Low is faultless
I know the Berlin trilogy is highly venerated, but I'm not too much of a fan of the experimental stuff on Low and Heroes, and Lodger isn't that strong overall for me. I wouldn't have them in any top lists myself.

  1. Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld - The Orb
  2. Experience - Prodigy
  3. Ex:el - 808 State
  4. White Room - KLF
  5. Don't Sweat the Technique - Erik B and Rakim

What's so funny?

I mean obviously I think the 90s are the decade of electronica (although the respondents here seem very guitar focused) but even outside electronica, you had so many iconic hip hop and rock genre albums (alt rock, grunge, heavy metal etc) that to pick a boy band as your #1 whose primary appeal when they came out was teenybopper girls is one of the last albums of the 90s I'd expect to see top someone's list here.

I loved it! I have no defence for it. I just enjoyed it a lot :)

  1. The Soft Bulletin - The Flaming Lips
  2. In the Aeroplane Over the Sea - Neutral Milk Hotel
  3. Portishead
  4. Moon Pix - Cat Power
  5. In Utero - Nirvana

1. Siamese Dream - Smashing Pumpkins
2. Superunknown - Soundgarden
3. The Bends - Radiohead
4. In Utero - Nirvana
5. (What's The Story) Morning Glory? - Oasis

Ahhhh, this was really, really, hard. I could easily write another top 5 list and then another that and they all would have been amazing albums. By far, my favourite era of music. I didn't even mention Daft Punk or Massive Attack or OutKast or tons of others.

Feck sake. What a challenge. What an era.

August and Everything After - Counting Crows
Out of Time - REM
Automatic for the People - REM
The Bends - Radiohead
Blue Lines - Massive Attack

I know there are far more that I have forgotten but here are some honorable mentions.

I do not want what I haven't got - Sinead O'Connor

Jagged Little Pill - Alanis Morisette

Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magik
Pearl Jam - 10
Nirvana - Nevermind
Nirvana - In Utero

I know a lot of people think the 90s were a great decade in music, but I just don't see it. Maybe I talk to / read / hear from too many people that had their teens in the 90s, but so did I! I guess my taste just isn't mainstream, none of my picks made the 80s top 10 either. Anyway, in some sort of order:

1. Ice Cube - The Predator
2. Radiohead - OK computer
3. Sting - Soul cages
4. David Bowie - 1. Outside
5. Les Colocs - Les colocs

Let's also do some honorable mentions this time:
Offspring - Smash
Echolyn - Suffocating the Bloom
Public Enemy - Fear of a Black Planet
XTC - Nonsuch
Roger Waters - Amused to Death
Dire Straits - On Every Street
R.EM. - Out of Time
Depeche Mode - Violator
I was very far from a teen in the 90s and for me the 80's (the good bits rather than the very cheesy pop stuff) and the 90's are very hard to beat.

1. Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral
2. Radiohead - Ok Computer
3. REM - Automatic for the People
4. Rage Against the Machine - Rage Against the Machine
5. Air - Moon Safari

Number 1 being my all time favorite album.
@Dirty Schwein
Sorry, another change. That’s why I usually wait for the last second. But I promise that this is my last change.
Please exchange number 5 for:
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Henry‘s Dream

Thanks. Please change on the post, I usually start tallying Thursday.

I thought we'd see some diversity from the 90s onwards too, but I guess not.
Demographic of the forum probably trends towards older these days I think. Doubt we've got many in their early/mid 20s posting.

1. Nevermind - Nirvana
2. Parklife - Blur
3. Rage Against the Machine - Rage Against the Machine
4. The Fat of the Land - The Prodigy
5. OK Computer - Radiohead

Have there been any really good albums since the 90's. Individual songs maybe but albums?
American Idiot and Back in Black is about all I can think of.

1. Neutral Milk Hotel - Aeroplane Over the Sea
2. XTC - Apple Venus Volume 1
3. Radiohead - OK Computer
4. Oasis - What's The Story Morning Glory?
5. Portishead - Dummy

Kinda just threw in two albums which I kinda liked at the end there. I was surprised how few from the 90s I could think of.

I was quite surprised too. I had a couple more but was stretching after that.

I'm assuming the next two rounds will be most difficult for most as it's the years we've grown up in as actual adults. I've got a longlist of about 15 for 2000s and then about 30 for the 2010s onwards.

Just vote Hybrid Theory and we're cool.

2. The Chronic - Dr. Dre
3. Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) - The Wu-Tang Clan

That's exactly why I expected more diversity as well myself. With the more European and worldwide nature of the forum, I expected more electronica since the 90s was the original rave scene and 808 State is peak Manchester vibes. And I'd also call the 90s the best era of hip hop so while I see a few hip hop albums, I'm surprised not to see more. And we can always count on @Dirty Schwein for a complete surprise, I still can't get over Backstreet Boys

Neither can I. What a great band.

Not even close to my list.
You used to be cool.
