This Morikawa kid is gonna be special
Thought it was real classy of Casey to stick around and offer his congratulations,There is no doubt he is special just wish it hadn't been at the expense of our own Paul Casey
Thought it was real classy of Casey to stick around and offer his congratulations,
First major of the year tees off tomorrow from Harding Park, San Francisco, a testing par-70 municipal course on the Pacific coastline. There’s few events previously hosted there to go from but it did hold WGCs in 2005 and 2015 (won by Woods and McIlroy respectively) and the Presidents Cup in 2009.
There’s indications that the fairways have been narrowed up to 60% of their usual width and the rough left very long, which should make a difficult test for the players and great viewing for fans.
Trying to reduce my shortlist at the moment but I have some combination of the following in mind: Schaufelle @ 16/1, Cantlay @ 22/1, Woods @ 30/1, Berger @ 33/1, Day @ 33/1 and Fleetwood @ 35/1.
What are your thoughts on what we have in store this week?
not been here much, been playing too much golf, how's everyones game coming on? had a hole in one a couple of weeks ago which is a nice monkey to get off my back
Nice! How long?
My golf game has came on quite a bit, from shooting mid 120's to low 110s regularly, and the odd sub 110.
That's progress for me, got my irons on fire the other day, altered grip slightly and they're going 20 yards further and way straighter now. However, that came at the expense of my driver, looks like I've never swung the thing before
Went round the front 9 in 50 (been 48 before too) and absolutely collapsed on the back 9, game deserted me completely, losing balls of the tee, in the water, the lot, scored a 67 on the back nine was raging. Blaming that on a long hot work day, then ridiculous hot weather around the course too.
DJ just holed a mental putt to take rahm to a playoff!
Rahm had the worst foul the other day too, picked his ball up and forgot to mark it so took a 1 stroke penalty or else he would have won outright. Poor bastard.
DJ has testicles the size of atlas stones though!
feck me! Rahm has just putted and even more mental one! Insane as feck! Class!!!!
This is insane
Not the toughest shot as there’s really only one way to play it, but amazing nonetheless. To have absolutely no spin on the shot but die it into the hole is something.
Brysons caddy has a piss easy job, just listen to him and say "yeah sounds good"
If he gets much bigger he won't even need a caddy. He'll just sling the bag on a ruckstrap and swing away.
What's the deal with wanting to basically Tigerproof Bryson.... is it simply because he won?
Because Rory bulked up and well added a few yards, and it did nothing for him in terms of Major wins. No one will ever control power with the poise like Tiger did essentially breaking the game, but theres always going to be different ways of playing and not everyone will come with the same power.
Just drop the course scorecards so you don't absolutely wild scorecards like DJ's the other week.
It's because with the power Bryson possesses he just skips half the course, that dogleg? Yeah it's a straight hole for Bryson over it. Those bunkers? Not even in play. The water hazard? What hazard.
Bunkers/water/doglegs were positioned to be a menace to the average drive, over the years the drives have got longer and those hazards are no longer in play for a lot of guys tbh, but Bryson is the example used as he repeatedly just breezes by them.
He does lack some aim and can miss fairways easily, but again, with his power, the rough doesn't even bother him either. He can usually make the green even from the rough.
Looks like they are finally cracking down on the equipment and going to make some rule changes. Right decision, saw it with the first hole at bethpage, 20 years ago you couldn’t cut over the trees, now half the tour can
This is what I don't get, why now? He's hardly outdriving others by massive amounts. And it's not power we haven't seen before, it's sustaining it with performances that matters and only really Tigers truly done that, so I got trying to rein him in, but however they limit it...surely it'll effect all, so the power advantage is still there?
Rory, DJ, Bubba and many others have shown you can't just run the show on power alone ... Rory was a better player with less power.
Bryson played a strong tournament all round - but obviously due to the work he put in, the driving the story.
Am I missing something? Dechambeau has just won his first major, something most probably expected sooner. It's not as if he's suddenly super dominant. We've seen much stronger runs in the last decade from Koepka, Spieth and McIlroy and in terms of PGA Tour play the likes of Justin Thomas and DJ are surely just as impressive.
Every time Dechambeau does well, this "professor" or "mad scientist" stuff gets brought up, as if he's somehow special. No, he's one of the top players but doesn't consistently outperform the others. He has his good runs and his bad runs, just like the other big names. He has his own methods and good luck to him, but this talk of him "breaking" golf is a bit silly. Maybe if he starts posting early 2000 Tiger numbers.
Am going for DJ..Nobody excited for the masters?
Everyone has Bryson winning it. I can see why, cooler weather will shorten players length, not a problem to him really. His distances wipe out the hazards anyway.
Not sure he wins it for me though, think his favourite tag will play on his mentality and he won't manage to get across the line.
I'm thinking about putting a bet on bubba, there'll Hatton, and maybe DJ too.
Am going for DJ..
