Rewinding Erik's Transfer Business

Imagine him with a Frimpong overlapping.

I really thought this was going to be the plan this summer but instead we extended Dalot and kept Wan-Bissaka. I don’t think it would suddenly have made Antony a €100m player but it would have made him a far less predictable outlet having a genuine overlapping threat beside him.

Maybe next year…

People may have an argument here or there regards age or so on, but it's hard to argue that the following were good or at least understandaable signings. (I'm not including loans)

Onana, Martinez, Malacia (As a cheap back up), Casemiro, Eriksen

The jury is still out on the following who may well come good: Hojlund, Mount.

In fact, if we take out the Antony signing, the 'failure' of his transfers is massively overstated. I'd much sooner see a squad full of the sorts of players listed here than the likes of what we've gotten rid of or are still stuck with. I'm just about losing hope, but even Antony might still come good, he wasn't terrible last season and has barely featured this year.

People declared binning Ronaldo for 1 goal Weighurst was genius at the time. Wasn't ever quite sure on that one.

Hard to say any of the rest was success. Even Casemiro and Martinez are open to debate currently.

We could have signed Alvarez & Kudus from Ajax for the same price we paid for Antony ffs.

This again. Ronaldo was binned because he isn't a PL player anymore. The drop was quite spectacular. Not a single CL or european team was willing to take him either and that should tell us enough.

The fact that we then offered ten hag Weghorst as an alternative isnt on ten hag It's on the team management. I seriously doubt that any competent manager would look at where he wants to be and and proceed to plug Weghorst the pressing machine in his starting 11.

Antony is shaping up to be a bad choice but our roster and our quality up front was championship level. And that includes cr7.

Very few European teams can afford a 500k a week salary.

It was a mistake to alienate Ronaldo. We would have been a better team last year with Ronaldo over Wout.

Ronaldo left before Weghorst arrived. He had to go after that interview. Also Ronaldo has playing shit he was clearly done at this level and was a toxic presence in the dressing room.

Letting him go was 100% the correct call, whether or not we actually fix our 9 problem is a whole other discussion.

I think the stand out bad signing Ten Hag/MU made is Antony: he is not performing well enough for the money spent. I’m not sure anymore whether he will come good, I don’t have that with the other signings.

A loan might be good for him, the way the team is performing at the moment does nothing for him and Pellistri does not play worse than him right now.

Antony is a worse transfer than Sanchez. At least if a player performs poorly I can usually get over it if the person himself displays some traits that are at least likeable. Like Wout and his maximum effort, pity for Sanchez and his injury problems, Di Marias wife for speaking truth about Britains god awful weather. Antony displays no character of a Manchester United player that is even remotely likeable. From his alleged off-pitch isses, to his game antics where he kicks after opposition players, sulks and looks angry for no reason. Its gotten to the point where after decades of supporting the club, he is the first player I genuinely do not want to start playing better, I just want him gone.

Yes I'm sure it was a pure coincidence that the front office landed on a player with the profile that ETH prefers in his signings: Dutch with Eredivisie experience

That’s a bit harsh: he works hard and has fighting spirit. He is just not effective up front at all.

Good
Martinez
Casemiro
Eriksen

Jury out
Onanna
Mount
Hojlund

Bad
Malacia
Weghorst
Antony

He needed a Right Back and Centre back in the summer. Should of gone for Kane and extended De Gea contract in the summer instead of paying big on Onanna or bought Coata from porto. Antony and Weghorst have been absolute flops. Paid too much for Mount. Hojlund will prove a good signing. He is 50/50 in the transfer market. But badly needs a director of football. Paul Mitchell if hired under Ineos could be uniteds best signing in years.
