Poor Murali does get underrated a shade though maybe because of the lack of flash. I was at pains to point out in my game with Harooney that Warne supported by Clark, Vaas and Finn would struggle to take 20 quality wickets and not many believed me. Here crappy has supported Murali with a far superior pace attack in Walsh, Cairns and Alderman as well as a good quality keeper and people don't feel he'll take 20.

I think that's because I have Khan and Samaraweera who are two of the best in the world at playing spin.

Yeah I find the argument that Crappy won't take 20 wickets, a bit odd. He's got two of the best bowlers ever in the history of Cricket, FFS/

It is a stretch to start naming Samaweera as one of the best in playing Spin. Dearth of quality spinners about is well documented. What I wrote for Amla applies for Samaweera as well, he has not proven himself against the very top quality spinners. Not their fault that none are about but that's just how it is.

Yeap

Swap Murali with Warne and I am certain I would be leading this! In fact both of my two top bowlers suffer due to being non flashy. But that's just how it is. Majority rate Stetch's trio of pacers more and I doubt I would come back now.

Well I had Sehwag, Clarke and Aravinda. All top class players of spin.

It's perceptions though so there's no point fussing about it.

For example, Younis Khan hates Walsh's kind of bowler. He hasn't played Walsh himself but he was McGrath's bunny and Walsh is a similar kind of bowler.
Edit: it's worse than i remembered between Khan and McGrath. McGrath's dismissed him 5 times in 6 natches. Pathetic average of 6.2. So many of the 45+ averaging batsmen today get away with this. They would've found their true averages of 35-40 if they'd played 10-15 years ago.

I feel like i'm fighting crappy's corner here but I enjoy this kind of stuff.

Heh.. its ok.. I don't mind losing to Stretch, he has a good team. Only think that rankles me is the keeping issue. I was leaning towards him in the last round but voted for MJJ due to that. I do find it baffling that even now people think having a non specialist keeper in such a high quality test would be alright.

Unlike AB who I think is a good keeper in his own right, Dilshan isn't which is why I'll go with Crappy even though his attack is marginally inferior.

I respect that you think AB is a good keeper but as a South African, I can tell you now that AB was not rated that much as a keeper. In fact, AB's not even kept much at first class level either so to just say he's better based on 2 matches where he's had to bat minimally, to me, is not fair. AB's sample compares to Dilshan, and in the matches Dilshan kept, he actually took a few catches. Not sure how many he missed though to be fair but I've noted the keeping issue already. I just feel most of my chances will go to slip to the nature of Bishop and Steyn's bowling.

For example, let's say I somehow win this, do I choose Dravid/Murali or Parore? Will Parore give me 'better' balance? Even with little keeping experience, SA went with AB (though they could've called up a specialist vs the nr 1 side in the world away from home) who, like I've said, has not kept all that much for long periods and was certainly not rated as a 'good' keeper either, to ensure they had better 'balance'.

I know Dilshan as wk is a flaw, and something I'd love to address, but too many of you are 'over' playing it a tad me thinks, especially when some of you lot were ok with AB as wk for haroon and yet not seeing a big sample size of AB nor knowing why SA chose him as wk nor knowing if SA will persist with him at keeper.

Ah well...

I think its just that AB's kept relatively recently so people can mentally picture him crouching behind the stumps while it's been ages since we've seen Dilshan keep.

Perceptions. Either way, it's a considerable weakness.

It is weakness but just how considerable is debatable at best. Again, perception. I think some have 'over' stated it me thinks. And some of those that have overstated it have rated AB (who's not a specialist keeper) yet it's cost SA very little. With a bowling attack with Steyn, Morkel and Philander. I'm just saying.

AB is a better keeper than Dilshan in my view purely based on what I have seen on them behind the stumps. AB has enough to mask his weakness in my view while Dilshan doesn't.

8-7 here? or is our invisible friend aldo the 9th?

Has anyone even checked if he's real? It could be KM entering two teams for all we know.

He's real. He was in the newbs when I was there. KM really should get him promoted though.

I've had PM's from him so I suppose I could help testify to his existence.

It would really suck for KM to have entered 2 teams and position them both high in the drafting order only for both of them to be knocked out in the first round.

I'd delete the whole draft thread and tiptoe away quietly if I were in that position.

At least, if Aldo is KM by some off chance, he didn't affect the vote at all here since Aldo voted for me and KM for crappy...who knows, maybe it's part of the strategy? Someone, please check match threads to confirm this theory :wenger::angel:

i like both teams but Chris Cairns swings it for me. He is one of the most naturally talented cricketers there ever was.

Now, all somebody has to do is make a thread in the general asking for votes. That will end well..

For the other guy.

I can think of Zen and mightberight from the participants.

Not too many non-participants left who might be interested. Traub's voted a few times.
I have PMed Sultan and Amol to have a look at the teams and vote accordingly. Only 10 mins left so that's probably it.

Both matches decided by the newbie vote! And to think I PMed him to vote

One minute to go.

9-8 in both games so far. This is exciting edge of the seat stuff. Lets see if Dona and IL can live up to the billing.

Bad luck Crappy. Almost staged a last minute comeback.

Grats Stretch. Murali I suppose? Though Dravid must be fairly tempting as well.

Posting from phone. Crappy, thanks for a really good match. I will be honest, I thought I would probably lose this one before it started. Seriously tough one this.

I'm now left with the dilemma of Murali, Dravid or a 'proper' keeper; but Murali/Dravid to my lineup still trumps Parore as a wk...on the other hand, I lost 8 votes because of the wk issue. Have to think over this.

Yeah, I thought I would win as well but people have spoken.

I think you should forget about the keeper now, it is clear many are not bothered about it. Even if you do pick Praore, there is no way you will win against a semi finalist with him replacing Symonds.

Logic dictates you should replace Hearth with Murali but I think Murali is not a vote winner. Dravid may give you more votes I think.

Still trying to decide on this. Murali will make my bowling 2nd to none but Dravid will make my batting 2nd to none...decisions!
