Removing support for Tapatalk

Sorry the decision has already been made, this thread is friendly FYI :)

It's not that graphics heavy surely? Your browser will cache the images after they first load anyway.

It is 2-3 times slower than tapatalk at the least, and tapatalk is also way more user friendly. Using a 1x connection and seeing the page loading symbol makes one appreciate the little things in life :)

Tapatalk has become buggy lately anyway, it's close to impossible to clear the cache on it and it was taking up 1.6 gig or something the other day, tweets don't show and you get redirected on any page with a tweet too.

Back to chrome/safari on the phone it is then.

Tapatalk was buggy anyway STOP And I never really got used to it STOP

Please no @Niall

The mobile version is graphics heavy and takes longer to load on the patchy 2g/1x ( :( ) mobile network at office. Tapatalk is text and loads much faster

I might be in the minority but I browse redcafe almost exclusively through tapatalk

If you cannot support future improvements at least keep it as it is?
This! I think this change means I will exclusively use the Caf on a pc now. As good as the mobile version is (works great under wi-fi), it is nowhere near fast enough under mobile network.

Recently started using Tapatalk when I got a phone capable of it, didn't realise there was a mobile version of the site though so it's no great loss. plus I'd rather be able to use the new features.

Does support have to be removed entirely? I use Tapatalk for the caf every day. I'm another who paid at some point, though that's not as big a deal. I've paid for plenty of apps I no longer use.

A responsive design for mobile browsers is great, but it's still much easier on Tapatalk. Buttons are sized appropriately for mobile.

I use both mobile and computers, but if there's no tapatalk support, I would only check the Caf from computers. The web version is not as good as tapatalk.

The latest tapatalk supports notifications and creating convos too

Could we not go the xda way where you can access the forum via a) computer b) mobile browser c) stock tapatalk which would have some limitations re forum specific features and d) xda premium (customized tapatalk created by xda with tapatalk, it supports xda specific features, and also it is a paid app on app store /Google play - so members buy the app to donate to the forum)

I know that the decision is already made but the trend all over is to move to mobile apps - many newspapers for eg the Telegraph have their mobile website plus an app, so this is just the opposite of that

An app designed from the ground up keeping mobile/tab in mind will obviously have much better usability than a mobile version port of a desktop website

Perhaps a stat check could determine how many users access the forum via tapatalk vs the mobile website

I know tapatalk integration also costs money so the idea of a redcafe premium app will offset those costs, and more

Just thinking aloud, do ignore if irrelevant

No more of that sent from my fancy tapatalk iphone shite on the end of posts so. Not to bad at all.

Nooooooo

Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S5 with Tapatalk signature disabled.

Is there any chance of changing the theme so that there's a dark one for night viewing like on Tapatalk?

In the next few days I'll be removing support for Tapatalk. The reasons for this are two-fold:

1) Support for Tapatalk was introduced to make-up for the lack of a mobile friendly design in earlier versions of XenForo. Now that XenForo supports a fully responsive design, the main reason for supporting Tapatalk is now gone.

2) A whole bunch of new Match Day features are being introduced in the coming months that are not supported by Tapatalk. I want all users to be able to see and interact with these features which means ensuring everyone is using the non-Tapatalk version of the site.

I know this decision may frustrate some of the regular Tapatalk users, but hopefully you understand the reasons for it.

Do XenForo do a mobile app or is it just the layout based on device via mobile web browser?

Might be something worth lookinh at

I bought tapatalk just for the website. Never used it though, ok, maybe I used it once. I only browse from my phone while on the bog.

Disappointing.....................

I cannot see myself looking up the web version of the site on my phone, maybe on my tab but not on my phone...

Is the decision final? Can we not find a compromise?

Even Captain Reynolds isn't going to change the decision, sorry.

The responsive web version works well, I use it every day, you'll get used to it.

There must be a way to make it semi-compatible with Tapatalk? Even if it means replacing it with a "This isn't compatible with Tapatalk, view this with Chrome/Firefox/whatever?"

If these new, shiny features are only being used for one forum, it's probably easier than throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

For example, the embedded Tweets don't work properly on Tapatalk for me, but it doesn't stop it from working for everything else.

There's a whole bunch of new features in the pipeline that simply won't work with Tapatalk. They're not hidden away in some forum but will be very prominent on the site. I want everybody using them and Tapatalk prevents that.

What's so bad about the responsive design? Everything works with that.

This is great news.

Sent from my homing pigeon using the promises of an extra large serving of corn upon return.

Understandable, but nowadays mobile platforms are just as important as the computer ones. Even free blog services offer a mobile variant, with select features. Even prominent sites like Guardian, Pornhub (lolzy) etc, offer a mobile variant with lesser bandwidth features that will not offer you a full functionality. We don't know what the additional features are, so I'm sure you have looked into it, but there are a lot of users who have limited bandwidth on their mobiles who'll be much more comfortable using tapatalk.

Let's hope tapatalk soon becomes compatible with the new set of features. I see why you have to do it and your decision is understandable, but unfortunately it's going to put away a few users, especially the ones who read redcafe on their commute.

Fair enough but the responsive version of the site should work just fine for everyone - I use it every day when I commute and it's perfectly fine. I don't see the point of a 'lesser functional' version for mobile. When I visit a site on my phone I want all the same features I get on my desktop.

The page load is not that heavy - HTML, CSS & Javascript are compressed in transit and what few graphical assets there are will be cached by your browser.

And Tapatalk will never be compatible with the new features, they're all bespoke.

Yep, Ultimately, it's the ease of use, and the bandwidth hog that will push the user to use either Tapatalk or the web version. If as you say, there's no usability issus or bandwidth hog, I don't see an issue. We'll only know if we try.

I use Tapatalk so this is a tad disappointing. I like how it's less graphically intensive than using the browser and the dark theme I can use on it.

For shame. :(

(you can actually turn off that sent from blabla shit. I often wonder why people don't do that.)
