FFS, you'd think I'd given the card to myself - and then started to moan about it.

And then moaned my way to a "overall victory" card.

What I've done is to do all of you miserable cnuts a considerable favour - you're all welcome, by the way.

I'm still not fully appreciating why the 'compromise' option was so heavily stacked in your favour. You know your own roll - great. However, if you have to announce the criteria before knowing everyone else's roll, and you're slap bang in the middle of the drafting order, then surely a previous manager could swoop in and get your gem first?

I wasn't having a go mate. Your card is a bit of a double-edged sword and I can appreciate it's a difficult decision. If you feel you can inprove your team while making it difficult for the rest of us, go for it. I'm prepared to pick a random Chinese player if I have to. He will either be a sub or if I'm very lucky someone who actually works well in my system. I don't think you're moaning at all; I was just summarising for RT.

The thing is if I drop Förster I complete the forward pair I would happily take to a final (Förster was picked in one of the 5-6% chance boxes!).

Hard to find someone at his level though at this stage :( Not keen on playing Popescu and Unpicked alone as I like the balance of that trio and how it unleashes Krol/Zanetti. I suppose it's a CB or LWB I need though as Krol could always play LCB if needs be, but I've got used to the idea of Krol-Zanetti now.

Say Chester knows his roll in advance. It's box 2 and he's after Paul Mcgrath. He limits the pool to whoever played for St Patrick's Athletic. He can easily check those before him and after him in the picking order in which boxes could land which would mean him getting a top class CB, whilst the other have to pick youth St Patrick's Athletic player or going to the default pool with St Patrick's Athletic limitation since there are feck all players who played in the three top leagues for St Patrick's Athletic.

The brutal part isn't even the sheep, it is having to trawl through every player in St Patrick's Athletic's history to prove there's no pool for your particular box. E.g. surely someone from there won a Second Division at some point, somewhere, go find him though.

Surely the manager would just say that they couldn't find anyone after a cursory or non-existent glance, and then transfer the onus to Edgar to find someone that fits the criteria or just give them the nod to pick from the default pool instead.

Nothing about the card has ever struck me as great, including the compromise version.

I did like the idea that someone could get Chester's guy first, that would be too funny.

As I said, the compromise should be you can rule out a club/nation/manager for an entire round. Likely to knock down a few decent options and no more than that. The simplest use would be "not Spanish" before a role were you can get that shitty non-Real/Barca Spanish box, which would let you go straight to the default pool.

That too. It becomes a huge hassle that provided it is in the weekend as well it will be hours of research (whoever bothers), then someone to validate, then someone to moan about the process and someone else to moan about stalling and you have a needless process overall that stalls the draft.

Zanetti/Krol is great. Unpicked, Popescu and another CB makes that central defence a glaring weakness tho. As you said it balances out with Forster in there and Popescu only sweeping and stepping up.

You could easily go 4-3-3 putting Lucho on the right wing, Futre left, Popescu DM and a back four with Forster/Unpicked and go for Popescu upgrade in midfield in the last rolls. Davids/another B2B or defensively solid midfielder would offer enough protection to the flanks to set Zanetti/Krol free when with the ball.

He probably was when I picked him - Carvajal, Chivadze, Walker, Viv Anderson and fecking Heinze were the previous gifts. In fact, you seem to be in the market for a right back. Helguera for Viv Anderson swap deal if you fancy it, and if @Edgar Allan Pillow approves?

Also, it seems to me you massively underrate Popescu. Mind you, same thing happened last time I picked him. Who is better in that role from the available pool?

Nah I rate him a lot actually but in an all time sense it seems a bit light to me. Personally I'd take an unpicked one who shares the same nationality if we're talking about sweeper/CB.

When do you consider Popescu's peak as a sweeper or CB? He's the better footballer, but in pure defensive sense I'd probably have the other geezer. Proven himself in different setups and teams as well, was preferred as a CB in the national team when Popescu was playing in midfield.

At 22 he was bossing a not so spectacular defence in a EC winning run.
