Reserves Vs Bury - 7pm KO

Tunnicliffe on for Corry Evans
Cofie on for Vermijl

We're a bit wasteful up front; struggling to get any shooting chances, but Bury are nicely closing us down.

Johnstone makes a good save.

Cofie, brilliantly worked goal!

Bury 1-4 United

Game over, great passing movement.

very good goal ..

 badge kissing in the reserves

good to see

isnt he the new keano according to tribalfootball

Full time - Bury 1-5 United

Good performance from a very young reserve side, and a couple of well taken goals (Tunnicliffe and Cofie in particular). Could and probably should have been about 8 goals given the way Bury were crowding our lot out. Credit to Bury who kept coming forward, but lacked the quality to make it count.

United vs Oldham in the next round, at home.

Our forth was a well worked goal, I thought we worked the ball very well on that right hand side, just kept passing and probing, kept possesion, kept composure and eventually found the pass to break Ajose free for the cut back, Cofie was never going to miss.

Eikrem class again, came deep quite often for the ball but had the skill and accuracy to pick out the wide men.

Aye, Eikrem has impressed on several occasions. He surely needs a chance for the first team.

Seems like he's ready now for the next step, a loan move. He's been doing very well this season, and improved massively. I remember a year ago, some said he's nothing special and needs to seriously bulk up. Made great progress!

He was quoted a week or so back saying that he is going to go on loan.

I have heard nothing since then to say whether this is happening or not though.

As mentioned elsewhere, I am disappointed that he is not looking likely to be involved vs Scunthorpe on Wednesday (though he could still make the bench).

He's still skinny and still wants too much time on the ball. I think he'd struggle badly if he was loaned out, he also still physically has a lot more growing to do yet, I reckon.

Yeah, Eikrem really has a touch of class about him but I don't think he's anywhere near ready to play for our first-team, even in the Carling Cup. Some lovely passing last night but also lost the ball in dangerous areas a bit too much for my liking. Still a work in progress.

We don't play a system that would suit him at this stage in his development though. He'd probably get bullied in a midfield two as badly as he got bullied by Arsenal and Villa for our reserves.

He could do a job as a play-maker, with two more robust midfielders behind him but we don't really set up that way.

I think he's ready and his vision and passing ability would stand out playing with better players and more intelligent movement.

I agree with that. I was watching him closely yesterday, off the ball his movement was spot on for the full 90 minutes, always making himself available, always looking up for options given his talent to pick a pass out. Over hit it a few times, but most of his longer passes were received by static players, at higher levels you have more movement, which it's clear he's on the lookout for. I hope he gets opportunities soon be it a loan or the CC.

I agree with all of this and he also has something which is very hard to find which is the eye for a killer pass to open up defences. His pass for Tunnicliffes goal was brilliant and it was also his through ball that put Ajose through for Cofies goal. He must have 4 or 5 assists already this season

What are we talking about when we say "ready" anyway?

Playing in the Carling Cup? Who would we play alongside him?

For Eikrem, in the first team environment, I think we would have to be playing a 3 man midfield to get the best out of him. In the CC (if he were to start tomorrow for example) I could only see that happening with Gibson and Anderson, and I don't know if that midfield would have the balance needed. Eikrem would, i think, work well in a midfield with Carrick and Fletcher or Fletcher and Anderson.

So was this Bury first team we played last nite or there reserves?

Eikrem?

He's never really stood out to me as being ready to step up. The only one at the moment who seems to stand out (aside from the obvious first team spares like Obertan, Bebe, Macheda, etc), is Morrison, and he's nowhere near ready for anything above reserve level.

Well, there's De Laet. Reserve football just looks too easy for him, but he doesn't seem to get the chance to go anywhere else. I feel for him a bit.

i think hes a bit insane for first team football. He may end being a stuntman rather than a footballer
