Rashford out partying at nightclub hours before reporting as too ill to attend training

If he lied as to his whereabouts on Thursday night, then that is really stupid. But I’m struggling to believe he is that stupid in this social media age when everything is filmed and he is wearing bright white/cream. He’s never given me any reason to doubt his professionalism til now. Would be really surprised if he’s literally thought “feck it. Another night in Belfast and a sickie in the morning.”

One thing is that Ten Hag has frequently conflated illness and injury by referring to players as “ill” as a catch-all for not fit to play. It’s already confused Malacia’s, Varane’s and Martial’s situations this season. If he is injured and not able to train regardless, that is a bit different, but still. We’ll see what happens.

He’s definitely got some explaining to do.

Disagree. Rashford is a good player. He has quality. He just isnt world class but he is good enough to be a Manchester United player. He just shouldnt be the star player or 'talisman' which he has been for Ole and was last season for ETH. He isnt good enough for that role.
Which is exactly why he should be sold. He's been built up into something he isn't and has all the ego to go with it.

It’s an unfair reality. If he was actually as good as we made out he was and was performing on the pitch week in week out we’d probably excuse it. But he’s not and thus is simply £300k p/w and £60-80m that the club can save and make.

Part of being an elite club is selling talented players who are either not good enough to contribute to you becoming the best or who lack the character to make themselves reach their potential.

You can go a club and not drink. You can go to a club and then get ill for another reason.

Knowing this is likely, especially when you have publicized priors, are having a bad season, and know there's a bug around, should you still go to the club consecutive nights before work when you're Marcus Rashford?

He may not be suffering a hangover, maybe he never even had a drink, that's not the concern. He just didn't think of the possible consequences and their optics especially at this point in time. Which seems to indicate that he isn't that bothered about the club's fortunes or his responsibility as the highest paid talisman and poster boy in improving them.

He's learned absolutely zero about them optics of playing for a club like this. Every single thing you do is scrutinised and he still constantly does shit that can be interpreted in multiple ways. It's either thick or he just doesn't give a shit.

Hoping Mainoo and Garnacho don't follow in the footsteps of their seniors in Lingard, Pogba, Greenwood, and this version of Rashford.
With any luck most of the corrupting influence left with Ed Woodward. Even pre-Ratcliffe there were signs that things were changing; just look how EtH has been backed over both Ronaldo and Sancho.

Pulling a sickie on the back of a late night out isn’t the wisest move in any profession, and definitely not in front of INEOS who will seemingly leave no stone unturned in correcting the mess that the Glazers have left us in.

Of course, but he could easily be getting ill from going out as well. It all just comes down to levels of professionalism and he just isn't elite and his talent currently isn't elite either. The only thing elite about at the moment is his PR machine and his salary.

This is from this morning. The Athletic article is from this evening and addresses the fact that the club tried to brush it off as him only being out on the Wednesday, and say they've been able to confirm that it was Thursday too.
Yeah, well. I think I'll still wait for the other side of the story before starting condemning him. If he actually went out and got pissed two days in a row, it's either: 1. Rashford is having a drinking problem. 2. Rashford is actively undermining the manager and the team. I find both kind of hard to believe. But we'll see what comes out of this.

Get rid if we possibly can. Average player, terrible attitude.

Who would take him on the insane wages we gave him after last years purple patch ? No, young Marcus is going to be with us for 4 more years.

Manager needs to wield the big stick and assert his authority here. Rashford can be an effective player, no doubt about that, but he needs to knuckle down.

Nice bunch we have here
Fans annoyed he was out the night before training that he subsequently missed through illness?

Was he planning to catch the first flight from Belfast to Manchester in the morning or was he never intending to go?

Is the "illness" even real?

We have a right to question it all at this point

Now I feel personally attacked

He's certainly no Paul Scholes off the field but I've seen worse. He's not a Pogba/Lingard.

Anybody still thinking this guy is anything but an egotistical toxic presence is absolutely mental. Get him out

Or some combination of the two.

If you’re in a nightclub in Belfast a few hours before you’re due at training in Manchester, you don’t get to claim the benefit of the doubt on being sick.
Surprised it tool someone so long to mention this. Was he ever planning on going to training?

