Ok cool. Thanks.

This is such a tough match. To be honest, I could easily see this match's most likely result being a draw. In the long run I'd have to go for Stretch. Putting my vote in now.

Both lack the balance that should be the hallmark of a good test side. You NEED good opener, you NEED a good wicketkeeper, and the reason why Fanie, Lee and Bishop aren't sticking out, despite not being huge names in Test cricket is because they're atleast a balanced bowling unit.

fecking hell, I started this post with a definite vote, will have a rethink.

Sarwan, Ganguly and Hick aren't reliable enough players to have in a middle order, has to be said...I'm going to go with Stretch, but this was fecking close.

Yeah it is close as feck, Sarwan clearly never liked Australia, Ganguly neither(though I wouldn't call him a weak link really, just kinda needs bigger guys around him), Hick was well just a slightly better version of Ramps, supremely gifted but never translated it to Tests.

But still Steyn-Younis.......although as long as they got past that pairs opening overs, Amla and Khan could have a bit of fun. Plus his tail is FAR superior, all 4 of MJJs are more of less 11th batters really. Yeah Stretchs batting kinda outweighs MJJs pure WK and super opening attack and slightly better spinner.

Going with Stretch.

Having Dilshan as an WK is a howler. But that according to me is offset by his bowling depth and batting depth. I can see MJJ's side struggling if Harmison or Ajmal or both struggle. That offsets the Dilshan disadvantage.

So with Aldo's vote that makes it 13-6 to me. I'm going into meetings today and wont be around from now until the poll closes basically. Just hope I can hold onto some sort of a lead.

Hick was a very good batsman when he wanted to be one.
people used to score much less and slower in the 80s/90s

No-one arguing that he was. But like you said, when he wanted to be. And in the 80-90s, people used to still score 100s and consistent 40-50s. Hick just failed. Allan Lamb, Robin Smith are the kind of players you're actually referring to when you say great batsman, just not exceptional stats since they were a part of THAT era.

Looks like Stretch will win, wondering who he will pick. Gonna be Waqar since Styen is a no go due to him already having 3 South Africans. Or perhaps he should pick jacobs to get a wicketkeeper :p

He could easily drop a South African and take Steyn. Though Younis got picked earlier in the draft, I actually think Steyn's the better bowler. Good bowling figures today are worth the most they've ever been given the batsman friendly pitches, bouncer rules, protections and legside wide rules. Steyn's are exceptional in the circumstances.

I'll probably be busy over the next few days IL so I'll do my write-up now and inbox you? Than when you're ready post it up and we'll have a good 'ol match. :)

Shall we have ours next up then? I should be done within the hour, just have to pick up my older one from training and I'll be back. :)

Alright, awesome, just leaving now to get the older lad and I should be back quite soon. Let me finish the write up and I'll PM IL. :) Please note it's late here so I won't be able to field questions till the morning once the write up has gone up, but hopefully I adequately lay out my beliefs on the match to aid the voting process. :)

Agree.

Right, I'll be ready in 15-20 so if you want to post up the thread I can PM you very shortly with my write up, IL. :)

I'll take another hour I think. I'm trying to balance write ups and work :(

PM me anytime. I'll ensure I get this thread set up latest by another 2-3 hours.

Alright, I'll PM you shortly and head off to sleep. No taking advantage of your sneak preview and tailoring your write up to negate mine - impartiality must rule the day! :p ;)

So this one's done.

Commiserations MJJ. I think the actual matchup would've been a lot closer than the final score indicates.

Congratulations Stretch. Think you deserved to win on the whole. Who are you picking?

Younis at his absolute peak vs Steyn at his best .... I would pick the former every time.

Hi lads. I've been in meetings all day, only catching up now. Good match MJJ and I think the total vote count belies just how close this really was. I think what edged in my favour was a stronger overall batting line up. There are a few other teams that I think you'd have beaten, just was a tough draw this for both of us.

I am still considering who to choose. I need a keeper but not sure if Jacobs is worth it at all and then there's Waqar and Dale...

hick was very talented though, just not that good mentally

I choose to replace Fanie de Villiers with Dale Steyn.

I'm sure many of you thought I'd pick Waqar but Lee at his best gives me something 'similar' (obviously not the same) to what Waqar would have. Plus add to that that Waqar couldn't really bowl long spells whilst Dale is such a natural athlete capable of a long spell for a quick. Dale is also a slightly better with the bat, he can frustrate. Dale's stats have to be seen in context as well with all the batting friendly pitches in the world right now, he's got no business taking over 250 wickets at 23s and every 41 balls.

You see now, that's why I asked in the draft thread. No clear rules have been defined for picking this player. You can't do bench because it becomes silly with the national limit, at least that's my opinion.

It gives you greater flexibility towards the end when you meet strong opposition. Team selection will come into play.

Yes it does but then the silly national limit has to be increased. It has to be done like the knockout fantasy competitions are usually.

I think KM can take a call on that. Personally, I think you can take a 4th player of the same nationality but only 3 can play.
