Gaming RedCafe FIFA 11 PS3 League

I've added you, what time you wanna play?

I'm having trouble connecting my playstation to my modem, as I've reseted it. I'll try again but if I'm not on until 22:00 we'll have to leave it to another day.

Ronaldo No. 9 sorry about that waste of time, I don't know why I'm not able to connect to you. I just connected this today for the first time but it was doing ok in the afternoon. We'll try another day I guess, sorry about that.

Stranger yet I'm being able to play other random dudes.

No worries mate, it's strange because we connected on the first attempt and then nothing would work afterwards.

Hopefully it's not gonna be like that when the league starts.

I think we got 21 participants at the moment, they are listed in my first post so if you've subscribed but aren't there, just let me know as I may have missed someone. We got one newbie participating, he will be arranging his games via PMs.

Does anybody play manual? Much more better and realistic than default assisted controls.

The classic manual argument, I still don't get it... sure its fun, but I don't get the realistic part.

I already play fully manual football at least once a week. And in the game it can end up taking away from things a player can do in real life, like hitting a 60 yards pass to a player who's not even on the screen. I doubt I'd ever get that right in manual, but with assisted, I can see the guy on the radar and give it a try. If its Scholesy kicking it might hit the mark perfect, if its Rafael, well then...

I realize short passing is too easy as it is in assisted, but I don't think the way to fix it is by taking away a lot of capabilities that a real top player has, but someone controlling with a joystick and with a viewpoint a virtual 50 meters away doesn't have a chance.

I always say that NBA 2k is the best sports series around, year after year making the best simulation of a pro sport out there. And one thing they've done is make the game so that you sort of control player intent, not exactly what they do. So what your commands are really like "layup right", or "fadeaway shot left", and each player executes according to his ability and the situation.

22 players now. Will have to work out some way to create a fixture list, is there an app somewhere that does it?

Manual isn't the perfect balance, but it is definitely better than assisted in terms of online play, in my opinion anyway.

I disagree about the long passing. In fact, I find long range passing too easy on manual and assisted, a vividly accurate flick of the analogue stick and roughly enough power is usually enough to see the player get to the ball, especially with the robotic first touch every player has in the game.
What manual does do, is require you to think more. It's not just button bashing L1 and X in hope that one 2 will come off eventually, it does require more thought process and the satisfaction of a good piece of play or scoring a goal is greater than on assisted. I feel I've achieved something which is what it should be like. Whereas with assisted, the controls become very repetitive and most of the game becomes routine with a lack of new ideas.

Generally online it is a better gaming experience. You're playing people who are less concerned about their records and looking to enjoy the game.

I tried again playing esterday and I couldn't. Every time I accept (or invite) a friend to a game it just loads for a few seconds and then says the connection is lost. I usually (not always though) can start games with random people in the custom/quick match part.

Anyone use to have this type of problems and knows what fixed it? My internet seems perfect to every other use I give to it.

Awesome, I will be using that.

Well, I'm gonna try an put my PS3 into that DMZ mode or whatever those guys from google say. Hopefully it will work.

I am considering a new formula for this because it will be tough in a 24-team league to make it all click as everyone will have to play 46 games and it will go through during holidays as well so it will be hard to arrange all games. So I'm considering making leagues of maximum of 14 players, based on locations - 26 games should be much easier to go. There will be divisions - definitely a British one, possibly Scandinavian/Eastern Europe one, and the rest of the world if we get enough players. If not, then I will come up with a new solution, but 24-men leagues will be unbearable.

Top few teams from leagues will go into a new league at the end of season, much like Champions League, and there will be an equivalent of UEFA Cup and CWC because each league will have a cup. Those international competitions will be conducted at the same time as a new league season, we will basically be imitating real world here.

A league with so many players someone will always be at fault. The fixture least should just be a guide and people should play each other whenever they can, with some time limits for a certain number of fixtures, so someone doesn't go two weeks without playing. If someone stops showing they are just deleted and attributed defeats in every match, it's the only way you can keep a league table coherent imo.

A league with 10-14 players will be easily managed. I cannot make it so that everyone plays when they feel like it because you will get players with 20 games played when everyone else has between 10 and 12. I will allow playing games in advance but no one can be more than two gamea ahead of schedule, i.e. if it's 12th fixture day then you may have a maximum of 14 games played. There will be exceptions for people who go on holiday etc.

Fine by me, the longer it takes to kick off the better, I'm still trying to figure out how to make my connection work properly on FIFA. I can't get my gateway to put a DMZ on PS3 so I'll likely have to buy another router.

If we have 46 people, how about a Championship and Premier League division? Teams are determined by random selection. Of course some lucky person will get United/Chelsea and another will get Scunthorpe, but it'll mean not everyones expecting to win every game and it will show a players skill if say Birmingham came top 2.

Doesn't have to be PL and Championship, but any other division using every team?

If one of the classier chaps get a top team and I'm stuck with a shit team I'm going to quit after the first half as I'm on the wrong end of a 17-0 trouncing, NO FANKS.

Not unless we assign teams of a similar quality.

Nah, it will basically end up with inferior players beating good ones because they got Chelsea against Blackpool.

So far we got:

Australia (1) - United Fan 101
Brazil (1) - MarceloFalcon
USA (1) - BillyBlaggs
Portugal (1) - Arruda
Ireland (3) - Big-Red, Heffo, cina
Norway (1) - Eriku
Iceland (2) - arthurka, Snow

If you are unassigned, please post your location.

Vuc, BillyBlaggs, I know you want to play, please subscribe!

There will definitely be a British league. It remains to be seen if there will be one or two leagues apart from that, I would like to create two but I am not sure if we will get enough teams.

Well I've visited Hungary before, does that count? ;)

I thought you had Hungary in your location in the past, as I said must have mixed it up.

Theres a fair few good players who could join but havent yet come to this thread, ben_united, Red Pavan and DanNistelrooy to mention a few.

They got 8 days and plenty of empty spaces, hopefully they will come, and will be from outside the UK preferably. :wenger:

All from the UK as far as I know

Well, we will have to throw a couple of Brits into an international league if there are more than 16 I'm afraid. We will just put those who live closest to south border.

What does it matter being from the UK? Are you splitting UK / non UK leagues? We're all in or near the same time zone regardless, except for the 3 chaps from Brazil, Australia and USA.

Because then it would just be another cup competition like the one we are just closing and I want this one to be different. At the same time I didn't want to create one league and risk leaving people out of this because of too few places. I came up with location criteria because it was the only one that made sense - there will be a champion of UK, and one or two other champions. Ideally I would like a few more Scandinavians to join so we would have a Baltic or Eastern Europe division, there are 4 of us if we count Iceland in, will be 5 for Eastern Europe when vuc joins - just not enough. I will try to come up with some solution when the list closes because at the moment I have no idea what will go. Would be good if a few Americans joined as well.

I will have no problem with 10-men divisions as long as they make sense. At the minute it looks like one UK division and one rest of the world division, it's fine but I'm waiting for something better. There would be two title - an official RedCafe FIFA11 Champion of UK and an official non-British RedCafe FIFA11 Champion. If we could get enough players to form other division it would be.
