There is no doubt he is special just wish it hadn't been at the expense of our own Paul Casey

Yeah particularly when he probably just wanted to get out of there as quick as possible.
He couldn't have played much better,just needed a bit of luck and to avoid that bogey on the back nine.
Think that is probably the last chance of a major for another one of those talented British Ryder Cup golfers of the late 90s and early 00s.
They have all had opportunities over the years but just weren't quite able to find that bit extra on the Sunday required to get over the line.

My golf game has came on quite a bit, from shooting mid 120's to low 110s regularly, and the odd sub 110.
That's progress for me, got my irons on fire the other day, altered grip slightly and they're going 20 yards further and way straighter now. However, that came at the expense of my driver, looks like I've never swung the thing before
Went round the front 9 in 50 (been 48 before too) and absolutely collapsed on the back 9, game deserted me completely, losing balls of the tee, in the water, the lot, scored a 67 on the back nine

Try the Rick Sheils video's he's got great tips for starters on chipping and hitting driver, biggest thing I tell mates to do who are starting is to grip as lightly as possibly, you hit it straighter as your forearms aren't tense

Insane scoring today. A 59 (Scottie Sheffler) followed by a 60 (Dustin Johnson). DJ leads, Sheffler is two back tied for second. DJ could have easily shot 57 or 58; he squandered the chance for history by making seven pars on his back nine after birdieing his 10th. & 11th holes. The par for the course is 71 which cuts both ways, it is one less shot to break 60 but there is also one less par 5.
DJ won by 11 strokes with a score of -30. Apparently not a record though, bizarrely enough. He does have those freakish performances in him.

Rahm had the worst foul the other day too, picked his ball up and forgot to mark it so took a 1 stroke penalty or else he would have won outright. Poor bastard.

That was one of the best ends to a tournament I can remember. Just the two best players in the world going at his hammer and tongs, each just trying to outdo the other with the most ridiculous shots you could imagine.
Jon Rahm is my favourite golfer in a long while. You get the feeling he's always right on the very edge of losing control which makes the discipline he's shown in the last year or so all the more impressive.

Not the toughest shot as there’s really only one way to play it, but amazing nonetheless. To have absolutely no spin on the shot but die it into the hole is something.
Nah, my swing disagrees, about 50 ways to play that, none of them end up like that.

World class golf from the final pairing to both land eagles there on 9. Under such pressure and in these brutal scoring conditions that is superb from them both.

It's because with the power Bryson possesses he just skips half the course, that dogleg? Yeah it's a straight hole for Bryson over it. Those bunkers? Not even in play. The water hazard? What hazard.
Bunkers/water/doglegs were positioned to be a menace to the average drive, over the years the drives have got longer and those hazards are no longer in play for a lot of guys tbh, but Bryson is the example used as he repeatedly just breezes by them.
He does lack some aim and can miss fairways easily, but again, with his power, the rough doesn't even bother him either. He can usually make the green even from the rough.
This is what I don't get, why now? He's hardly outdriving others by massive amounts. And it's not power we haven't seen before, it's sustaining it with performances that matters and only really Tigers truly done that, so I got trying to rein him in, but however they limit it...surely it'll effect all, so the power advantage is still there?
Rory, DJ, Bubba and many others have shown you can't just run the show on power alone ... Rory was a better player with less power.
Bryson played a strong tournament all round - but obviously due to the work he put in, the driving the story.
Theyll have to rethink the tough fairways going forward. Its 100 percent the right strategy to have. If you cant hit them regularly then knock it down as far as you can. All the hook shots and finding specific areas on the fairway become lower percentage shots.

