RAWK Goes Into Lockdown 24/25 Edition - Famous European nights at Anfield are like Quadruples, imaginary!

Which basically any fan of a top team would look at and agree that it's an extremely favourable run to the semis if you can avoid PSG. If any confidence was being shown after looking at that group of teams, I'd say it was warranted as long as we avoided PSG. Which we didn't.

PSG finished 15th in the league phase on goal difference; they were tied on points with four other teams, so could have finished in the "unseeded" part. They lost to Arsenal, Bayern and Atletico, and drew at home to PSV.

It was an extremely favourable run to the semis even with you facing PSG,and it's hilarious that you're arguing otherwise. Again, RAWK, reddit, twitter, wherever, were all full of Liverpool fans extremely excited at the draw you were given because PSG had basically been written off as a serious threat. The view was very much that the semi-final would be your first proper test, and even then there were a few giddy posts after you beat Madrid in the league phase.

It's also hilarious how much you live up to your tagline even when it's daft sections of your fanbase being laughed at.

What's hilarious is that you couldn't even get the basics of the draw right yet you were certain that Liverpool fans were drooling over it at some imaginary point. But have at it, it's the right thread for it I guess.

Only noticed/ read this morning that Dembele scored his pen with his wrong foot!

PSG rubbing their noses in it, and most probably didn’t notice.

I am certain about it because I remember reading all of the posts.

The only thing I got wrong was which draw it was after, which, funnily enough, doesn't actually undo all of the posts I read.

This thread is so disappointing since RAWK locked down. Defeats the purpose of the thread. Now people are being all serious discussing cup draws and the like :annoyed:
I try and post from official Liverpool Forums since RAWK lock down. But then there is a lot of discussion about stuff that should be in other threads.

Oh I’m not blaming you and i appreciate your efforts. I think others are forgetting what this thread is for

To be fair, I took the piss out of them and one of our resident (and more sensitive) scousers took offense at Liverpool fans having the piss taken out of them in a thread specifically for taking the piss out of Liverpool fans.

French speaking Liverpool pages are fine as well:

“Tomorrow, Paris will return to dreaming like every year.”

From official Liverpool Forums

The league is the bread and butter. The CL is the cherry on the cake. It's just that the cherry comes with glitz, glamour and a ton of money. It's a giant cherry.
Always been the league for me, everything else is a bonus.

I grew up when the European Cup literally was the bonus, you had to win the league to then win that, think that still stays with me.

I'll be far more invested in next years CL for sure, win it after being league champions will always be far more special.
I want to know why the offside wasn't confirmed on screen.

I'm clutching any straws despite knowing pens was just about right over the 2 legs.

Proper Michael Oliver ref as well,

Meh, win on Sunday and the league in April and that's football done this season until May 25th.
I work in the champions league head office and I have to say I’m delighted for some reason
Am totally gutted ...also that draw after topping the groups was a joke..

Is there separate coin tosses now for what end the pens are taken and who goes first? Cos we somehow ended up at anfield road end and going second.
I have a big question for our ground stand designers. In most grounds. The away team gets a space with a small frontage to the playing field. Sometimes our away support is put into the clouds where you need a binoculars and loudspeaker to make yourself heard. But for our visitors, they get more than half of the lower Anfield Road. And for the FA cup they get the whole lower tier. How does this allowed to happen????

I am not saying it doesn't add to the atmosphere, but where is the fairness and equality?
Do we really have Reds trying diminish the league this year like Arsenal twitter whoppers do, just because we lost last night?!

Wow. Are they forgetting we already beat the reigning English, Spanish and German champions this year? We’ve faced and beaten good teams this year. We lost, it happens.

And as for the league - if you want to play semantics, we criticise other leagues when they are closed shop leagues with only 1-2 top teams like France, Germany and even Spain at times. But we never did the same when it was only us and City fighting for the top 2? Why is that?

City didn’t win a poor league when injuries destroyed us and Arsenal bottled it. They just won the league.

