Soulfly? feck off.

Velvet Revolver are terrible, i have every confidence the album will be as shit as the last one.

For metal try these, the best metal releases of 2006:
Agalloch - Ashes Against The Grain
Jesu - Silver
Drudkh - Blood In Our Wells

Meshuggah

Million Dead

Mastodon

Neurosis ()

Isis

Also, bands I can't be arsed to, or just can't find videos from:

Pelican,
Dirty Three,
Opeth,
Red Sparowes,
Explosions In The Sky,
Clann Zu...

Soooo many more, but I bet I've already wasted my time doing these.

Listen to Spammy, especially Pelican and Million Dead. Also get some Earthtone9 as well

Nearco, aside from Dream Theater, any other prog. metal bands that you'd recommend? I tried Queensryche and found them to be decent

Progressive Metal is certainly a wide ranging genre, i`d recommend:

Isis
Neurosis - Not the early stuff, too hardcore.
Jesu
Katatonia
A Perfect Circle

Not metal, but i`d also recommend The Mars Volta from a Prog point of view.

If you like Neurosis, Pelican and Isis, then Red Sparowes will surely be favourable with you as well as it is members of Isis and Neurosis.

No, quite high-pitched. If i could do that Youtube link thingy i`d post one.

I`d always recommend starting with In/Casino/Out or Relationship of Command from At the Drive-in before tacking the Volta.
