I was going to start a GOTY thread next week but have it so people just listed their top 10 rather than specific categories.

Aye I wasn't sure on the dates of some of those, though I did play them all in 2015 so stuck em in anyway, if its just 2015 games then I'll see which ones are older games and adjust my list. I know Super Meat Boy is quite old but was only released on PS4 this year. I'll Change Driveclub actually, Rocket League deserves another mention.

Most surprisingly good game - Rocket League EDIT: Mad Max actually. I expected it to be horseshit but what I've played so far is enjoyable.

I only wanted to know because I'd throw Binding of Isaac in. Rebirth released in November 2014 but the Afterbirth expansion (which is like a new game in itself) came out in October.

If we're going games from tail end of 2014 Isaac definitely wins my GOTY.

Absolutely, it has its flaws, especially in the first episode and a half but it's more than a sum of it's parts. I would say it is a not to be missed experience. It packs a real emotional punch, more than I thought a game ever could.

I put 200 hours+ in to Witcher 3 but my interest tailed off before I even finished the main story. I find Fallout 4 the better game, god knows why people are saying it's disappointing...it's fecking class.

I suppose if you like fantasy and magic you'd prefer the former, but if you're more sci-fi orientated, like myself, you'd prefer the latter.

Because it doesn't feel like a next gen game, it's essentially Fallout 3 with a slight facelift, a game released 7 years ago. And this is coming from someone who's also a Sci buff with little to no interest in fantasy.

It's much more impressive looking than FO3, some of the scenery and landscaping is as good as I've seen. That's irrelevant though, Fallout 3 with a facelift is still a mighty fine game.

Character of the Year - Kuro ? (the horrible nasty owl from ori and the blind forest)

Most surprisingly good game - Ori
Most disappointing game - Batman AK (didn't work for months and was just kind of meh when it did)
Most anticipated game for 2016 - XCOM 2 atm



Basically Ori is brilliant. Found most other releases this year pretty underwhelming (though i didn't play many new releases)

Perhaps, but I felt the step up wasn't a 7 year step up, it felt like a late Xbox 360/PS3 game. The combat still felt clunky, the bugs were still numerous, the side quests were pretty lame and you still had to load everytime you enter a building. Contrast that to the Witcher 3 which has created a bigger game world, with almost no loading screens, smooth gameplay and terrific writing. The gulf in quality is huge, even if the setting is not to your fancy.

Yes, Ori is absolutely fantastic. Visually mesmerising, brilliant OST and the game play itself is great. Each power adds a whole new dimension and each one as fun but tight as before. Best platformer in years.

the execution was top notch.
Im a bit of a sucker for metroidvania's but this was easily one of the best i've played since the genre's namesake were released.

I have not played a lot of games at all this year so I can't see myself filling a lot of these blank spaces. Not even sure if Mass Effect 4 is out next year so i'll probably have to change that one.

Glad others here agree with me :) The OST is one of the only video game soundtracks I'd potentially own if it weren't a video game soundtrack. Same with Transistor...

Rocket League is getting love from everywhere. The game has generated Psyonix around $50m in revenue, which is absolutely mindblowing for such a small team...

They deserve it all. All the praise, all the money, and all the women.