The fact there are more teams from 4-10th able to take points off anyone is actually an illustration of how strong this league is. It’s not just about the top 4.
The fact that despite that that, we are still dominating shows this is a fantastic achievement - and in Slot’s first year is amazing. Any Red trying to downplay this need to look at themselves in the mirror FFS.
Another thing I've noticed about us is that we really lack that bit of ****housery and can be too nice. The amount of times PSG were attacking into space and one of our players had the chance to foul him and take a yellow to stop it but didn't was mad. Need Endo on for his customary yellow
Not you in particular. But it is always talk of quality when we win it?

We should not be playing to the opposition's tune. They are doing enough of that already.

When we didn't win it for decades then it is the league is hard and you need to be good to win. Now it is a easier league to win, they have injuries or they are in transition etc. etc.

We are lucky, right, let's be lucky again next season. We will not have any chance next season either!

Well, its not true. There is a blackout for games at 3pm. So there is no legal way of watching the games.

Soccer Saturday was only on for 3pm games not every football game.

Eh? I've watched hundreds of 3pm kick offs down the pub mate. I'm sure it wasn't legal satellite streams but it used to be widespread for many years. Might still be.

There is a difference, which you are ignoring.

1. watching 1 person on youtube narrate 1 game.
2. Watching Soccer Saturday when there is no live games and getting scores for 20+ games. 1 and 20 is a difference.

OK I respect you have a different opinion. But for me in both cases it is watching people watch football.

Anyway we're off topic.

"League is the bread and butter and Champions League is the cherry on top" they're about to eat bread and butter for only the 2nd time in 35 years and have had just as many cherries in that time. They haven't had the cherry on top of the bread and butter in the PL era.

Only noticed/ read this morning that Dembele scored his pen with his wrong foot!

PSG rubbing their noses in it, and most probably didn’t notice.

In an interview he said he’s not sure which is his weakest foot. He started the run to take the pen with the left foot but adjusted and took it with the right

Apparently a “random” draw gives Barcelona Benfica and us PSG. It should’ve been flipped based on UEFA ranking but UEFA want a Barca vs Madrid/PSG final.

This implies that PSG were drawn against a poor side. Their own arguments take the piss out of themselves.

They topped the league group phase and were handed the 15th placed team. What more did they want? Of course now they’ve been dumped out that 15th placed team is suddenly the best in the competition.

A lot of scousers seem to have forgotten the reward for finishing in the top 8 was literally missing a round of the knockouts, and their reward for finishing in the top 2 was being guaranteed that the 15th placed side would be the best they could face.

Last season Real Sociedad and Atletico Madrid won their groups and ended up with PSG and Inter respectively. The season before Bayern Munich and Real Madrid won their groups and ended up with PSG and Liverpool respectively. We won our group a few seasons ago and ended up with Atletico Madrid, and Real Madrid won theirs and got PSG, and Lille won theirs and got Chelsea.

I don't even think it's a good system they've got currently, but they're literally crying over the exact sort of thing that has happened loads of time over the years.

If it were me designing the knockouts, I'd bin the stupid bracket system they've got now and have 9th to 16th randomly drawn against 17th to 24th, then each of those ties randomly assigned as matches A-H for the play-offs. Then for the last 16, 1st to 8th are randomly drawn to face the winners of A-H, with the quarter-finals and semi-finals being completely unseeded.

There's a few of them on Twitter claiming PSG's goal was offside evrn though the Semi-Automated offside system showed it was onside.

Commentators were willing it to be offside as well.

First viewing of the video showed it clearly onside.

Just further to their bleating about the apparent unfair draw:

The rewards for finishing in the top two of the league phase are 1) completely bypassing the first knockout round and 2) having the 15th placed team as the best possible opponent they face in the last 16, and at the 7th placed team as the best possible opponent in the quarter-finals.

In the previous format, you could win your group with maximum points and a gigantic goal difference and end up facing the "9th" best placed team in the last 16 and the 2nd best team in the quarter-final.

If they want to go on about tough draws, maybe they should reflect on Real Madrid (at home) basically being the only team of note they had to face in the league phase, while PSG had Arsenal and Bayern Munich away and Atletico Madrid and Manchester City at home.
