Sometimes the old ones were about the story than the laughs (the gags were interspersed, but not critical) - thats what these ones seem to doing
Yeah, a couple of funny scenes. But they're clearly not in the real world. They keep mentioning seasons 9 & 10. Also have you noticed how the Cat keeps on leaving origami flowers(?) behind. At least I hope it's not real, because that would make no sense at all. Anyway, I still miss them all being on their own. That is the whole point of Red Dwarf.
Yeah, but they keep going on about what happened in seasons 9 and 10. But series 9 and 10 don't exist!
i loved the bit with the typewriter
that was a good last episode, felt like a real story for them.
still think it could have made a better two.
they seemed to find the rhythm come the end.
Exactly! Couldnt put it better but it felt like it was a story they would have had when Red Drawf was brilliant, one thing i still would have liked to hear was the laughter track because i feel that added to the comedy of the show - im not stupid and need that track so i know when to laugh but during the jokes without the track you feel a uneasy silence... Perhaps its just me

I can see why Norman Lovett didn't come back for these episodes as he would have been pretty redundant, which is a pity as Holly has always had some of the best lines.
Overall I think the 3 episodes were pretty good, the third was head and shoulders the best episode but all 3 were missing the claustraphobic tension that made the early series so great. I'm not sure what the ratings were like but the fact that the cast and crew were still up for making new Dwarfs so long after the last episodes would imply they will be pushing to make more, which wouldn't be a bad thing at all if they can get to the episode 3 quality.
Oh and Kochanski was still smoking hot![]()
Which was probably the main reason why the last couple of series were so poor. As for the ratings, apparently the first episode was watching by 2,000,000 viewers. So, there's clearly enough interest. Shame that it's not on Beeb 2, though. I'm sure they'd get higher ratings. But yeah, let's hope if a new series is made, they go back to the old claustraphobic tension. Red Dwarf is about the last human alive in the Universe.
2m is a very good number for cable tv isn't it? Apparently they dropped sharply down to about 1m for the 2nd episode though. It is a pity it wasn't on BBC2, not sure why it wasn't but I think advert breaks do nothing for comedy shows.
It was either because Dave owns the rights to play red drawf eps for a given amount of years or more likely they funded it
There was an snippet in the Times a few days ago before the new series. The cast were pretty scathing of the BBC, almost sealing the deal never to work for their sorry a**es again. Something about being undervalued even though they were pulling in 7million viewers on BBC2 alone - and still never being put on BBC1.
I enjoyed it alot, some pretty witty and clever scenes in there. Not to mention loved Craiqs line about going back to the Prairie![]()
I didn't get that praire bit (I know about Little House On the Praire, used to watch it as a kid). Maybe I missed the buildup to it due to my noisy kids. What was the jist?
Read somewhere that Rob Grant left Red Dwarf after the 6th series. Apparently, he was the creative one. . . so it shouldn't be surprising that 7 and 8 were so poor.
They should try to get him back.
I loved the original series. I have to say that this 3 part update was a bit disappointing. The acting and the gags were more or less up to the previous standard, but the plot...well, they admitted it was nicked from Blade Runner (in my view, second only to Perfect Storm as the worst ever film), and it was obviously referencing the despair squid, but there was also a Life on Mars element to it. Sadly, though, nothing really new, and nothing particularly Red Dwarfish about it. A disappointing lack of Holly too, and presumably we're supposed to have forgotten what happened at the end of the previous series. Worth watching but not perhaps as good as it should have been.

Confirmation of the great ratings for Dwarf this weekend, particularly funny to see that it beat BBC2's coverage of the golf on friday.
It was watchable but nothing special.
I recorded the horseman of the apocolypse episode (which I remembered as being one of my favourites) I will watch it tonight for a comparison.

Season 6 perhaps the finest of Red Drawf if you ask me, my fav was Emohawk: Polymorph II - such a brilliant ep
But back to the other posts i heard that the rumours of another series has been blown out, it was believed that they may make another series after the special but the actor who played Kyton said its unlikely but hes willing...
Emohawk was quality. I saw gunmen of the apocolypse and it was much better than the new episodes. Maybe they should just leave Red Dwarf alone now or end it with that movie that was rumoured for years but didn't get made. They could make it specifically for TV as I doubt the cinema audience is still there for it.
