Reading's finest, makes an appearance on channel 4 this Friday, in the form of Fame.

Any of you caftards seen it, or were there live? What are your thoughts?

For me a I didn't think it was anywhere near as good as Animals, and not as good as politics. Still very good though, imo.

His stand up isn't great imo. Office... brilliant. Extras... very good, especially the specials. XFM shows and some of the podcasts... hilarious. I wouldn't pay to watch his stand up though.

The last series of the podcasts came out the other day. Very good, especially since I didn't pay for them. :)

Fair point. Have you seen animals? In my opinion that is one of the best stand up shows i have ever seen.

His stand up isnt the best you will ever see but its worth a watch. But if you want laughs then just grab the podcasts and new audiobook which are laugh a minute stuff. And if you enjoy those then go about grabing the XFM back catalogue which are even better.

Saw the Fame tour live at the Manchester Apollo. It was good, though he was pretty ill at the time and did well to perform to be honest.

From what I've read his new movie Ghostown getting positve reviews as well. Should be great.

I really liked Fame. It's behind Animals and better than Politics, in my opinion.

I saw him on his Politics tour back in 2004, was a very good show. All three have been good in my opinion. Has he any plans for further stand up?

I'd agree. Some of the stories and comparisons/situations he has animals in are amazing. All the bible snake stuff, the polar bears etc.

When the coastguard go out... "(boat noise) shug-shug-shug-shug-shug... That's me in a speedboat, I'm not wanking off a bloke behind me."

Bizarrely it was even funnier than I remember it being the first time.

I just love his style of comedy. He's transferred it from sitcoms to stand up perfectly. Always pushing the audience to laugh at things that they shouldnt laugh at, but in a completely fun loving way. He's not afraid to make fun of himself and even to make fun of his own joke in the process of telling it!

best bit of fame is at the start

i know what youre thinking, ricky gervais is still doing stuff for charity?! shut up.

what? how much did i raise for cancer alone last year? it doesn't matter mate

That's my favourite bit as well, I'm not really sure why!

I saw Fame live and thought it was good but it felt really over-rehearsed. The "Suki, go to the well" bit annoyed me because he was trying to give the impression of spontanaity but it was absolutely identical every performance (the one I saw and the DVD).

Still had me in tears on several occasions though. Not as good as Animals and Politics but still a laugh.

He's in some crap movie out here that's about to tank 'Ghost Town'.

Thats how i felt. Animals and Politics felt like they had more spontaneity to them.

Its was more the other way round, but agree with all your sentiments :).

I think his stand up is weak but he's peerless as David Brent:

That's class! I love his conversations with "himself" where he plays up to his ego.

"You're... a daddy long legs."
"I'm a what?"

When he goes on about his BAFTA's is always good too.

He first did stand up long after the office had come out, no?

A couple of years after The Office first started, but it actually hadn't finished when he did Animals. Basically, he did that tour in 2003 and the Xmas specials weren't out until later that year.

He did loads of shit before the Office. Worked on Radio a lot (XFM) after previously working in the music industry for years.

I'm a massive fan, gutted i missed it on Friday now.

I saw the Fame show live in Blackpool, and at the time thought it was top quality. Some of his stuff does seem to go under the radar as its ver clever and intellectual. I clearly missed many of the jokes! ;)

In seriousness though i would recommend a viewing of eithe of the 3 shows s each are for me quality in their own right.

Yep. Also, 11 O'Clock show as well as managing Suede briefly! Oh, and being in his own pop ground... <Something> Dancing they were called, mid-late 80's.

I'm forever grateful to him that he brought Karl Pilkington to the limelight

The Ricky Gervais show on HBO last night was awesome. It was the first episode of the first season so you haven't missed much.