It's concerning when the most generous explanation for Rashford in this situation is - he's just that thick.

What I don’t get is Whitwell is on the Talk of the Devils podcast every week talking about how Ten Hag’s use of the word “ill” or “illness” constantly confuses injuries and sickness, but that doesn’t seem to even being considered in the articles. It seems to be a given that this time ill meant ill.

His attitude has been appalling for a long, long time. This is just the icing on the cake. If INEOS are serious about getting us competing then Rashford needs to go, ego of Ronaldo with the talent of Obertan.

He arrived at training on time. Flight landed in Manchester before 8am. It is no distance at all and the airport is round the corner from Carrington. Quicker to get from Belfast to Carrington than from somewhere like Sheffield.

Antony hojlund garnacho as starting 3 from now, mount diallo reserve as rotation.

I'm so so done with these guys. Imagine thinking it's a good idea 10 days after Ratcliffe takes over trying to impress on fans that there are new standards

The crux here is that he’s out clubbing in Belfast the night before training, depending on a private jet to make it to Manchester in time for training. That’s bad enough. Alcohol consumption and cause of illness can only make it worse, not better.

Basically what needs to happen is to sell all the players who were at the club when Mourinho was fired (cant be too many remaining) bring back Mourinho, publically apologize and give him free reign to do anything.

There is zero chance of this happening but I am pretty certain it would solve the footballing problems within a year.

White text? Are you still in 2005? Mourinho is a horrible, toxic individual and just got sacked from Roma as part of his continued decline since Real. Imagine our manager waiting in the car park to abuse a referee - that is the level of class I want our club and manager to carry themselves with. Why does Mourinho have so many people across football still so enamoured with him when he is such a dour person nowadays.

He could take a dump on a few peoples front lawn and a few people on here would find an excuse for his behaviour

He was probably just fecking shattered then and not really "ill". Not that that is any better

My man Rashford, this is what I call a baller.

I mean what's not to like, pretend to be a professional player by being inconsistent all your playing life, find a sucker of a rich club to get paid loads of money when you have a short period of being in form, and then live your life not caring whilst still having quite a few fans suck you off regardless.

Footballers living the dream, Jlings will be proud brother

I don’t see how being in Belfast is really relevant as long as you have the means to make it to work on time in the morning. People do all sorts of crazy commutes, especially when they are wealthy enough to have drivers or first class travel available.

He could take a dump on a few peoples front lawn and a few people on here would find an excuse for his behaviour
And he could save your life and you'd still say that he did it lazily and he isn't fit to wear the shirt.

The frustration is that he is really talented unlike the likes of Sancho and Antony who are just nothing players and nowhere near the level required. Not talented enough to be the best attacker on an elite side but definitely good enough to be a starter.

The problem is he carries himself too often as if he is better than he is, he's only good enough if he applies himself and too often we've now seen dips in his level of effort on the field and these instances of unnecessary stupid shit off the field. It feels like it might be time for us to move on (if there's a buyer out there which is not guaranteed at all given his wages) as part of a focus to get all of the massive, over inflated contracts off our books, he's not delivering consistently enough to be worth it at this stage.

That’s the problem he’s always going to be considered as a player that this year he will turn into the star player we’ve been waiting for. He won’t and that’s why he needs to be got rid of .

Bring back Mourinho. That'll solve all of our problems

I dont think selling him is an option with his wages. I also dont think that not renewing his contract was an option either. I think the only option is to improve the team, hope Hojlund can become a star striker and a world class midfielder and right winger will improve the team enough so Rashford can be usefull but doesnt have to be the star.

I get the feeling there are some people that just don’t want to face the possibility that the local academy kid who is supposedly United through and through and a true professional, isn’t that.

If Ferguson was manager for this hypothetically, he would have got not so much a hairdrier but a paintstripper, and then be transfer listed.

Sounds exactly how he performs on the pitch.

He should be sold in the summer anyway. There's no argument going for him at this point. Either he isn't giving his all and can't be arsed, or he's actually giving his all, training well, and still terrible.

Didn’t this come out yesterday? And the club span it/clarified that it was in fact the day before?
