Rasmus Hojlund (Out)

I would drive him to the airport myself if we get offered anything close to 30 million

I expect it'll need to be a loan the state he's in. I'm sure he'll do a Rashford and remember how to, yknow, run.

Was so hopeful for him to come back firing after the international break. Hes blown it at his childhood club. With all the chances in the world (more than he deserved).

I think there’s a player there but maybe it’s too late for him at Old Trafford. He might not be good enough but at least he tries and that’s all we can ask for

Every time he goes off we look 10+ better he’s absolutely crap

yeah i can definitely see him having a career. Forlan left Utd and moved mountains when he looked out of his depth with us.

But no matter what you do in your career, getting your dream move and it going so badly is just horrific. I do feel for him.

He has to be moved on in the summer, I’m sure he can go back to Serie A and get himself back on track. Of course the big issue is no one will pay enough for us to break even in PSR so he will have to be loaned out.

Worst striker since Dong Fanghzou.

Alan Smith was better than him.

We used to criticize Berbatov when he came, but just look at Hojlund.

We can't blame the coach, the tactics or the team mates when the player is that awful for 2 years.

He just gives you nothing, doesn't links anything. His runs seems good but it only seems.

I am done with him. There are at least 20 strikers/forward in the league better than him.

Someone posted yesterday on twitter that the summer with him, Onana and Mount was a disaster... that hurt so much

Alan Smith was miles better than him. Always be a cult hero of mine at Utd. The leg break was so cruel. Would love someone like him leading the line now. Had that sort of “ill go through you for a shortcut to get the ball” mentality that Bellamy/Deeney and those types of players had.

How much would we have to sell him for in order to break even with the financial rules?

Whatever the amount is (guessing somewhere between 35-45 million) no club in their right mind is going to pay it. I fear we're stuck with him.

Who the hell criticised Berbatov?

Who the hell criticised Berbatov?
There was plenty of criticism in his first season, because he played with a lack of intensity, and because he replaced Tevez in the side. The forward line became less dynamic as a result, and he only got 9 league goals that year.

Berbatov got plenty of criticism in real time. I even recall Stoichkov giving him public pep talks to perform at United

His languid style wasn't appreciated by many, it was brilliant when it came off but he often got "lazy" and such criticisms. It's easily forgotten now, but that's what happened then

Berbatov slowed down our attacks and really didn't seem to fit in with our front 3. We arguably a much better side before we signed him.

Should be the first out the door in the summer, we need a top class striker, we can't go into games with Rasmus up front.

He seems to want to show how strong he is wrestling defenders and not creating runs, comes to the ball and no matter where the ball goes in the box he's miles off it.

Who the hell criticised Berbatov?
Lots of people. While great fun to watch and sublimely talented, he didn't work that hard and wasn't enormously mobile. The team was worse than before.

Lost all faith on him, he's not going to improve anywhere close to being a top striker, sure he may end up being a decent one but that's not what we need and can't keep wasting minutes on him hoping he might eventually turn out decent.

Too many elemental flaws in his game that I don't think can be coached at this stage, just move him on. I don't think we can get any more than 20M but whatever, just don't waste anymore minutes on him. Let Chido get them or another youngster.

It was a bit of the farce how he struggled to hold up the ball and I’d brushed aside by their CBs, then Chido comes on and the CB can’t budge him. There’s got to be something inherently wrong with his technique or something when shielding the ball, because I’ve never seen a CF struggle so much.

The first time we seen him for United he came off the bench against Arsenal away and I remember him pushing Gabriel and I thought this kid must be strong.

I don't think I've ever seen any player use his body as poorly as Hojlund does.

I think he has some raw strength, but he really doesn’t use it well. He also seems to have poor balance sometimes.

These aren't even basics anymore, it's whatever the stuff before basics are

It was really odd to watch. Hojlund backs into the defender, knees bent to use his weight. But like you said I think this throws off his balance and when he’s leaning on the CB it just allows them to use his own weight to just nudge him to the side. Chido Obi received one pass at chest height and he just stood upright and barely budged when they were pushing him. And Chido, whilst tall, looks like there’s nothing to him.

I’m sure the coaches can figure it out but it’s odd how nobody has managed it yet. There’s CFs in the league far smaller than him who can shield a ball miles better than him.

A good loan abroad would make sense for everyone, we will get nothing for him now. Different league and change of scenery could be the difference. I don't see any way back for his United career unfortunately. He's had his chance, couldn't reach the level needed.

I see an article by Jamie Jackson I think saying we could sell for 30 million. Maybe we can offer him to Napoli as part of Osimhen deal.

Theres a good serie A mid table striker in there. We should ship him to Italy so he can finally blossom

To be fair, different position and I think Rasmus maybe older, but Dalot looked dead and buried here at one point, went on loan to Milan and it worked out well for him and us. Not that I'm his biggest fan (far from it etc) but its proof how it can work out sort of.

Its a funny one isn't it. I think its just one of those "levels" things. Where a bang average PL player can look absolutely quality in a slightly lower level because there is just something completely different about the two levels even though they don't look that different.

I think part of the issue is that hes a big lump and likes to tussle with defenders and refs see that and basically say "go for it" and ignore anything the defenders do. You either have to be able to overpower the defenders or buy free kicks when they are fouling you and he can seemingly do neither.

Its the same with small players. Some get outmuscled all the time and others have absolutely zero issue with it. Its all about technique, centre of gravity and knowing where to keep the ball to force someone to go through you to get it vs being able to get around you "legally".

£64m and only 2 years into his contract leaves a book value of £38.4m so don't see how he can be sold for £30m

The same way Ten Hag, Ashworth and others have left before their contracts were done. They were not up to it so axed. We cease to be an actual football side if we keep Hojlund this summer. The football team should come before the balance sheet, and he is an enormous detriment to the football team.

Damn, I was hoping to come in and check if the 64m potentially contained add-ons (not yet achieved) but it seems the 64m is the initial fee, excluding add-ons! yikes :nervous:
Unfortunately not, still baffles me how we paid that. Whether he had potential or not, there was no other suitors and plenty of strikers on the move, don't for the life of me understand that but we did at least pay better fee's for the players last year so I'm hoping we repeat that.

Agreed there but we haven't got past for doing it with playing staff, I do hope that changes.

There's still a good player in there. As Alan shearer said on MOTD2, his confidence is shot and he's just isn't ready to lead the line for a club of Utds stature.

You'd have to question why Benni McCarthy was let go when Amorim took over ( I hope I have that right). Who is coaching our strikers 1 on 1 and working with them?

I ask as Cristiano received a helluva lot of coaching from Fergie, Rene Mulensteinn and Mike Phelan in how to play as a striker.

I still think give him a season where he's not starting and learning from a top striker and he might improve significantly. Gyokeres would be a good model for him.

That said we need to loan out one of Obi or Hojlund for sure.

Aye, the sheer incompetence of Woody/Arnold & co never ceases to amaze me. Honestly. And Hojlund's transfer isn't even the worst of the lot. Antony. Mount to name a couple of others - where the economics just doesn't make any sense.

If I had displayed this sheer amount of incompetence in my job (just once! & not multiple times over!), I'd have been let go ages ago. If the company sued me for a breach of my fiduciary duty - they'd be reaching but blood hell, they'd have had a point even!

Instead, these buffoons walked away with millions.
