Rashford | Villa | Loan with option to buy

Will be some very disappointed posters in here now. No doubt will try and hide their bitterness by pretending they will be happy if it adds value to his transfer
When was the last time he played well for Utd. I know you are Rashford fanboy and will keep defending him.

He was dropped for months so how could he play well?

Before that he was good against Everton on the 1st of December scoring 2 goals. He was then dropped and not seen again for United after the 12th of the same month

He also scored against Ipswich in the first minute and was terrible for the rest of that game. He’s been shit for 18 months. In his whole career with United he’s had one season that’s comparable with the best players in the league, and even that had a fair few goals in the Europa League. He’s a decent premier league player, he’ll always get 8-10 goals across 40 games a season but he will go missing when it matters. I hope he does well for Villa, I hope he moves and does well after he moves. But he is finished at United, it’s best for all he moves on.

Good to see him doing well, because I thought the praise in the last game was over the top because he did nothing, he was average as usual. Selling him for good money would be good, and it would be good for him if be finds his mojo back for his own good, altough I doubt he will ever return to his best because he is obviously not quick and good as he used to be, ignoring the mental part where he simply doesn't care about football as he used to.

Truly bizarre circumstance.

So are you blaming the manager for this?

Has the penny dropped?

Bloody good cameo from him to be fair. Two assists but some excellent passes going forward mixed it. Hopefully keeps it up and a chance to play well in the CL too.

The fact that some of you complain at Rashford playing bad even though he scores and assists and are happy seeing Höjlund running around for us

Yep. Look at our attacking options now. It’s not good…

You only have to look at the posts in this thread to see who the delusional posters are. Weeks of laughing at Villa for getting him - how he won’t try - laughing at commentators for hyping him when he’s not doing anything and he’s now matched Holjund’s output of goals and assists combined coming off the bench as a second half substitute today.

He’s played extremely well for Villa and he was our best attacker (bar Amad) this season when he was at the club. Truly bizarre circumstance.
Great post. He was one of two of our productive attackers before he was frozen out. Very very strange. Would love to know what happened.

Yep, plenty on here is very happy with Hojlund leading the line for us. Just go check his thread.

Anyway, on topic. Happy he’s doing well & keeps it up.

I think he’s always been capable of this as we know. It’s a bit early to judge how he’s doing there though as we saw with Sancho at Chelsea.

If he’s our best attacker but he’s being lazy in training or not tracking back then unfortunately that sets a shit example for the rest of the players and you can’t take passengers. If he suddenly starts doing that at Villa there’s nothing we can do, but I suspect he’ll revert to type like Sancho did.

Won't be unhappy if he tears it up there. Means we should get some decent cash he's not coming back into our team whatever happens it would seem.

It's a shame though and does seem to confirm the effort wasn't there for some time.

Anyway the club is always bigger than one player.

It's so weird to see people defending a player who blatantly refused to make any effort for the club you're meant to support. Who was constantly sulking around, going out with his mates, walking around the pitch looking completely disinterested and watching opposition players pass him with the ball. Who suddenly couldn't run past anyone and didn't know what a cross was if it wasn't on a big hold chain around his neck.

Worse still, he's finally been deservedly dropped, and instead of thinking about the club, could only think of himself. Immediately moaning in the press (again) about moving on elsewhere instead of putting in a shift in training. Then when he gets his move he's suddenly arsed again because he's no longer sitting comfortable on huge wages able to not be arsed. Suddenly he's playing for a move elsewhere. Selfish to the core and more than happy to leave United in the shit.

Cannot wait to see the back of him, and I do not wish him well.

Who's happy with Hojlund right now?

Bit of a fictional argument there.

He was dropped for months because of his awful form and lack of effort in training.
All of this was down to Rashford.

Exactly that.

We dont know how he trained. We know how Amorim felt he trained. We know Amorim felt he didnt change in the way he wanted. That doesnt mean it didnt happen, it means Amorim's feeling is it didnt happen.

Either way Emery is clearly happy to have him at least on the bench if not starting. We'll see how that goes and if he drops him because he doesnt press enough or something

Bang on.

