Reserves v Bury tonight

Men against boys? More like men against the glint in the milkmans eye...

It was so one sided it was embarassing. Some good performances and a great team effort but bury were never in it.

Very good performance, but Bury were woefully poor so not sure just how to rate our performance. Have to say, thought Federico Macheda was pretty awesome. Showed great strength, skill to beat a man, close control, creativity (with an assist and a few other lay-offs/passes) and ofcourse his finishing was very composed though he will probably feel aggrieved that he didn't complete his hattrick but to get into those positions consistently is promising in itself. I also remember him saying in an interview last season that he wants to improve on his heading because considering his height, he felt his aerial ability wasn't quite up to scratch and he didn't score enough goals with his head - now he has two headed goals in two games and both were impressively taken. Good to see a young player focus on areas of his game for improvement and then reap the rewards, looks even stronger too.

Cameron Stewart was electric, still some of his decision making was off but he has the ability - our midfield really emphasised the difference in class because players like Hewson, Norwood, Eikrem etc bossed the whole game.

Could have put me in goal and I'd have kept a clean sheet tonight. Would have fancied my chances of getting a goal as well.

Nice runout though, almost like another pre-season tuneup. Kiko, Eikrem and Stewart the standouts I thought, Hewson did well too.

My ratings would be:

Zieler - 6 - not involved at all

Dudgeon - 7 - decent - could have done more offensively

Cathcart - 7 - no problems at all

De Laet - 8 - some magnificent raids

Gray - 6 - anonymous

Evans - 7 - won the ball well - would have done more going forward

Hewson - 7 - some great runs - more anonymous later on

Eikrem - 8 - some superb passing - magnificent crosses

Norwood - 8 - excellent passing - created chances

Stewart - 9 - MOTM - involved in practically everything. Great crosses

Macheda - 8 - brilliant match but should have scored more

Thought Gray did alright really. As untroubled at the back as anyone and got forward well in the first half, better than Dudgeon on the other side (although he had a winger to work with, whereas Dudgeon didn't really).

Sounds like the United youth set-up really likes Joe Dudgeon. His progress has been pretty quick up to our reserves. Potential captain material based on official United descriptions from the website
