Can I tip Coulthard to be rubbish?

Yep this tip came off. He's doing amazing so far this season given the car he's in. He seems t have got qualifying sussed at last as well.

Coulthard is now the highest scoring Brit ever in F1 and the 5th highest scorer in the history of the sport, behind only Schumacher, Prost, Senna and Piquet. And he only needs a couple more points to pass Piquet.

What a travesty that is...you know that lot have 17 World Championships between them...until you get to DC, who has zero.

Not to mention the fact that there are now more races in a year and of course lots more points available at each race, and less cars chasing them... come to think of it do they add all the points earnt at races or just the points from each years championship standings? Just thinking back to the days of taking the best 11 from 16.

Yup, seemed an obvious choice given the teams dominance. I've never rated Fisichella so I'd gone with Alonso in Australia as well. My only doubt with him is his ability to look after his tyres. Once other teams are getting up to speed I think that will start to hurt him. It could well prove to be a very intriguing season.

I do rate Fischella, but a quick look at the times from Melbourne told me that Alonso was unlucky and generally quicker than Fisi....hence, I backed him for pole. Given how crap races are, I backed him for the win as well. Trulli came a bit out of the blue to be honest, but I had Raikkonen sufficiently backed in various catagories to get a few points. The only thing about Alonso and his tyres is that they are mostly all on very durable Michelins, and Malaysia certainly gave them some stick, so that may not be as much of a factor until Ferrari roll out the new beast, I'm sure Michelin don't mind which of their cars wins. I wouldn't dismiss Fischella.

Here's an interesting one I picked up regarding Coulthards points total.....he overtook Mansell there lately to become the highest scoring Brit in F1 history, but the points systems varied over the years. Using solely this years scoring system for all results, Mansell would tally 613, Coulthard 630 - still ahead there David. Using the pre-2003 system, Nige would score 501 v. 440 for DC, and using the pre'91 system (9 for a win)Nige gets 470 v. 427 for DC.

DC is only ahead using the current system, but lags behind using the others. I think this can be explained by the fact that the current system rewards consistancy more than the previous versions. For example, Nigel won 31 races, to DC's 13, yet DC has 47 other podium finishes and 49 other points finishes compared to Nigel's 28 non-winning podiums and 29 other points scoring finishes.

Bottom line, you can never make a meaningful comparison. Even if you did formulate some kind of hybrid points scoring system as a compromise, rewarding wins as equally as consistancy, people would always argue that Nigel regularly threw away points whilst chasing wins, which was more rewarded back then.

intersting point keane16. I knew that the new point set up had helped DC, but wasnt aware by how much. He has still done well however to score so many points. DC has done well and Britain should be proud of him. He's done miles more the Button ever has, yet for sum reason every1 seems to bum Button and hate DC,

Miley, I think the reason people in 'Britain' don't warm to Coultard as much as Button is the fact he's a Scot. I also happen to think he's an arrogant twat and his association with another, (JV), is further evidence of this.

My mother works for Hertz and she was telling me how an irate DC called up her office and was having a go at another lady about how his Merc had broken down somewhere in Ireland and giving it the ol' "do you know who I am". Sorry, anyone who can be as discourtious as that is a tw@ in my books.

Now, Damond Hill... he's a champion brit

:D

Great weekend for me, got Schumacher's position right for qualifying, Alonso partly right and top two right for the race. Correct number of finishers as well

Bizarrely, considering he hadn't done a tap all year, I put the house on Montoya, and ignored Ferrari. Montoya, Raikkonen, Alonso was how I predicted.......feck it, it was looking good for a while.

USA up next.
