Music RedCafe's Favourite Albums Of All Time Contest (Round 3)

I wish the next round was 6 picks. Am really struggling to leave one out.

Best of the 80s definitely (beating Music for the masses) … a debate I’ve heard at concerts (incl with mates I go with)… 80s v 90s DM?

Its tough because I'm pretty sure you're talking about their 1990 album and that indeed is a worthy choice but I sort of see that as an 80s album even if its from 1990. Sort of like how I always see Nirvana-Bleach as a 90s album even if it was from 89.

Maybe @Dirty Schwein should do more rounds … “albums from the XXs that seem like they’re from the YYs”.

Give him something to do.

 I support this proposal. @Dirty Schwein get to work. Albums from a 9 or 0 year that seem like they are from the other decade.

I’m so old that the 90s I can only think of a few albums. Meanwhile I could pick 5 albums for each year in the 70s with no problems.

Nice. I’m saving myself for at least one (obvious) and maybe two DM albums in the 90s round.

That’s a very good shout. Relax got the headlines but Pleasuredome and Two Tribes better for me… a very good album

Did you know they’re releasing an album… mainly older stuff (from shows) but a few new songs too.

They released The Tipping Point last year and it is a really good album.
Quality band that have aged well.

1. SEPULTURA - Beneath the Remains
2. METALLICA - Ride the Lightning
3. SLAYER - Reign in Blood
4. MINOR THREAT - s/t
5. GALAXIE 500 - On Fire

Soul Mining - The The
Joshua Tree - U2
The Queen Is Dead - The Smiths
Penthouse and Pavement - Heaven 17
Rain Dogs - Tom Waits

How can I not find room for Diesel and Dust - Midnight Oil?

Are we on the 90s yet?

1. 24 Hour Revenge Therapy - Jawbreaker
2. Nevermind - Nirvana
3. Static Prevails - Jimmy Eat World
4. Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain - Pavement
5. Black Love - The Afghan Whigs

————

Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space - Spiritualized
OK Computer - Radiohead
(blue) - weezer
God Fodder - Ned’s Atomic Dustbin
Loveless - My Bloody Valentine
Different Class - Pulp
Grand Prix - Teenage Fanclub
Penthouse - Luna
Bone Machine - Tom Waits

It’s weird: there are albums that objectively are masterpieces from this decade, (like OK Computer), but I never listen to them. So I’m leaning more on favorite albums.
Chill your boots, Wingy, there'll be a new thread

A. There will be a new thread
B. It’s literally called ‘favourite albums’ my guy. Pick your faves.

1. The Queen is Dead (The Smiths)
2. Hatful of Hollow (The Smiths)
3. Meat is Murder (The Smiths)
4. The Smiths (The Smiths)
5. Hounds of Love (Kate Bush)

Sorry, and I would have supported a one album per artist rule, but it cannot be denied.

1. Thriller (Michael Jackson)
2. Daydream Nation (Sonic Youth)
3. Remain in Light (Talking Heads)
4. Hatful of Hollow (The Smiths) - it's the best one, sorry but no-one cares that it's technically a compilation
5. Psychocandy (The Jesus and Mary Chain)

Honourable mentions:
The Queen Is Dead
Doolittle
The Stone Roses
The Smiths
My Life in the Bush of Ghosts
Scary Monsters 'and Super Creeps'
Isn't Anything
Total support. You can disregard every song on it that was also on "The Smiths", and it's still a toss-up between that and The Queen is Dead for best album ever.

You're not "just some bloke" to me, friend. Love that list!

Yeah 90s will be the hardest for sure. I have no doubt none of my picks will progress knowing you lot.

This was really fecking hard, actually. I've changed my list about 7 or 8 times and I'm not sure if I'm happy with it or not.

My choices are:

1. Doolittle - The Pixies
2. The Number of the Beast - Iron Maiden
3. Master of Puppets - Metallica
4. Closer - Joy Division
5. Purple Rain - Prince

I could probably give you a completely different list if I had to do it again in 5 minutes.

1. Joy Division - Closer
2. Leonard Cohen - I‘m Your Man
3. Metallica - Master of Puppets
4. Prince - Sign o‘ the Times
5. Tracy Chapman - Tracy Chapman

Honorary mention to
Fehlfarben - Monarchie und Alltag (left out because it doesn’t have a chance anyway)
Peter Gabriel - Peter Gabriel
Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation

As a matter of interest, which one? There's four of them, and two of them were released within the right timeframe. :) They're all good, mind.

Oh, the third one. Should have added that. Wonderful album. Biko always gives me goosebumps.

Ditto for yours mate. Particularly happy to see Gang of Four there.

And very much agree with the sentiment that choosing just five albums from the eighties is a huge wrench. So many I would have liked to add - Japan, The The, Pixies, Joy Division, Tom Waits, Nick Cave, Simple Minds, And Also The Trees. To name just a few.

1. Paul Simon - Graceland
2. Stone Roses - Stone Roses
3. Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms
4. Talk Talk - Spirit of Eden
5. Guns n Roses - Appetite for Destruction
6. The Pogues - Rum, Sodomy and the Lash
7. The Waterboys - Fisherman's Blues
8. Talking Heads - Remain in Light
9
. Tracy Chapman - Tracy Chapman
10. Joy Division - Closer

I love that band. To my knowledge they've never played over here, so never got to see them. Could have put The Millpond Years on the list.
