They are for you to score bonus points:-

Quinella:
A quinella worth 15pts is awarded if you pick the first two finishers IN ANY ORDER.

Trifecta:
A trifecta worth 65pts is awarded if you pick the first three finishers IN CORRECT ORDER.

For each race, players choose to play either Quinella or Trifecta but not both.
