Reality-Monopoly Draft

Indeed, the decline that happened at Liverpool by his departure is one of the steepest I've seen. They were a free flowing, swash buckling attacking team in the 08-09 season, demolishing top teams like Madrid in Europe and then obviously that afternoon at Old Trafford, etc. The next season they absolutely terrible to watch, finished 6th or 7th I think and simply lost the entire flow in their game, even though they still had both Gerrard and Torres who were the ones credited most for that great 08-09 season.

Shame, he can't hold a candle to Gareth effing Barry ofc.

 God bless Rafa Benitez.

Obviously he didn't manage to land Barry either and had to play a midfield of Lucas Leiva and Javier Mascherano for an entire season.
What's even more bizarre is the scousers swear by him despite this evident display of incompetence.

Yeah, I don't get that either, especially as most of the were very vocally against him when it hit rock bottom and he had to part ways with the club, but suddenly soon after that they were back calling him a great tactical genius and what not.

Barry is one of footballers that make me think "How the heck did he manage to do that? Wanted by Rafa, ended up purchased by City in one of the massive spending spree's seen in EPL, stuck there for an incredible 5 years before moving down to what he truly belonged. Talk about punching above your weight.

But then City's spree was the most incredible waste of money seen in EPL imo, Santa Cruz, Barry, Lescott, Adebayor, Tevez...

Tevez did well for them though.

Well, that's scousers - for one thing. They enjoy apotheosis. Especially when the revered subject is an insufferable wanker.

Then there's Istanbul, which is more understandable as a factor. We'd have a soft spot for anyone associated with that too.

And - which is very relevant - FSW actively reached out to them: He talked about his special relationship with the club, the city and the fans, seemed to "get" them (and maybe he actually did - no reason to doubt his sincerity in that regard, really).

And lastly - well, in the cold light of reason FSW isn't an incompetent manager. He has flaws, and big ones at that, but he actually isn't a bad manager in the grand scheme of things - compared to some of the other plonkers they've had in charge since their fall from grace he's actually pretty good. He'll forever be a clown to United fans because of certain things, but all in all his record stands up very well compared to most top level managers.

Any news from @Skizzo

Am I the only one who at this stage has a top 3 per box ready and typically only needs to know where he falls (bar corners)?

1. Excel with 500+ players
2. Go with hunch for pick 1 and 2
3. Settle on tactics to go for thereafter
4. Move 10 players to red status (top priorities) and 20 to yellow status (aka will do if top isn't on)
5. Run 10 red status players through all boxes (column each) so you map out where they can be picked
6. Check which boxes have no checks and identify yellow status player that works there, check it
7. Don't bother with boxes with no red or yellow checks unless you land there
8. Sit back and wait for your rolls
9. After R7 or so check the damage and whether yellows move to red or need new yellows
10. Worry about the last couple of rolls and having all injury angles covered

Excel with 500+ players
I use a licensed transactional system to implement the data model. Separate Objects to define players, countries, clubs, competitions, etc with all of them tagged to each other inside the records.

Can easily filter and create reports based on any criteria.

I'm a bit more rudimentary

Worse, I create a new tab for each draft so all the "learning" isn't registered properly, which is what tags probably do.

Wow. I search on google when I find out my box. For instance for rival arrival I first searched 'top 10 players who played for rivals' :p

I have a secretary who does all that work for me.

Sadly, she doesn't know anything about football - but she has a very pleasant personality, as such, so I can't bring myself to replacing her.

I guess you could, but building a side is different to getting an XI out of top hits on Google.

It's that PC lingo for great tits & ass?

Or do you basically have a useless minge as secretary?

Well, speaking to someone who gets aroused by tagline boobs, I think I can safely say you wouldn't be able to control yourself in her presence.

Disappointed by the philosophy box, by the way. I was thinking some grand gem or other had been left over there - like a Lahm or something.

Excellent options, mind - don't get me wrong. But still a bit disappointed.

@Edgar Allan Pillow I can pick someone who played for Holland (under LVG's initially inept and subsequently adept, but overrated, management)?

Of course you can.

And I want pics.

well, surely he doesnt just pick the best available from list....im also a google guy, cant bother with excel + would just remove the first part of the research and thats not good for someone who just plays because of drafting process.

My excel is literally a list of names by area of the pitch (GK, D, M, A) and roles. I put it together for my first draft (200+) and then added names as the themes expanded the scope.

It's an aid/memory jogger to the drafting process, not a replacement.

I felt the same when I landed on it last turn. At the beginning of the draft it would have been a great box to land on but this late on it was a bit meh.

Yes - depends on what you're after, of course.

But for me, provided I don't suffer a horrible loss on the last roll, it doesn't hold that much beyond very decent squad players (to put it like that).

Probably missed something obvious, though - usually the case.

That said, if you manage to get past the first hurdle, there will be injuries to deal with. So, decent squad players are not to be scoffed at.

I probably shouldn't be saying this but there are 4-5 top players you can choose from in this box. Pity none of them fit my system.

Last made a pick 2 days ago and doesn't look like I'll be picking today either!

Has there ever been a fast track draft? Where all players agree to be online in a certain time period and we do picks one after the other?
