a question of his outrageous cheating. My poll not yours :p

thanks for the choices. <img src="graemlins/yawn.gif" border="0" alt="[Yawn]" />

I just didn't want to start clogging the forum with alternative posts.

Notice that in this way we get more NOs.(Yeah!) ;)

Just to let you know Antohan. I have never ever wanted Roberto Carlos OT. I hardly rate the fellow as United material. ;) But I want 'Rivaldo desperately :( unless we get ronaldinho instead :)

Not sure about your more Nos theory Antohan.

Most seem to want him.

The hell with cheating-rivaldo. Hopefully no one signs him.

I don't keep check of all those you want under your different identities. I guess you will have to get used to being the generic term to refer to panic-buyers ;)

I would like Ronaldinho at OT. Nice bloke, enjoys/loves his football rather than the money in it, very skillful and young, can give us many years of wizardry. Unfortunately our kitty has taken a beating so I can't see it happening. But I refuse to bring problems on us just because we have spent too much and Rivaldo is free, he would be a mistake.

How could a player of his ability not improve the team? So what if he doesn't mix well with others or have a surly attitude, look at Keano! ;)

If you give more reasons to say no you will cater for more people, that's the logic.

Not surprised about more wanting him, they only know what they see on the pitch. Someone even said Rivaldo does the business for Brazil but not for Barca. Well, the funny thing is, over the qualifiers the Brazilians said the opposite. Could it be that his drive/contribution to the team is suspect for both club and country?

1. Yes please, we would go into the CL final at OT against Real with a better team than they have...

1. YES, he will improve the side, that cheater played a big part in Brazil winning the World Cup.
To get a player of his skill on a free transfer is a bargain, i remember the goals he scored against united during the Treble season, after watching the world cup nothing seems to have changed. Do you think he would have helped in last years Semi-final ?

fine.
just remember to come up with a poll like this every time Becks flops around, Ruud dives in the box, Keano goes in with a two-footer, blah blah blah....

Kinell, mate no need to go overboard. Becks flopping (which I've already said I don't agree with), Ruud's diving (he's done it once to my knowledge - I hope he doesn't again), Keanes two footers (that's just football mate) pale in comparison to what Rivaldo does.

There's talk he'll come to our club. Hence the poll. I'd rather he didn't come. Most of the rest would rather he did. What's your problem?

Rivaldo will be an asset to almost every team, but the main question is: Will he fit in? Where should he play?

Rivaldo, Solskjær, Forlan, Veron, Giggs, Fortune, Yorke. Some of them would have to go to make room for a World Cup super star, looking for the contract of the decade...

I say forget about him...

agree with what ya had to say on the 'Rivaldo's free transfer' - the poll is a little biased - already you're convinced that he will cheat and that he'll do it on a weekly basis...
maybe he will, maybe he won't - meantime we've got players at the club who also get up to less than exemplary behaviour - Ruud done it a few times and not won a penalty, got it against Ipswich

my problem - i want Rivaldo playing in red, i also don't wanna see United players disgrace the club - he hasn't done it yet...

your choices could apply if he arrived and did get up to some unsavoury stuff - then,

1.do you want to cheat and win?

is a fair question,
now,
well we could ask that of ourselves, every time someone dives, blah blah...

I have to say I agree with that. Those two up front would be a handful. But a winning team is not just a collection of good players, what happens off the pitch and the bond between them is crucial. That's were Rivaldo scares the life out of me. I can't see him fitting and if he doesn't we should stay clear.

1. I like Rivaldo, perhaps a shite attitude but he is a world class player so why not. He does the talk but can back the bullshit up on the pitch where he does the walk. We have David Beckham in our team, a fecking teen celebrity. If the other guys can tolerate that they sure as hell would be able to cope with Rivaldo.

How on Earth would he fail to feet in with him creating 3/4 of Ruud's goals eh Antohan?

Fair dos, but I've seen him do the same on pretty much a weekly basis for Barca - it's part of his game - anyone who justifies what he did against Turkey in the manner he did is admitting it's part of his game

maybe he will, maybe he won't - meantime we've got players at the club who also get up to less than exemplary behaviour - Ruud done it a few times and not won a penalty, got it against Ipswich

As I've said I don't agree with any of it.

my problem - i want Rivaldo playing in red, i also don't wanna see United players disgrace the club - he hasn't done it yet...

I honestly think he would, especially in Europe - he hasn't won the CL and we know form what he's said before about what he'll do for his own personal glory. Admittedly this is a hypothesis but it is one which I based upon what I have seen and heard of the guy.

And perhaps we should.

1 He may have cheated in the past but surely he would know that he's now a watched man. He'd be so stupid to try it again as people, especially referees, will be watching for it. Let him come if he wants to.

Based on everyone's posts, Rivaldo has done exactly the same thing at Barca (creating and scoring wonder-goals). Yet, he doesn't fit in there.

When Brazil went to play Catalonya before the WC, the Barca fans were all over Ronaldo. They don't give a toss about Rivaldo.

If he is so great that you can forget about his shortcomings, how come Barca are giving him a free transfer at the manager's request? (not for financial reasons). That is, how come a manager who has worked with him at Barca before, comes back and the first thing he asks is for him to leave. And how come, if he is so fecking marvellous for Barca, the manager's request is duly accepted.

What makes you think that a player who is disliked by the fans, the manager, the board and his fellow players is going to be great for us?

what makes you all think he wouldnt fit in at United???
take a United legend for example: Cantona
Not wanted in his own country, called all the french FA all the names under the sun, sulked at having a trial with Sheff Wed, sold by Leeds for a paltry fee, rumoured to be shagging team-mates wives, grumpy motherfecker who spoke shite, yet after all that, on the pitch went on to be one of the greatest United players ever. Hell, sent off so many times for United and topped it off by jumping into the crowd and attacking a fan in front of thousands of fans and the BBC camera's. But again, we forgave him because on the pitch the man was a genius.
Now..tell me again why we dont want Rivaldo? How will we know if he wont fit in if we dont try? The man might fit United like a nice pair of thermal gloves on a cold wintry day.

If Rivaldo's up for a free, lets take him on a 2 year contract, talk his wages down a bit, and let him do his stuff on the pitch at OT. I guarantee he would fall in love with the place and go on to be a legend like Cantona.
