Glad he's back on some decent form too. It just would have been pointless to sell him when his stock had no value.

The problem is he's on 250k a week and if you just handed him a contract to get value it'll cost us at best 250k a week but probably 300k a week. This 15m a year for a player who's looked out of sorts for a long time.

If he didn't recover his form and couldn't get him sold because of his wages we'd have spent 75m over the 5 year contract. Surely that would have made less sense than selling him for 40m?

Remember we're talking about last summer before his upturn in form. We couldn't have known he'd hit the form he has.

But as I said on a previous post, the most sensible thing is what's happened. We neither gave a contract or sold him. We've activated his year extension and reviewing his performances and will now in all likelihood give him a contract which he is now earning

I think that's quite an objective post. Those are his best stats so far and if we did ever sign a winger that gets more then its a no brainer.

Unfortunately we've proven again we can't sign a top winger.

Still amazes me how people viewed Rashfords dip in form.

He was in very good form for most of 20/21, fell away in the last third but we know he was carrying a pretty debliatating injury an injury that required major surgery and a fairly long lay off to resolve.

Surgery that was delayed by his desire to play in what was essentially a home international tournament. Where his only contribution was to miss a penalty in the shoot out in the final. He then went ahead and had the major surgery and didn't return to play until October 2021 just as the wheels were coming off at the end of Ole's reign.

He got back toward full fitness while playing for one of the worst managers in the clubs history, playing in a united side playing some of the worst football iv seen from a united side in and out of the team playing in different posistions in different formations, playing in a team where noone played well, not one player came out of the rangnick reign with any real credit.

His '18 months of poor form is more like 6 months carrying an injury, 3 months where he was injured and 3 months where he was playing at an international tournament and the close season.

So really it was more like 6 months of poor form,. Playing in the worst, most toxic side of recent history under an awful manager while trying to come back from major surgery.

Absolutely right - some of the negative rhetoric about Rashford claiming he was poor for years is complete bollocks

He struggled for 6 months last season after major surgery but has been a vital player for the best part of 7 years - shame on all those who were willing to dump him so quickly

Same could be said about recency bias regarding his current form.

Good point but atleast after extending his deal by a year, as a club were now in a better place to decide whether to keep or sell in the summer.

Rashford is doing well under Ten Hag but for all we know Gakpo could've been his replacement. It's not as though Ten Hag isn't ruthless enough to make that call.

The club look like they let him down by allowing Gakpo to slip off to Anfield instead.

See who Ten Hag can conjure up for January/Summer.

Unfortunately I can see us cock up this Januaru window & not securing a striker to compete with Martial. We don't need Rashford leading the line as that goes a ways to limiting his attributes.

Maybe these people shouldn't have written him off after 1 bad season and the circumstances around it;

Coming off a long term injury and then surgery with no pre-season
Coming off being blamed for England's defeat in the Euro final
Being managed by a genuine PE teacher in Rangnick where no one thrived and Rashford himself barely even played

Ah but I guess your argument now is 1 season is more than enough time to write someone off

To be honest the season before last he wasn't exactly playing great either, his saving grace was the numbers but he had been playing pretty shit.

Love seeing Marcus happy and playing well again, long may it continue for a future MUFC legend.

He's been on very good form this season. Long may it continue.

I'm not surprised with the poll result what with the anti-English bias on here.

For me we have been in turmoil as a club since SAF left. As a result there have been calls for players to be sold and the next big thing be signed.

Now we seem to be working to a plan. I don't see us as serious challengers but can see improvements and am excited by what's happening.

Overall I don't think we have bad players. Just a lack of a plan and consistency. It's a team game and sometimes a low wage low price signing can be the difference to a team rather than a big name big signing.

For me the way we currently are playing Rashford fits right in. His pace on the break is key to some of what we are doing.

However that doesn't mean necessarily that Rashford is key going forward. It depends how we plan on setting up and playing. That doesn't mean he is a bad player or I dislike him. It's just how we fit him in.

At the time of the poll keeping him literally made zero football or business sense.

