Ten albums I should be checking out? Currently, I'm listening to Royksopp's Melody AM. But I want more quality ones that I've missed out on. And Lana Del Rey can do one....

It's pretty hard to do, without knowing your taste and what you have heard so far.

Have you listened to The Roots latest album yet, Spoons? Undun, it was one of the best albums of the last year.

It's not new, but I have a feeling you haven't heard it. You should listen to David Bowie's Outside, it's very cinematic, I'm pretty sure you'll like it.

I listen to Alice Russell's new album quite a lot.

Quantic if you like Alice Russell she features on a lot of their stuff

Check out Sublime, Spoony. Old but good.

These days I listen to this stuff:

Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes
Helplessness Blues - Fleet Foxes
Smoke Ring for My Halo - Kurt Vile
The King is Dead - The Decemberists
Have One on Me - Joanna Newsom
Bon Iver - Bon Iver
There's No Leaving Now - The Tallest Man on Earth

Cheers, folks. Thing is Cinc, any genre, because it's the only way to broaden... Same goes for cinema, why restrict ourselves to a specific genre...or language?

Flying Lotus - Cosmogramma...jazz inspired, electronic, experimental space opera
Blue Sky Black Death - Late Night Cinema...instrumental hip hop-ish music
Sufjan Stevens - Illnois...good acoustic shieet
Tame Impala - Innerspeaker...psychedelic indie rock

The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
TV on the Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain, Dear Science
The Last Shadow Puppets - The Age of the Understatement
Tame Impala - Innerspeaker

Iron Maiden - Powerslave (Heavy Metal)
Mastodon - Leviathan (Technical Progressive Metal)
Symphony X - The Odyssey (Progressive Power Metal)
Megadeth - Rust In Peace (Thrash/Speed Metal)
In Flames - The Jester Race (Melodic Death Metal)
Acid Bath - When The Kite String Pops (Doom Metal)
Slipknot - Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat (Alternative Metal, this album is a bit weird but in a good way)
Dream Theater - Metropolis Part II: Scenes From a Memory (Progressive Metal)
Lamb of God - Ashes of the Wake (Metalcore)
Opeth - Deliverance (Extreme Progressive Metal)

Perfume Genius - Put Your Back In 2 It
The National - Alligator, Boxer, High Violet
Twin Shadow - Forget, Confess
The Walkmen - You & Me
Spiritualized - Sweet Heart Sweet Light

You'll be a while going through all those but if you get a chance listen to Turn On the Bright Lights by Interpol. It's their debut album, I guarantee you'll be in love with it after a few listens

Yeah, I've got loads now. Anyone into Sigur Ros? I've got their Agaetis Byrjun album, seems a good'en. Wow, Rdio's brilliant.

Canterbury - Heavy In The Day
Young Guns - Bones
Twin Atlantic - Free
Enter Shikari - A Flash Flood of Colour
letlive. - Fake History
Lowkey - Soundtrack to the Struggle
Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs - Trouble
SBTRKT - SBTRKT

Edit: Also, Sigur Ros are amazing. Beautiful music

( ) and Takk have some strong songs as well. Their latest, Valtari, is beyond boring. Ágætis byrjun is by far the best though.

Highly recommended:

First Aid Kit - The Lion's Roar
Justin Townes Earle - Harlem River Blues, and Yuma
Cat Power - You Are Free
Serge Gainsbourg - Jane Birkin & Serge Gainsbourg (He's a lot more than that song).
Calexico - The Black Light
The Brian Jonestown Massacre - Take It From The Man!
Sigur Rós - Agætis Byrjun (The new Valtari is decent as well).
Madrugada - Industrial silence
Kings of Convenience - Quiet is the new loud
Yoyoyo Acapulco - The Plemeuleuc Experience (If you can't find it some of their tracks can be found here, work your way from the bottom)

Hehe, simultaneous post almost. I rate Agætis and ( ) as the two outstanding Sigur Ros albums. I think their latest is better than the two in between. If you want to get technical I would highly recommend checking out the Ny Batteri EP which has the full intro to Ny Batteri which they play live. The Vaka EP is good as well, and don't forget the Sæglopur EP.

Why no Black Metal?

A better description of Mastodon is Isis/Neurosis wannabees.

Perfume Genius - Put Your Back In 2 It
The National - Alligator, Boxer, High Violet
Twin Shadow - Forget, Confess
The Walkmen - You & Me
Spiritualized - Sweet Heart Sweet Light

If he's going to listen to a Spiritualized album, he may as well make it a good one. 'Pure Phase' or 'Ladies and Gentlemen...'.

The Gaslight Anthem - Handwritten

I've had it on repeat since I had it. Other music can sod off and wait its turn.

Nujabes - Modal Soul

If you like underground hip hop with jazz influence, you'll love this album!

I forgot to "Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust" but it goes into the some good songs category. Agree though that () is very good, more so than I gave credit for in my post.
Then there is Von, their first album but that's not worth a listen imo at least not unless your a massive fan.

Agree, you need a decent amount of hours of listening time to the band before you'll be able to appreciate Von. The original Hafssol is on Von though, which has become famous live because of the use of the drumstick on the bass, also re-recorded on some single from Takk.

Sticking to albums that came out this year:

Sabaton - Carolus Rex
Anathema - Weather Systems
Diablo Swing Orchestra - Pandora's Pinata

Misfits - Static Age

Less Than Jake - Losing Streak
Rancid - And Out Come The Wolves
Refused - The Shape Of Punk To Come
Iron Maiden - Piece Of Mind
The Stranglers - Rattus Norvegicus
