Reserves v Wigan (A)

It's a bit of a graveyard for fringe first team players here. Wigan are usually pretty committed and walk a fine line, Macheda was sent off for kicking out last year after a late challenge.

All they have done as soon as Stewart got the ball is hack at him. Then as soon as they feel a slight touch they are going over and the ref is buying it. Justified sending off, but the other player should have been sent off too, lloked like he raised his hand when he tackled De Laet 3 hours late.

I'll never understand the logic which says that, any incident, no matter how innocuous, that happens while the ball isn't in play, or that isn't deemed part of the "normal" action, is almost always deemed worthy of a red card, no matter how serious or dangerous it is.

And yet, you can kick people incessantly all game, and do all sorts of things which give the illusion that they are part of the action, when in fact they are designed to wind people up and even injure them, and that's perfectly fine.

British referee's are almost always lenient in those circumstances.

It doesn't make any sense in terms of which is more dangerous or likely to injure, and nor does it make sense in terms of which is more likely to discourage talent and ability, either, but there you go.

United are the better side, despite being down to 10 men. Brandy has been excellent and occupying 3/4 defenders on his own at times.

A flick from Possebon goes agonisingly wide of the upright.

Stewart booked for chopping down a Wigan player during a counterattack. Wigan playing with 10 men behind the ball and timewasting. Despite a man advantage. Pretty depressing if this is the way some clubs hope to develop talent.

Last chance probably gone, Stewart whips in a great cross that Ekagamene narrowly fails to get a head on, and Possebon at the far post fails to make a telling touch as the ball comes across the face of goal.

Where did Charni play and how did he do? How tall and physically developed is he? Did he seem quick? Does he like S Club 7?

Charni played on the left of a 3. Looked quick, good spring and tried to get involved. Also got booked for trying to block a throw in taken in the wrong place. Good innocent Heinze-face to try and make the ref be lenient.

He prefers the Jonas Brothers to S Club 7 apparently.

He looks like a big lad for someone who only turned 16 in february

I think the reserves play again on Thursday. Am hoping Keane the older gets a game.

Probably unlikely, I think all the key U18 players like Keane, Pogba, King etc will just be playing at that level in the next couple of weeks as they try to win the league - they play tomorrow, Saturday and then the following Tuesday.
