Remembering Blade Runner

Very very good film. Probably one of the best sci-fi films out there in terms of meaning and insight.

It's similar in concept to Spielburg's AI: Artificial Intelligence, except more sinister, better acting, action scenes, and titties.

I must say, i've changed my opinion on the movie. Perhaps it was the fact that I was studying it relentless for months on end, but I've watched it again recently and really started to appreciate what the movie is. Roy Batty has to be one of the most brilliantly written and cast characters of all time.

Best science fiction ever made IMO. I love the original but the Final Cut on Blu Ray is the ultimate.

The Eric Cantona of movies. May not have been the greatest film of all time in terms of script, but was a game changer with unique qualities not seen before or since. Would recommend Future Noir (on the making of Blade Runner). It also finally puts the replicant debate to rest!

That's poetry right there. Rutger Hauer is magnificent as Roy.

By the way, he ad libbed "like tears in rain".

What a beautiful scene.

OK so you lot have convinced me to give it another try.
Which one do I watch Directors Cut or Final Cut or are they the same ?

Final Cut.

They are similar but not identical and in fact The Final Cut is in fact a director's cut unlike the directors cut, oddly enough. It hasxalso been digitally remastered. Watch in Blu Ray if possible.

I have 13 copies of this film. 14 if Jason still has my laser disk version.

Bollocks. It still looks great. You won't find many better looking films made in the last decade.

Exactly what I thought. The models used for that pyramid building and some of the cityscapes are fantastic. Still far superior to CGI.

Wonderful movie.

Not sure if I saw the point of the re-release with those few extra minutes. Also I didn't mind the voice over. Sort of reinforced the noir-ishness of it.

Thought I was the only person in the world who liked the voice over. Actually think that without it Ford's character is very hard to like and that it gives him a human quality. Although in light of the replicant debate maybe that's not a good thing.

Have to disagree there, don't see a point in a remake of this.
A Blade Runner without Ford and Hauer isn't Blade Runner.

Agree... and I am 100% sure the remake would have been shit. :nono:

The should do a film that does PKDs novel justice. The original Blade Runner failed miserably in that aspect.

One of my favourite films ever, hopefully will never be remade. Atmosphere is as good as perfect.

It's a bit like the Prestige in terms of managing to transport an excellent novel onto screen and make it completely separate, yet doing justice all the way.

Game was awesome, too.

Yeah it's definitely not for everyone. But the people who love it go kind of religious on it.

I had to study the bastard on 3 seperate school assignments within about 18 months of each other which didnt help, just found it very boring. Appreciated the story is in some ways brilliant but i just got quite bored by it all. Quite funny how sometmes exchange square gets A good blade runner effect off the echoing voices coming from the bbc screen, like those weird robot adverts that are in it.

One of my all-time favourites. Constant changes, and the eventual final cut have only made it better for me. Don't know which version I like the most, but the film is just a masterpiece for me, and the blu-ray is wow, just amazing. Probably the best one you can pick up right all in all.

If you have absolutely nothing else to do, Google "Syd Mead" for the gentleman who designed the look of the film.

That's brilliant. It's pretty telling that the only person who seems to get on with Ridley Scott is Russell Crowe.

Hey. Pretty much everything in modern life that's useful and not funny, we perfectionists gave you out of our Promethean hubris. Toothbrushes. Tank warfare. Mozart.

Shallow emotional response. Replicant. You dream about echoey voices, don't you. You know how I knew that? Implanted memories. Replicant.