At the time there were obvious huge problems that made both football and business sense to resolve before concluding any one player was at fault. But some fans chose instead to blame players for 'not wanting it enough' and other ridiculous Roy Keane vintage banalities. A crap coach and a transfer policy run by a marketing spreadsheet were the problems if you had eyes to see it. 85% didn't.

Oh this thread gonna be golden either way.

On what people based their whole X player should get new bumped by X amount contract or not? Does current form counts all, or all body of work. Not saying its a same case with Rashford but i remember some special bunch being all giddy when Matic got his extension, how it makes case, how it was deserved or something due his form right before his contract expired.

Is there any info on those two options anyway, or just sell for w/e vs new contract on w/e.

I don't know why there is so much revisionism and people being shocked at the poll. This season he looks a lot better, but with what we received the past 2 seasons the poll is completely reasonable. And the same goes for Martial. Poll this season would be mixed or positive while a poll anytime last season would be near unanimous for him to be replaced.

I agree. The last striker we had with a real aerial presence was Zlatan. Still remember when he bodied Wes Morgan with a header.

Wonder what Van Nistelrooys value would be in today's market...

Ohsimen has to be the closest to a fast, mobile striker with an aerial ability. Vlahovic and Mitrovic are a level below because of their limited speed I feel.

Morata has the speed and aerial ability so that wouldn't be the worst player for us either. I did wish we had signed him that summer instead of Lukaku. That felt like both teams signed the wrong player at the time.

I really cant believe its just 15% of us wanting him to stay. We should buy a striker but why not have a few good attacking options and one of them full of pace, tricky, intelligent, team player and one of our own? Last season was a shambles for the whole squad not just him

Mate, never underestimate the ability of folks in this place to engage in a bit of moral one upmanship. It's absolutely rife! Let them have their little imaginary internet points I say, god knows they obviously need them the sad fecks.

This poll wouldn't exist if Rashford wasn't absolutely shite for fecking ages. Even when he was coming up with numbers his overall play was often absolutely atrocious. There's been a massive change under EtH though. Just to wind the feckers up some more I would perhaps even put down that change to 'bursting Rashy's bubble' in that loads of deficiencies in his game seem to be being ironed out like: giving the ball away all the time, taking pot shots from wherever and whenever, never finding team mates with simple passes, abysmal work effort, never challenging for headers etc etc. Player from this season is like a different one from the past, credit to the management and Rashford for turning it round.

Revisionism is par for the course round here, take it with a pinch of salt and just don't bite on any of the bait from the holier than thou bellends. Those feckers would still have Ole in charge if they could!

Still think he should have been sold if the PSG links were true, 15 decent/good games doesn’t erase 2 years of being dreadful,

there’s better out there, we won’t be winning the big prizes with him in the starting line up,

He was poor for 18 months and didn’t look arsed to boot. I am ecstatic he seems to have sorted himself out. But this is pure hindsight on your part as well as others in this thread.

Benched for disciplinary reasons. A few good games and it has gone to his head again. We need to be very careful before dishing out a long term contract.

No it was good judgement. He was poor because the club was poor. It's not hindsight if you say it at the time

Suprising given the image he has built for himself. Didn't have him down to be selfish and egotistical after a few good performances. Shame.

We don't know what he's done, no point in trying to guess. Could be as simple as missing a meeting or arriving late, we know how meticulous ETH is.

What a total knobhead getting himself dropped. Was spending 10 mins with Lingard enough to transport his head back to last season.

I can see through his image, I've heard enough about him to know he's a bit of a c*ck. People are trying to paint last 18 months as poor form, conveniently forgetting the shameless PR/Social Media which made him look a twat, trying to fight fans, not looking arsed untill he's ready for a contract renewal, flirting with PSG and Barca....I don't think I'll ever like him.

No-one even knows what the feck he was punished for, this place is so fecking unhinged sometimes. Some of you lot need to go outside.

That's such a lame excuse. Players are accountable for their own performances and attitude. Rash for rd deserved criticism at the time
