Rashford | Villa | Loan with option to buy

He obviously has been very good at Villa in the league and CL.

There’s nothing obvious about it. He’s a goalscorer. That’s his main value to any team. 2 in 14 in the PL/CL games (one of them a penalty) is not a good return. Including the 4 assists makes it look better but it’s still not “very good”. Even more so if you factor in his status/wages.

I didn’t watch every game but the ones I did he blew hot and cold, just like at United. Even the PSG game everyone is raving about had a superb 15-20 minutes mixed in with a lot of heavy touches and dribbling down blind alleys.

Agreed

14 games? A bit of stretch to say that.

Rashford over course of season has played 2440 mins equivalent of 27 games and has 11 goals 9 assists. 1 every 122 mins.

Yes. 14 games. He played in 14 PL/CL games for Aston Villa. He got 4 assists and scored 2 goals (one of them a penalty) He might have played more minutes (and who knows? maybe even scored more than one goal in open play?) if he was fitter and clearly better than the alternatives in his position, obviously. Just like he would have played more games at United if he didn’t go on the piss to Belfast, right before a game, or did what his manager wanted in training.

I would give up the hashtags if I was you. They’re a bit cringe.

We'll see how good Villa (or anyone else) think he's been when it comes to actually paying for him.

The way people try and twist things to make him look like a superstar is insane. He's a goalscorer with poor all round play and his best ever return is 17 league goals, averaging 9 a season. But people will argue that he's worth 300k a week, madness

The general consensus with the Villa fans is they rate him and think it's been a good loan spell.

Which by and large it has, he's looked a threat when on the pitch, offered more than what they had before and has scored and assisted.

The biggest issue is Villas financial situation, they are borderline when it comes to PSR, and feel like Watkins would need to go for Rashford to stay there, which given the infighting that appears to be happening at Villa could actually happen.

Also, several Villa players were at the boxing last night, it was pre arranged but Rashford is obviously the only one that people care about in order to set a narrative.

The reality is, both he and his mate Sancho will be back from their respective loans and will both need to find a new club this summer.

Rashford has far more credit in the bank with United fans than Sancho mind, and I do wish Marcus well and hope he gets his Barcelona move whereas Sancho I'm not arsed about at all.

I’m not Rashford fan, he needs to leave United. But saying 14 games is not being fair and using goals and assists as only metric as to how player has played isn’t either. Sometimes need a deep-dive to see exactly why player has played so poorly or so well.

A bit cringe, is a bit cringe

So - do you think Tuchel and Emery are just playing a player who isn’t doing very well?

Think it’s increasingly likely that Villa won’t make the move for him permanently, think his wages are going to be a stumbling block for most clubs.

Don’t think he will play for us again though, most likely another loan spell but I hope for everyone’s sake that a permanent sell can happen this summer window.

Of course it’s #fair to mention goals scored and games played. Players that play in Rashford’s position - with his reputation as a #goalscorer - will always be judged on #goals.

So - do you think Tuchel and Emery are just playing a player who isn’t doing very well?

I think Emery has often preferred other players who are on a fraction of Rashford’s salary ahead of him. And I think Tuchel has picked him on the basis of his reputation and a lot of pressure to play a player who the English media are convinced is playing a lot better than he actually is. Have England played any tough games anyway? Isn’t Tuchel just using these games to get a look at a load of different players?

It’s 2 goals in 14 appearances for Villa in the PL/CL. Which is not good, by any definition. Especially when you consider that they’ve been quite prolific, as a team, all season.
Have they? They very recently only just got into a positive GD if anything their lack of goals is what's troubled them.

I could argue that he have been slightly better at Aston Villa. However I agree with you about that he haven't done to much at Aston Villa to. Media have been putting some narrative that he suddenly have become great but watching games I got another opinion. Same as Sancho. When he left us on loan It was talk about how he became top player. Well, we know.

I can’t see them signing him without making Champions League, and they are underdogs for that now I think (they looked to be running a bit on fumes, especially without Rashford).

I would like the idea of exploring some sort of swap deal involving Watkins. If we could get him in, together with Delap, that would be ideal for our forward positions. I think Villa would be mad to sell him but there does seem to be some level of unrest around him.

As for Rashford, he’s clearly been impressive on loan but I don’t think he’s done enough to look like a “must have” for Barcelona etc. If it’s true that he doesn’t want a London move, and if Villa don’t move for him, it is hard to see where might meet his requirements and be prepared to pay the type of money needed.

Yeah and he also played Rashford over one of Villa's star players in Watkins in the CL. You can't use absolutes here.

Hope they can figure out the financing to buy him.

Could be a good deal for all parties - us, Villa and Rashford.

This place is the very last one would go for proper assessment of rashford's form. The spectrum opinion swings on is #wild.

I think he's done well. No more or less. If he weren't on massive wages, he'd be a solid and somewhat exciting signing for villa at 40m.

Not sure he's done enough to justify being the top earner.

You'd like to think Rashford gets that he's not worth his wages right now....

That’s that then! He’ll be clearing out his locker and saying his goodbyes

People keep talking about his massive wages, but didn't the lack of champions league salary cut reduce his salary by 20-25 % ? Taking the 300k down to 230 ish ? Thats a lot but not massive. Any confirmation of what is salary is right now ?

His villa game sample size is too small for any meaningful analysis. This is not good for him to find a new club.

I’d imagine he will just chill and take another loan next season if that’s the case. Won’t be any shortage of offers on that low risk basis.

Like clockwork, O'Hara mouthing off on talksport about rashford at the boxing.

Crickets for Declan rice though, and Ollie Watkins, who if I'm not mistaken, actually played on Sunday.

At this point he should pack up and leave the country because the media around him is a joke.

This is exactly what I expected. They'll have a fleeting interest, but only in getting him on loan with an option to buy or maybe an outright transfer but at a massively reduced fee with him either taking a huge pay cut or United subsidising his massively undeserved wage, and because he's got the Peter Pan syndrome he'll believe that he's amazing and should be a star for them and steer clear of every realistic opportunity.

This is what I want the club to nip in the bud from the start. Make it clear that he won't be going to Barca on loan or a much lower transfer cost, that he'll rather rot in the reserves than join them at the end of the window, whatever it takes to prevent this feckery.

Some disturbing news i came across, he was denied medical treatment at Carington. Amorim was not happy with him seeing him instead of Villa’s medical team. Moreover an unusually large amount of beer bottles found at Rashford’s house.

Anyone else came through these stories?