Nobody to blame here but himself.

Has the penny dropped?

Maybe it did and Amorim still didnt like him. Alternatively he's still not doing what Amorim wanted him to do, but Emery doesn't care about if he's doing well going forward and he is.The problem is thats a personal thing and if we were winning all our matches you can afford to have those. But when a better team is doing a lot better and a player you didnt like because he wasnt doing what you personally want is doing well for them it doesnt look good. Theres more than 1 way to play football and not every attacking player needs to press - but those that dont need to find the right managers who still appreciate them and they need to deliver.

So for example Zirkzee doesnt track back and help win the ball. And he's playing back to back games. But Rashford doesnt and he was dropped from the team entirely.

If Rashford wasnt having any success I'm sure both managers would be upset, but while Emery would just want him to fix the success going forward Amorim, and plenty of posters would also want him to be good at running back and closing down as well on top of that.

Yeah he wasnt very good and the Everton game was more of a one off bright spot, same as Zirkzee finished a few chances to also get 2 goals.

However the problem is that our other options other than Amad - one player - werent doing better. Rashford was the one who copped a lot of blame, and its understandable because hes being paid so much but anyone who thought he couldnt get back into form and be a good player was silly. And frankly our standards our really low right now as the 15th placed team and his current form is well above them. Same with AWB and Sancho

They might not have been playing well enough to be the future pushing on from 8th last season, but they're doing better than our players who are at 15th

He wasn't dropped for performances though. Him and garnacho were both dropped for poor training. One worked hard and got back into the team,.the other said he wanted a new challenge.

A divorce was best for all parties, especially rashford.

But you also saw him on the pitch right? The manager said he wasn't training and living right and that's exactly how he looked on the pitch.

Some coincidence if you're saying he was training well and it was simply a case of Amorim having a false impression.

Amorim is the Head Coach so I am perfectly happy to take his word. Because that is all that counts.

He wasnt playing that well. He wasnt playing worse than all but one of our wide players and forwards though

What I'm saying is he may well have tracked back and pressed a bit more, but Amorim may have felt he still needed to do more or more likely had already made his mind up when he took him out of the squad. At that point no amount of pressing and running back, or behing devastating going forward would change his mind because hes made a decision. We dont know any of that. We know why Amorim initially gave up with him and from his comments that he wanted to see a change and thats assuming he's being open and honest about it. There could have been more and we'd never know

Is this some kind of riddle? so Rashford trained in the way Amorim wanted, he just didnt see it?

I understand, but you should probably consider how well hes doing as head coach. If you want to drop star players and get rid of them, your own performance needs to be spotless

I just said. Maybe he already made his mind up. Similar to his approach to the formation. He made his mind up that we play this formation regardless of results, perhaps he made the decision on Rashford regardless of his reaction to being asked to do more defensively.

ok well consider his best ever season was for ETH, he eventually gave up and dropped him this season aswell.

Yes that is very fair.
But this isn't about Amorim and how badly he is doing (very badly) but about Rashford and in particular how poorly he was playing.
Not just that, but about his bad attitude. Something that many fans were unhappy about.

But I really do wish him all the success at Villa and anywhere else. England could do with a top form Rashford.

I would be extremely demotivated too looking at the quality in the United dressing room. Doesn't excuse his horrible behaviour but I can certainly empathise. Anyway I wish him luck and hope we reach a win-win solution in the summer.

Do you think ETH's decisions especially in his final season were great?

I'm just saying Amorim is a human. He seems to be someone who makes decisions and backs himself on them regardless of whats going on, again like his formation. He sticks to it. Unfortunately if you are a player not doing what he personally wants to see that might mean he makes a decision and sticks with it. And that might not seem fair, or wrong, but he'll do what he believes in and that might work out well for him, or it might not. Right now we're doing badly so... It really looks bad and honestly doesnt look like changing this season. However something might click in the summer or at the start of next season when everyone is at 0 points and it might work then.

If I had to make a prediction that would be it, that we continue the same way for the entire season and then next season when its like a new start we'll do a bit better and be back up to around 8th.
