red dwarf...

Sometimes the old ones were about the story than the laughs (the gags were interspersed, but not critical) - thats what these ones seem to doing

Yeah, a couple of funny scenes. But they're clearly not in the real world. They keep mentioning seasons 9 & 10. Also have you noticed how the Cat keeps on leaving origami flowers(?) behind. At least I hope it's not real, because that would make no sense at all. Anyway, I still miss them all being on their own. That is the whole point of Red Dwarf.

Yeah i was wondering what the Cat was doing with those. My guess is they met their creaters tomorrow and they get their season 10 - there were rumours that there was going to be another season of 6 eps after this special.

If thats true im with you and would like to see them back on the dwarf just the four of them pissing eachother off! And hopefully they dont make it to CGIy as i perferred the cheap sets but great laughs

Yeah, but they keep going on about what happened in seasons 9 and 10. But series 9 and 10 don't exist!

I assumed this special is after season 10, with series 9 and 10 (the 'rumour') to come later and it will while they are still on the drawf

I have to say apart from the first ep the others have been alright (and far better than season 7 and 8 imo), in all it was a good special but i wish the rumours are true about a new season...

that was a good last episode, felt like a real story for them.

still think it could have made a better two.

they seemed to find the rhythm come the end.

Exactly! Couldnt put it better but it felt like it was a story they would have had when Red Drawf was brilliant, one thing i still would have liked to hear was the laughter track because i feel that added to the comedy of the show - im not stupid and need that track so i know when to laugh but during the jokes without the track you feel a uneasy silence... Perhaps its just me

i agree, its annoying without it, cos you are expecting it to happen, and then it doesnt. even bits that arent as funny and you dont laugh at you expect a bit of laughter, in the first episode i found myself saying to myself "laughter track would have been there"

i loved the bit with the typewriter

They got the idea from Adaptation. Loved the Blade Runner parody, too. I knew it wasn't reality and that the origami pieces meant something. But yeah, overall, I enjoyed it and I hope there's more to come.

It was good, and built up over the three eps (the first one was a bit lame mind). I think it will likely lead to something else, which is good.

I can see why Norman Lovett didn't come back for these episodes as he would have been pretty redundant, which is a pity as Holly has always had some of the best lines.

Overall I think the 3 episodes were pretty good, the third was head and shoulders the best episode but all 3 were missing the claustraphobic tension that made the early series so great. I'm not sure what the ratings were like but the fact that the cast and crew were still up for making new Dwarfs so long after the last episodes would imply they will be pushing to make more, which wouldn't be a bad thing at all if they can get to the episode 3 quality.

Oh and Kochanski was still smoking hot

Which was probably the main reason why the last couple of series were so poor. As for the ratings, apparently the first episode was watching by 2,000,000 viewers. So, there's clearly enough interest. Shame that it's not on Beeb 2, though. I'm sure they'd get higher ratings. But yeah, let's hope if a new series is made, they go back to the old claustraphobic tension. Red Dwarf is about the last human alive in the Universe.

2m is a very good number for cable tv isn't it? Apparently they dropped sharply down to about 1m for the 2nd episode though. It is a pity it wasn't on BBC2, not sure why it wasn't but I think advert breaks do nothing for comedy shows.

It was either because Dave owns the rights to play red drawf eps for a given amount of years or more likely they funded it

There was an snippet in the Times a few days ago before the new series. The cast were pretty scathing of the BBC, almost sealing the deal never to work for their sorry a**es again. Something about being undervalued even though they were pulling in 7million viewers on BBC2 alone - and still never being put on BBC1.

The Red Dwarf team are back with a bang. Despite some negative comments here there were some really good gags in the first two episodes:

Russian hologram: "You will be decommissioned and your hard drive will be exploded in a nuclear fission"
Rimmer: "You really don't like me do you?"

and:

Cat: "I'm in trauma, I don't have another suit like this!"

I waited and watched them back to back. I thought it got better as it went along and in many ways echoed back to the original series. The Cat espically was back to his old feline ways which got brushed aside too much in later series.

I enjoyed it alot, some pretty witty and clever scenes in there. Not to mention loved Craiqs line about going back to the Prairie

Thought it was going to be shit, pleasantly surprised :)

I didn't get that praire bit (I know about Little House On the Praire, used to watch it as a kid). Maybe I missed the buildup to it due to my noisy kids. What was the jist?

ps. Yes I agree about the often underrated witty lines and the Cat getting his old character back. Very pleased with the new series so far.

I may be wrong but I think they were moaning about that before the last two series were made. I'm hoping the good ratings will change the BBC's mind but I would be happy for them to be on Dave as long as I was getting my Dwarf fix.

I pretty sure he said Priory which is an addiction clinic of some sort, with Craig Charles' very puplic drink and drug abuse problems it was playing on that.

Read somewhere that Rob Grant left Red Dwarf after the 6th series. Apparently, he was the creative one. . . so it shouldn't be surprising that 7 and 8 were so poor.

They should try to get him back.

Yup thats it in a nutshell!

comment from imdb.

Always makes me chuckle that place.

I loved the original series. I have to say that this 3 part update was a bit disappointing. The acting and the gags were more or less up to the previous standard, but the plot...well, they admitted it was nicked from Blade Runner (in my view, second only to Perfect Storm as the worst ever film), and it was obviously referencing the despair squid, but there was also a Life on Mars element to it. Sadly, though, nothing really new, and nothing particularly Red Dwarfish about it. A disappointing lack of Holly too, and presumably we're supposed to have forgotten what happened at the end of the previous series. Worth watching but not perhaps as good as it should have been.

Clearly a fan of movies.

Confirmation of the great ratings for Dwarf this weekend, particularly funny to see that it beat BBC2's coverage of the golf on friday.

I must admit, the signs are looking good for a new series.....i've been trudging around for some cast interviews and the general hope is that this leads to a new series.

The viewers were big aswell so its looking good.

I certainly enjoyed the special...started out slow but seemed to get better and better.

C'mon lads do a new series.....i've allmost worn out watching all the previous ones

It was watchable but nothing special.

I recorded the horseman of the apocolypse episode (which I remembered as being one of my favourites) I will watch it tonight for a comparison.

Season 6 perhaps the finest of Red Drawf if you ask me, my fav was Emohawk: Polymorph II - such a brilliant ep

But back to the other posts i heard that the rumours of another series has been blown out, it was believed that they may make another series after the special but the actor who played Kyton said its unlikely but hes willing...

He went off to write books. And he's done some good ones too. Colony was pretty much Red Dwarf in book form.

Emohawk was quality. I saw gunmen of the apocolypse and it was much better than the new episodes. Maybe they should just leave Red Dwarf alone now or end it with that movie that was rumoured for years but didn't get made. They could make it specifically for TV as I doubt the cinema audience is still there for it.

Very true, while i want to see more of it i dont want to get to the point when the new eps would ruin the image i have of the show.

I remember the part off the first Polymorph episode where Lister wakes up angry at the Polymorph and starts talking about how he's gonna rip out his windpipe, to which Rimmer tells Kryten to inject him.....

The look on Lister's face when he does it and then in the most insanely funny Scouse accent says "What's that PAL? You startin' trouble????"
