Reserves vs Oldham | Lancashire Senior Cup semi-final

The last four are injured.Wilson,Pereira and Januzaj have no business with the Reserves aside from getting fit.

Not sure why you excluded Blackett....id say that all 3 have more business with reserves side then him.

I would be very surprised if Blackett is not sold in the next coming days.Might as well include McNair while we're at it.

Serious post now, does anyone know who is commentating on this game?

HT: 1-0

A bit unfair to Oldham that we have a senior player playing down in Axel Tuanzebe.

Cue in the Mitchell has an attitude problem like Januzaj and Pereira rumours after this Kenny sub!

Mitchell must have done a Zaha with Joyce's daughter :(

Goss should've gave that to Demi, captain's privilege and all that though

Oh dear Mitchell - if you try something like that, you better d... well hit the target. Glad I am not him when is talking to Joyce afterwards

Honestly had enough of Jose now. We've gone from the best team in Europe to 2nd rates in Manchester and Lancashire in just a few years.

People not happy with Mitchell's penalty on twitter..

Please be joking.
How so? McTominay looks like he is going to be our starting striker and he is nowhere near good enough. Sadiq has been a regular in pre-season and he is beyond rubbish. Weir was good last season and a pretty good player but as the star man in the front 3? Not a chance. I like Redmond but really he is just decent and I think Willock is a nice technical player but he is hardly great either. We still don't have a striker and we look set for another season of playing a number of defenders further up the field. We also lack any good wingers bar Demi who is playing up top anyway and even then hardly gets to play.

Gribbin, Demi, and Kehinde are all exciting but it doesn't even look like they will be getting to play that much. If the 3 of them are starting every match then by all means I'll be excited but it looks much more likely they will be sitting on the bench for shite like Sadiq and McTominay. I also don't see anyone there that will be able to carry the team like Adnan, Wilson, or Andreas in important moments. Gribbin has the potential but he even has a long way to go.

The fact that we're playing 433 is interesting. Doesn't the reserves usually replicate the formation of the 1st team? If so, could potentially mean we could be switching to 433 with the first team.

Same thoughts, but I think this was imposed by LVG.

If I remember correctly, they've been playing a 4231 formation this pre-season, up until this game obviously. So should be interesting regardless. Our midfielders are arguably better set for a 433 anyway, so we'll see. Especially if Pogba joins.

I'm pretty sure we will loan out Weir so Demi will come in the picture. There will be plenty of game times for Kehinde and Gribbin and even Dearnley when the injuries inevitably make its comeback (though I don't like Kehinde at wing or AM.Should play deeper).

You're drawing all these conclusions from very little evidence. You've seen enough U21 seasons to know the team never ends up much like you thought it would after a month or two. Key players suddenly advance to the first team. U18s step up and become unexpectedly important straight away. Players who everyone thought were space-fillers emerge as stars, and potential stars fade into the background. Signings are made out of nowhere. Sides that you thought would cruise all season go on horrible runs. Sides that were meant to be low on talent click, rack up a load of wins and goals, and all get hyped to hell.

Plus there's way too much first-team thinking going on there. Yes, el-Fitouri is crap, I can see that as clearly as anyone else. But this is just a 'development squad', to nick City's term. We don't need to have talented players spread across all the positions, we just need to have talented players. If we end up not having enough quality attackers, who cares, there's still an embarrassment of riches in defence like I haven't seen come through for years. El Fitouri isn't there to become a United player, he's there so we can put out 11 players regularly and thus continue the development of Williams, Riley, Tuanzebe, TFM, Goss etc.
