Richard Arnold secretly filmed whilst speaking to supporters

He comes out of this with his reputation enhanced. The cynic in me thinks he knows this was bound to be leaked so hopefully he's not just giving the fans lip service. At the very least though, he had the guts to come out and engage with the fans, something you would have never seen with his predecessor.

Nice sure-fire way to ensure he never interacts with fans again.

Seems like a decent bloke from the recording anyway.

This is why these protest groups are fecking jokers. They claim they want thing to be better and then they go a film someone without their permission and post it on the internet for their 15 minutes of fame.

On top of that, he’s right. If you want a new stadium and a new training ground that money has to come from somewhere. Either a loan or sponsor money. So get over the fact they’re going no where and stop damaging the club with shitty protests that do nothing but put off potential investors.

Filming him without his knowledge - I don't condone. But he's not stupid, I doubt he didn't expect the possibility. I mean, even without being filmed, he'd have known what he said would make its way into the public domain. I doubt he agreed to speak in confidence. But I do want to reiterate I think it's out of order to film surreptitiously.

As for what he said, I can't subscibe to theidea that he deserves any credit for it. He sat on the fence for the most part and said as much as he can say in the circumstances. He still has a lot to do to prove his competence in the role. Don't get me wrong, I want him to prove himself. Right now all we have are his words - his words that he isn't happy with where we are, that there's money for players (hardly a revelation) and that we need investment to properly develop the ground and the training complex. Okay, he's said it. Now get on and do something about it.

Perez and Laporte do about 50 interviews a summer doing exactly this…on live TV. Talking about everything openly. It’s not sackable at all.
On purpose meaning its been approved to share. Anyway seems the people posting online have been telling lies about what he said anyway

I think that would have been uploaded to an entirely different website.

Actions speak louder than words. Until we see some genuine change in how the club is run I couldn't care less about what Arnold says.

On the filming, I'm sure fans wanted to allow others to hear what he said and to see if he is just another stooge for the glaziers. Too many on here are getting their knickers in a twist about it. He didn't say anything that we didn't already know. The club is broke.

it will only put him off engaging with fans in future. he was really rude to me when he found me riffling through his bins and stealing his wife’s knickers off their clothesline and i can only imagine that’s in response to these so call ‘fans’
If he wasn't happy with you doing it then why did he buy the house? I thought all the estate agents in that area gave potential buyers the Rimaldo Brochure so these unseemly situations wouldn't occur and you could carry on doing your good work in peace?

You could look at it cynically and it could be staged. How would Arnold get wind of a protest at his house? Wouldn't the safe thing be to call the police? Would you brave going down the pub with a gang of men you have never met before? Wouldn't you notice a phone pointed at you as he looks right at it a couple of times where he is sitting? Also couldnt hear the 200 mill being said. Mighty suspicious if you ask me.

I don't want to watch it as I feel its not right... but I am so curious as to what he said...

Can anyone summarize? Appreciate it.

It's a never ending battle.

Arnold wants to do things. But it costs money.
He gets sponsors in to get the money
Preparation etc etc happens to bring the money in and spend it appropriately, plan it all
Protests
Sponsors pull out
Rinse and repeat.

People need patience. New CEO seemingly wants to do things right but we got to wait for it.

Though that being said.

100% if new players and shiny new toys was brought in every year and we won every trophy under the sun, no fan would give half as much of a feck about the stadium or the training ground. Fans are fickle. If you win shit. No one cares about anything else. Guarantee if ETH wins a trophy or two next year and gets UCL. All this protesting shit stops.

Let's say that this was never filmed and some guy on twitter claimed he was there and paraphrased or quoted Arnold's comments and it didn't get much exposure (retweets etc) then none of us would probably know about this incident or even if we did then we would be questioning how true the quotes were.

If Arnold's gone to a pub to stop a few scrotes turning up at his house and said things to them he wanted only them to hear then he is very naive to not believe he may have been recorded.

It's interesting because I'm not sure how this will work out for him.
Someone just needs to take a picture and then we wait for a fanzine to speak to the people who were there and get the word for word transcript. We also don’t need to be privy to every single conversation that’s had around Manchester United.

This. Club Presidents/CEOs have said similar to what Arnold has done regarding transfers. Just in a more structured setting.

He hasn’t actually said anything - I for one, having never seen him speak before, am
Impressed with the way he dealt with this bunch - thought he was calm, collective, didn’t deny, didn’t agree, didn’t say yeah or nah just said we back the management team in recruitment and he, as new ceo, won’t be part of that process unlike his predecessor.

He knew he would be filmed - it’s just a message to tell everyone who is panicking - please trust the process!

I do think that it's wrong to film someone speaking candidly (if what he said really was candid - I think it was waffle to avoid a protest at his house, and fair enough) but I also think that the club has been so horribly run that I don't mind fans getting in on the power structure and having a bit of a dig. I really really find it hard to believe that Arnold wouldn't have expected the possibility of being secretly filmed. He'd have to be very naive not to, and I also doubt he insisted on what he said being confidential. One way or another, he knew what he said what going to get out there. He said nothing of real interest. As you say, actions speak louder than words, and I'll be judging everyone on their actions, from the Glazers to Arnold, to Ten Hag to Harry Maguire to James fecking Garner. We always used to judge the club on its actions.

Massive respect for Arnold for doing this, and he comes out of it really well. Seems like a nice bloke who wants to do well.

The fans can feck off though.

We’ve spent £1b but you look around the training ground and you can’t see it (in the players) we’ve wasted the most money in Europe.

Goes on to say that attacking the sponsors is bad because new training grounds and stadiums cost money and that has to come from a loan or investment (sponsorships) so when they pull out it means there’s less for the club to spend on those things.

Says he’s not there to defend the Galzers, they can speak for themselves.

Says he fecking hated watching the games last year. It was terrible.

I was wondering if those 'protesters' had a journo set up to take lovely pics of them outside the guys house, but he's got wind of it through contacts in the media.

For example Mbappé knows that he has Perez wrapped around his finger. The love is real.

Did he say anything about players wearing skirts or the best footwear during a zombie apocalypse?

Yes and talked about on going active negotiations and budget for the summer with numbers. Thats a sackable offence at any major multi national firm
I assume you have no idea what you are talking about since executives (in football and non-football businesses) talk about active negotiations and budget ALL THE TIME. Just go and watch some quarterly financial report presentations.

Are you serious with that first question ?

"Hey honey, I know it's a Saturday and the kids want to go to the park but I'm going to pop out for a couple of hours so I can film a fake video so that random people who won't affect my job whatsoever will think I'm a stand up guy."

Fans have every right to protest over the state of the ownership. As much as I want the club to have new shiny things its never going to happen under the glaziers. They syphon money out of the club all the time, they couldn't give two feck about what happens regardless of what Arnold says. We're a cash cow and we will continue to be milked by the leeches for the foreseeable. The only way to stop them is through protesting not sitting and hoping that ETH becomes fergie.
