Red Cafe Fantasy Hockey

Well pre-season is upon, and Winnipeg had there Jets in town. They came they saw, they wore white again, but hell the Oilers weren't going to let that stop us..... A 5-0 result with a team of mainly rookies, is still a good win in anyone's books.

The Devils blanked the Bruins too 5-0, the Blue Jays also shut out there opponent with a 2-0 blanking of the Pred's.... Oh and the Flames won 3-1 against the Panthers.... So the pre-season table would have the Oilers on top of the West, with the Devils on top of the East.... Not that that can't be the picture at the end of the season perhaps....;)

Dubnyk is going to be a very good goalie for the Oilers. A western Canadian kid, playing for his favorite team is a good combination.

BTW, the Blue Jays play baseball in Toronto, the Blue Jackets beat the Preds last night. :D

I was going to put the BJ's or CBJ, but not knowing who is going read this I had J in my head. I shall of course have to punish myself for such a childish error. Hmmm, which of these are worse?

Cheering the Flames in a game?
Cheering for Liverpool in a game?
Cheering for the Glaizers?

Or does my simple error require a lesser punishment?

Cheering for the Scousers or the Glazers is way too severe a punishment. And, as an Oilers fan, being forced to cheer for the Flames would be cruel and unusual punishment!!! :D

OK, if those are too much, I've found the punishment suitable for the crime. I never saw the presentation of the Cup to the Hurricanes last season, it just hurt too much to see them lift the cup after being so close to it ourselves. The extra hurt was seeing Doug Weight lift it too.

I'll force myself into watching that, I think that's punishment enough!!

Back to this year and the second win in pre-season for the Oilers with a 2-1 win over the Panthers. Gilbert and Smyth with the goals, making it a perfect start for the Oil, and 0-2 start for the Panthers. It's early days yet, but hey a little bit of hope takes you a long way, and for every year since 93 that I've dreamed of another Oilers cup win, only to see us miss the play-off or hit Dallas, this is the first that I've got conviction in us being something more than just a first round loser.

That's fair!!:D :D

With the Oilers winning again last night, that sort of eased the pain of having to watch that cup get presented to the Hurricanes........

I know it's still pre-season, but it's BOA time tomorrow and the first time since we took over the mantle of Western Conference champions from the Flames. Should be a good match to watch, shame there's no tv coverage. I'd have been happy for the Oilers or the Flames to show the games online and pay for them. Still in a couple of years maybe.

Draft is this Sunday - be there if you can.

Yep, 3 and a bit hours to go.

The more that turn up the better.

feck, the timer just went to 0 and I thought the draft would have started. Thought Hans had counted the time zones wrongly and that it might have given an extra hour to pick the best players before the rest. But apperantely he got it right. Think I should be given first pick.

My draft countdown is still on.

01:42 now

Need some input on a roster issue - see the league site if you haven't responded already please.

You get points at the end of Sunday's games each week. Your points being the win-loss-tie record for that week in your head to head match up. The new match up starts each Monday and you begin earning points in the scoring categories for that weeks match up on that day.

fecking hell, Buffalo are taking the Flyers to the fecking cleaners.

6-0 entering the third period.

FFS, 9 goals and only one point for Drury.... :)

Ales Hemsky

What is your lots take on Hemsky?

McTavish had a go at him earlier this week and he got a goal against Columbus last night.

On a better team, would he be as highly touted?

Is he worth all the hype?

If Hemsky shot more at goal than passing to others he'd be one of the top players in the NHL today. I think a lot of Oiler fans are just curious why he doesn't shoot more, for when he does shoot he has a good shot either wrist or Slap shot.

It's also worth noting that so far this season the much touted Oiler offense that the club has been built up around hasn't clicked. It was hoped that the knock on effect of last seasons run at the cup was that the likes of Stoll, Pisani and co. would step up through the regular season. It's just not happened yet, but if and I say IF it does, then you may well see a different Hemsky in the team. He has been nominated as a possible All Star for this season, so perhaps others recognise the talent as well.

Anyone here interested in Ruslan Salei? :)

can not fecking believe I am not top of this with the team I have. Forsberg switching teams was a good thing though.

Btw. how does this work into play-off. You simply can´t use the players of team s which won´t reach the play-off?
