Remy Cabella

Purely from that youtube vid my impression was: less talented version of Nani.

Konoplyanka is worse. Cabella plays behind striker because Monpellier is an impotent team to be honest, they just don't have attacking players at all, he is not that suited to play in center, he is a rather direct player and very fast. He would pose much more threat as a winger with a good partners.

Aside from the fact he's not particularly fast and not a very 'direct' player. He will and always has played centrally, even if he starts wider he drifts inside, he's no winger in the slightest. He's not at all good enough for us.

Signs for Newcastle for a reported €10m confirmed.
That's a very good signing for Newcastle, he'll show his worth there and then move to Arsenal/PSG for double what was paid for him.

Oui club with a new addition. Heard Cabella is actually pretty good, though.

So far Cabella has been totally underwhelming for Newcastle. I honestly expected him to really hit the ground running and I've been surprised by how poor he has looked. It can't help with the absolute turmoil at Newcastle; not to mention the woeful 'style' of football under Pardew.

He looked a player of real quality at Montpellier but his best position is as a number 10. What way has he been used at Newcastle? From what I can tell, he has been shunted out left and doesn't seem to be playing through the middle. Surely he is a better number 10 than Gouffran and Sissoko.

Post directly above

He looked really sharp in the season opener, all nippy and full of ideas. Capable of creating things from wide even if he's not a typical winger, sort of like a poor man's Hazard.

Surprised to hear he's been struggling, though I haven't seen them apart from MOTD since. Might be more of a Newcastle thing. They're a mess.

Pardew has openly critised him saying he hasn't performed as expected. But yeah, the first game I saw him for Newcastle, he was out wide but looked very lively.

Maybe after he adapts and Newcastle come out of this slump, he will come good.

Watched him vs City in the first game of the season and he was fantastic, thought that Newcastle had a real player on their hands. Only other time I have seen him is last night and he went hiding but as you say it can't help playing for a club low on confidence.

Might just be me but I consider this guy to be a similar type of player, but not as good, as Ben Arfa..... Seems strange to not fancy Ben Arfa but to buy this guy. Have I got him right or am I missing something?

I see them as different players, personally. Ben Arfa is defensively shy whereas Cabella has no problem tracking back. The few times I saw him play for Montpellier, I always got the impression that he could be a box-to-box type player. He has a good engine and links up the midfield and the attack extremely well when he plays the number 10 role.

Ben Arfa is much more of a winger / wide forward. Cabella can play out wide as he has been doing but he is a far more natural number 10. Ben Arfa obviously has serious attitude and application problems which have always held him back from developing his natural talent.

I def agree with the attitude problems and the laziness but I also think Ben Arfa's best position is #10. Shame he has wasted his huge talent really.

I also think in Cabella's defence that Pardew does not know how to handle attacking flair players, He completely mismanages them to the point where they get fed up and the performances suffer (see Ben Arfa)

Anyone catch his game against Chelsea.. he looked sensational, was it just MOTD highlights making him look good?

He was good against them lot but he's been a bit shite this season overall.