Think they see Bryson as a good fall guy to use as the guy who ruined golf, as he isn't a traditionalist really. Everyone else has stuck to the norm, played by the tour's rules and play how it's been played for years.
Bryson has come in and said "feckit, golf isn't about this feel and blah blah blah", he's very active in designing the equipment he uses, perfecting his methods, and finding anyway to "beat" a golf course. The other guys just play the course. Bryson is literally there to out play the course.
Yeah, all players want to win, Bryson just seems to take it to the next level. I'm all for him unleashing the kraken, smashing courses to pieces. The other guys could literally do the same if they put the effort in. It was always going to happen, he's just done it faster than expected. A static course is a set size, not easy to change. Athletes will always get better and better, 100m record gets broken, but they don't go and increase the race length so the time stays the same. They just accept the athletes have improved to that point.
Courses are just angry players are now beating them to death. Players now are superstars who this is full time for them, this is what they live, they're always going to beat courses up. Courses need to be judged on your average players who pay fees and memberships to keep them open, lengthening courses would kill the enjoyment for casual golfers, tour balls would be unfair for the current short hitters.
Like you said, power isn't a guaranteed win anyway, with power comes hooks and slices, just make the rough more punishing for the tour, something that can be repaired (cut down) when it re opens to public. Even have them tee off from somewhere further back (again short hitters are screwed but suppose that's their fault anyway)
Golf seems to want to keep everyone together, in terms of chances, but that's like adding weights to ronaldos boots, or making Messi wear clogs. They've put the effort in, their genetics may play a part, but that's how it works. Let the best be the best.

Also to add, just watched the opening of tigers new course, it looks like it's made for your average Joe's, not ridiculously hard.
See, I still see this as a small sample size for Bryson - that yes has fundamentality led to his finest major run.... but he's been to fifth before, so he has the game to be there clearly, he's tweaked his style to gain a gain he feels got and well it's justified.

Come back with it when there genuine proof power is braking the game, has Spieth tailed off because he lacks the power to compete with a now bulked up Bryson who hits about 2 yards further than DJ on average - no he's tailed off because what his strength was - has fell off. Power and greater athleticism might be braking the scoring, sure, but the games actually got a lot of competition right now... does the PGA just want a golden boy dominating? and even when they get that... it's the same issue anyway.

Am I missing something? Dechambeau has just won his first major, something most probably expected sooner. It's not as if he's suddenly super dominant. We've seen much stronger runs in the last decade from Koepka, Spieth and McIlroy and in terms of PGA Tour play the likes of Justin Thomas and DJ are surely just as impressive.

It's the potential since the bulk up that is making people sit up and pay attention. He had one top 15 and no other top 20's in his 14 majors pre lockdown, missing 6 cuts. Since the lockdown he's finished tied 4th and 1st. He's made massive adjustments to his game and come out able to beat the best, while still figuring it all out. He can hit the ball to places that very few others can. The No Laying Up guys released a tweet of lines he could take, with his length off the tee, around Augusta and if he does he could dismantle the course.
Look, it could all be a flash in the pan, but I think the concensus is that it's not. He was a fine golfer pre bulk and now he's able to hit the ball to places few others can. There's a danger he'll just overpower courses. I mean he did it at Winged Foot. No other players under par, while he was -5.
But I think part of the reason for the media fighback against him is because of how unlikeable he is. If Rory had come back after lockdown, 15kg heavier and hitting it an extra 30 yards, I think he'd be getting huge praise. So I do think that's a little unfair on Bryson. He's done something incredible at Winged Foot and I think he's not getting the credit he deserves.
I used to play quite a bit, off around 10-11, almost completely hamstrung by being a very poor chipper and average putter. Haven't played much the past 5-6 years as had babies etc. I've been playing a bit over the last few months and played with my Dad last Sunday morning. Somehow came to the 17th tee +4 gross thinking "hold it together". Finished birdie, birdie for a gross +2 73.
I'm pretty sure I can say I've played the best round of golf of my life and its all down hill from here.

Not sure he wins it for me though, think his favourite tag will play on his mentality and he won't manage to get across the line.
I'm thinking about putting a bet on bubba, there'll Hatton, and maybe DJ too.
